Backroom Tom Posted June 26, 2011 Backroom Posted June 26, 2011 So in a dream scenario and Kean landed most of his targets do we think he would play 4-5-1 with Hoilett / Piatti and the main striker all joining the attack or a more traditional 4-4-2? I only ask because even if we landed the players mentioned we don't have the personell robust and creative enough to play 2 in CM. This Piatti sound good but I think I would personally prefer us to put some money into creative midfielder unless Formica or Rochina can step up into that role. Also if Olsson was pushed back into LB where does this leave Givet? Available? Nicko, is there any signs of anyone coming in for any of our fringe players? Realistically we should listen to any offers for: Grella Andrews Pedersen Dunn Emerton Kalinic Blackman and more maybe

AggyBlue Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I also agree we need to bring in 7 very good players into the first team squad with 3 or 4 going out! My worry is that if all are imports. A lot fail to adapt to the premier league. I'd like to see a few established Premier League players linked to us as well.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 IF we sign Piatti then I will just assume that Olsson, Givet would be our left backs and Olsson and Piatti would be our left wingers. When we need to rotate then we've always got quality players in our first team. I guess Givet would also be used a lot more at centre back, which I think is a good thing as I feel that's his best position.
47er Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Hi Nicko, It's interesting that we're looking at a left winger, especially considering we have Martin Olsson impressing on the left. Do you think the reason why we aren't looking for a left back is because they are looking at Olsson becoming our future left back and linking up with another skillfull, pacy winger? I hope this is not right but it seems to be if we are not looking for a left-back. Kean started all gung-ho till he realised we couldn't score more than we let in! We improved after he made us harder to beat. "Build from the back' is still good practice.
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Although the players linked with us are all exciting, what stands out most for me is the way Kean and co. are looking at improving how we play and turn us into a more exciting side by focusing on fast, explosive players. Bye bye long ball direct football! Like Blackpool, West Ham, West Brom of 08/09, Owen Coyle's Burnley and Bolton (who had an amazing season yet finished how many points above us after our awful season?)etc? I beleive our Recipe for success HAS to include some elements of direct/percentage driven tactics. Unless we can find Xavi, Iniesta and Messi for under 40m. I will feel 100% better when we sign an enforcer for the midfield, if Jermaine cannot be acquired. The flying wingers and wingbacks can wait.

He can cover several positions and can still make it for few years.
Glenn Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Anyone found anything on Rondan or Leimao (possibly chinese Lei Mao ?). My knowledge of world football is weak, and seemingly my google-fu is weaker today,
BPF Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Is it my imagination or did someone really talk about us hiring Mike Parry

We will play with Nzoini and J Jones in middle and wingers providing the crosses for the strikers to score. Givet can play at centre back and that's his best position. I would keep Dunn, Emerton and Pedersen. Kalinic will leave if he is going to be fourth/fifth choice striker. Grella and Andrews to go.

I'd like to see a few established Premier League players linked to us as well. My worry is we will get none of them. Nice to admire Venkey's/Rovers/Kean going for some very High Quality signings. But until the Big Teams Barca, Real, Citeh and Chelsea, kick start the transfer market who knows where anyone will end up where. Barca want Fàbregas to replace act as cover for Xavi who has knee issues and they also want Sánchez from Udinese. Neymar is being tracked by Chelsea and Real. Citeh are struggling to get anyone who will walk in to their team even with Mega money. I think Kean should play either system tbh. We need to be flexible. We will play with Nzoini and J Jones in middle and wingers providing the crosses for the strikers to score. Givet can play at centre back and that's his best position. Seriously time for him to leave, great player in the past tense.

How many games do you think Dunn and Pedersen will play next season ? They're both probably on £ 40 K a week- that would pay the wages for the top striker we desperately need. Emmo I'd take a chance on, his form at the end of the season was good and he's versatile plus he doesn't make waves behind the scenes. I like Kalinic but it looks like he's out at Rovers, we could be sorry- time will tell. Robbie Keane- I was his biggest fan but I think we'd do well to give him a swerve now, methinks he's gone.
Jamesw1982 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Nicko arent spurs close to signing him tho? Sure i read somewhere they had signed him pre contract or something?
Majiball Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Keep Dunn for what as club Chef? Seriously time for him to leave, great player in the past tense. With 6 new foreign players supposedly on their way, retaining home grown players will be required, otherwise we'll be selecting raw kids in the squad. Also when we get in the champions league we'll need them as well.
John Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Have not seen a lot of the players we have been linked with so can't really comment. Still think a quality centre back will be needed especially if Samba leaves.
yeti-dog Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Don´t see why we should get rid of Emerton. He can cover several positions and can still make it for few years. Agree...keep Emerton, very versatile- a good squad member. Get rid of the rest, but possibly keep Pedersen if we don't get as many of our midfield targets as we hoped for. All the rest are dead men walking in terms of long-term Rovers' careers.
modes98 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If we get all these players aren't we going to be over the home grown player regulations or can we get round it by some being under 21? I know we were quite close last year and if we sell Dunn, Andrews, etc then we must be getting very close. Have not seen a lot of the players we have been linked with so can't really comment. Don't let that stop you John. Doesn't stop others

Realistically we should listen to any offers for: Grella Andrews Pedersen Dunn Emerton Kalinic Blackman and more maybe Blackman wants to stay.. and seems like he is from what I hear.. Andrews to Forrest, 2 million. Grella I feel we may have to release him as nobody wants him! Emerton, I can see the value in keeping him as a back up player.. very versatile RB/RM/CM.. would be leaving on a free to Aussie so may as well keep! Pedersen, we know Tugay wants him at Gala.. however we can't get rid of everyone who can play in CM! KEEP. Dunn, overweight, slow, injury prone, usually all the things we look for in a midfielder!! I would get rid, however with this home grown rule he could be needed! With Venkys being linked with buying his house though.. could be on the move! Kalinic, Would like to keep him, however he doesnt seem to be in Kean's plans, sell now and get as much back as possible.
Commondore Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Anyone found anything on Rondan or Leimao (possibly chinese Lei Mao ?). My knowledge of world football is weak, and seemingly my google-fu is weaker today, Venezuelan striker born 1989 who more or less emerged this year, he scored 14 in 30 for Malaga (who had a poor season otherwise) in his first season in the Spanish La Liga. Good header of the ball, but explicitly stated in an interview a few weeks back that he would like to stay in Spain. Malaga has rich backers who makes Venkys look like small potatoes, making this deal somewhat unlikely IMO.

Citeh are struggling to get anyone who will walk in to their team even with Mega money. If the 40-50m figures are correct then my question is who are we competing with in England for signings this year. Chelsea-after no one we are City,Spurs-look like they have sell before they buy, both squads are jam packed full of quality as is. Utd- GK(De Gea),young and Jones-budget nearly gone already. Arsenal-Wenger tightest manager ever despite having big money, Hazard, 2 x centre halfs. The only two teams I think we will compete with are Newcastle(who have already signed 3 good players) and Liverpool. I guess my point Bangkok is that although the list contains some very good quality, the top players Neymars,Pastores,Hamsiks,Aguero's,Falcao's,Marins will be heading to the Big teams. Our list looks reasonable
nicko Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Nicko arent spurs close to signing him tho? Sure i read somewhere they had signed him pre contract or something? Spurs have been trying to sign Daimao for weeks...draw your own conclusions. That is a deal that can be done if he is top of the particular category on the Rovers wish list.

There was a article in the prees last night that Harry has to shift some squad players before he spends, "it will be a quite summer" yeh! right arry. Nevertheless if true it could be holding potential deals up. 5m for O'Hara may be loosening the purse strings.
Oklahoma Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Nicko, any left back on the top players list? I think that is a position that definetly needs a first team player. Izaguirre from Celtic, for example.
