So many names, so little bandwith...to be honest the names in the People are only a PART of the list of players you have enquired about.

Best way to give you an update is by position.

MAIN STRIKER...Vucinic, Cardozo and Cisse all looked into in detail...all proving very expensive which is not a surprise...the big money will go on this position...you would take any of the three 'number nines'...it depends who blinks first...you could throw even more money at all three...or you could find one falls into your lap...it won't be quick...unless you are lucky...even bigger names were looked at and discarded...the amount of homework done on this position is large...there is another worldie striker who could be available for much less than people imagine...but that news has not filtered through yet...early days.

EXTRA STRIKER...Robbie Keane came out of nowhere last week, possibly in discussions on another topic...the fee is low, the wages are high, the main problem would be getting him to move north...but I quite like the chap and think he would be an excellent addition...will take a bit of doing...the possibility of being part of a Samba is intriguing.

YOUNG OR EMERGING STRIKER...Some very imaginative names there...Rondan, Leimao and others who have not meen mentioned so far...these targets are easier to land...but it depends on the cash spent elsewhere.

LEFT WINGER...Piatti is THE man...I know for a fact that this can be done...since doing the story I have established that the player would come here...his agent wants him to come here...Benfica and possibly Udinese in for him, Wigan were but no longer...for some reason Rovers have a figure in their head that is HIGHER than it would take...both the player, his agent and his club Almeria would do this...GET ON WITH IT!...Marin was a remarkable thought, no harm in checking, even if it is just to establish what world class players cost...the third choice is not so well known...and not so good.

MIDFIELD...Jones is still looking ok...a matter of keeping the price down and the wages real...there could be MORE in that area if you did get lucky and sell Andrews, Grella or Pedersen...this name is very sexy but there is an 'issue' with him...don't ask, don't press, I won't be saying yet.

RIGHT BACK...Anjukov IS the Russian right back...like every other move it is about getting the best price and sensible wages.

CENTRE HALF...the wait is for Miranda, but at least it will be a short wait...IF Samba goes then there would be ANOTHER and similarly-costly replacement...my info is that Arsenal will not pay the money for him that Rovers want...swaps are an option with both them and Spurs, but straight cash would be best...and lots of it.

That's not the end of it. There will be three or four young players recruited for underneath the squad. The Paraguayan lad is the first, more will follow.

This is, in a word, mental...

Keane? Good god SOMEONE stop barry white venky from playing recycled copies of FM...still on fence lots of smoke and noise about big signings and then it reverts back to crap.on the fence.

I believe us fans are the ones who are making a lot of noise about signings. The owners have been looking into some very good players coming to Rovers. If we get carried away with it then thats our fault. Until they arrive there isn't much point in getting too carried away.

Saw Piatti play a few times last season. Great player, one of the best players outside the top two teams in La Liga. Love to see him here.

I thought it might of been rick parry or stevie mcmanamman who as got great credibility in the football world. Didn't man city hire him a few seasons a go ad a sort of d o f

Sorry I can only remember nicko saying he was a scouser did he mention he was young scouser? Can't remember

Mike parry m8 he used to work for talksport until he opposed the hiring of keys and gray. He was a big evetonian

Woah!!! Just as second, let's just slow it down here a minute... Clearly it's this Bloch bloke from Everton as the new "DoF" we have since found out.... But did you really think it could be Mike Parry? Honestly?!

The "Scouser" was descibed as young and the chances are we'd never heard of him. We'd be better off with this chap than Mike Parry...

Anyway, nice wish list, keep it amongst ourselves.

So basically no left back signing and no ball playing midfielder?

Thanks Nicko for your Update. hopefully very good times ahead for Rovers and the fans!!! :D:D:D

when is the signing likely to be made? hopefully some time next week?

Maybe a swap deal with Spurs. we take Bassong and Keane plus a couple of million pounds for Samba? Good deal for Rovers :D

Exciting names mentioned in Nicko's article.

I've heard of most of them but haven't really seen them play regularly. Can anyone summarise each of the foreign players and let me, any others, know what they're all about? i.e. their best attributes and how they would improve our team.

I would check on YouTube but I think even YouTube could make Jason Roberts look like a £15m striker at times.

Oh and I don't want to seem picky but it's Steve Kean not Keane, just like it's Ryan Nelsen and not Nelson or Pedersen and not Pederson. It wouldn't annoy me if they were people who represented other teams but we should all know how to spell our own players names!

Thanks for the reminding me...I still don't know who the 'done deal' is yet...maybe it is one of the above...possibly not.

There are SO many names being worked on right now that it is hard to keep up.

Sounds exciting but totally unrealistic i reckon we will end up with 4 0r 5 unknown kids like Formica and Rochina and we will sell samba.

Hi Nicko,

It's interesting that we're looking at a left winger, especially considering we have Martin Olsson impressing on the left. Do you think the reason why we aren't looking for a left back is because they are looking at Olsson becoming our future left back and linking up with another skillfull, pacy winger?

Cheers Nicko, do you actually think we would bring in 3 strikers?

Bear in mind what you had last season and what you need...two the minimum, three better still.

I don't see Kalinic being around if you bring in who you want.

Roberts is Roberts, RSC has hopefully gone, Wham Bam Diouf likewise and obviously Benjani is not Premier League standard.

Cheers nicko for the update.

Exciting times ahead, can't wait to see what our starting line up come first game of the season. Lets just hope they can all bed together as a team and work. We don't want them to be able to play together as Christmas! We need then to be able to play together from day one seen as though we've got a rookie manager.

Definitely want a left winger who specialises in that role. If you had Hoilett on one wing and Piatti on another it would be something special.

Nicko any news on the surprise backteam SCOUSER that has been mentioned.

Laughatthedingles got it right...Anthony Bloch from Everton...new club secretary at the age of 27!

I have seen nothing of piatti but you guys all seem impressed. Interesting that we are looking at figures higher than it would take, seems odd. Would have thought the club would have established a price from the selling club and gone from there.

Loving the names being linked Nicko, just need kean to convince them of the clubs ambitions in the way that he's clearly been convinced.

I'm pleased we seem to want to play with Proper Wingers. Back to King Kenny days with 2 proper wingers!

That is very young to become the new Club Secretary but is he the right choice for the role? Must have a good CV tho.

Sounds like we are trying to copy Arsenal style of bringing in unkonown players and hopefully developing them into good players! I think this is the best way to built a club like rovers.

I also agree we need to bring in 7 very good players into the first team squad with 3 or 4 going out!

Piatti reminds me of Messi........but obviously not as good. Similar style of play, both small but strong on the ball considering their height. Excellent skills, got pace and good determination. Would be a brilliant signing, especially as he's performed well in Spain. It would have worried me a lot more if he came straight from South America into our league but he's got European experience and the fact that he's performed well for a struggling team suggests that he's a player who is willing to fight when the going gets tough.

Just spat my coffee all over the laptop at the sight of big suz!! Brilliant Banter!

Sounds like Piatti is a goer,as a first signing would be a belter, I have seen a fair bit of him, think Charlie Villeneuva but faster, much more skillful, better crossing, and a great finisher to boot. 10m would still be a cracking deal.
