imy9 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Spurs have been trying to sign Daimao for weeks...draw your own conclusions. That is a deal that can be done if he is top of the particular category on the Rovers wish list. Nicko- have Venkys not decided on number 1 targets? What I'm getting at is that this sounds like a few weeks of work as opposed to six players arriving on Monday!

Darwen Rover Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Pleased.. Actually not pleased... Over the moon with the names we are linked with.. Yep I agree big difference between trying and doing.. But if you don't try you don't DO if that makes sense... My big concern however is with targets we are going for seems like ollson is being lined up for LB and I think that would be a huge loss to our LW not to mention he's average to poor at LB!
Majiball Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Nicko, any left back on the top players list? I think that is a position that definetly needs a first team player. Izaguirre from Celtic, for example. Since we don't even have one you would think it would be a priority. Kean said we needed a ball playing midfielder and yet none are being linked, unless of course the one in the bag is one and needing a bag to get people to Rovers does not surprise me one bit. Policy just seems to be sign the best we can for any position given those we have been linked too and then let captain marvel lose on them.

If we get Piatti then we have improved at LW, however I agree that Olsson at LB is worrying and I would personally like to see us target a dedicated LB. Targetting a Salgado replacement is fine at RB but he will still play a reasonable amount of the season there, whereas an LB could step in immediately.
67splitscreen Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 The quality of incoming players is changing, Olsson needs to improve his goal tally and assists or bench time beckons. That's if we sign them all.

True Blue & White Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If we get all these players aren't we going to be over the home grown player regulations or can we get round it by some being under 21? I know we were quite close last year and if we sell Dunn, Andrews, etc then we must be getting very close. Nah we're fine even without Dunn and Andrews. You need 8 out of your squad of 25, and we'd still have these 12 that qualify as "homegrown". Paul Robinson Frank Fielding Mark Bunn Martin Olsson Aaron Doran David Hoilett Gavin Gunning Jason Roberts Grant Hanley Josh Morris Jason Lowe Michael Potts
chaddyrovers Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Fielding and Potts have leave rovers in the summer!!! Kean must think we are fine at left back with Olsson and Givet plus Anderson

Fairly sure they've both left. EDIT: dammit, wasn't even second to mention this.
Neal Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I am literally speechless at that update from Nicko... Cheers fella. If half come off I'd be happy! Can't wait for an announcement of our first signing.
s_simpson_9 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Arn't Potts and fielding gone? I'm slower than everyone. Carry on.
sweet Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If those signing come off, we should most certainly be competing for a european place!
67splitscreen Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If those signing come off, we should most certainly be competing for a european place! If Kean can mould them into a unit that wins games.
Hekla Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 The thought of Piatti is making my heart beat really fast. Can you imagine the interest this would generate for Blackburn?
67splitscreen Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Izaguirre is wanted by Man Utd. Is it not the other way around, thought the article I read, stated that he had said the Manc's were interested in him. Either way he is one I would certainly be interested in for the LB spot.

You must find it hard going through life with this attitude. We're being linked to top players in positions we need to strengthen (strikers, wingers, centre back) and yet you still find a way to be negative. Its quite impressive to be honest. I just cannot understand why you are trying to focus on every negative issue you can find when there is no real need. Last year we got Benjani on a free and Diouf on loan. You'd rather be back in those days?? No, thought not. When Sept 1st runs around then we'll know how well Kean/Venky's have done. Why dont you wait until then before you start criticising transfer activity that hasnt even happened yet..
texasrover Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 ollson's confidence is at a level we've never seen before, so I don't think it's fair to judge him on his LB skill right now. When he did fill in there last season he didn't seem to do badly (nothing like the season before). I think he'd make a fine wing-back if given the opportunity to support an outstanding left winger.

Spot on. I thought Olsson was very good at overlapping the winger when playing LB.
BRFC_Pilkz Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 It's good to see some quality players being targeted hopefully we can get Piatti in and a striker that can score goals. That Damiao has a good scoring record in Brasil 22 goals in 24 games last season.
Ripleys love child Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Majiball I think you should find some time to rejoice at being linked with such fantastic names the likes we could only dream of over the last 10/15 years. I'm sick of you stinkin this forum out with negativity, get a grip son
pick32 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Going to put my neck on the line here and say MGP would be a good LB. The reason I think that is because he has always been one for trackking back and putting a foot in and wins the majority of headers he goes for. Worth trying him there in pre season and seeing how he copes.
mattyc2422 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I'll give Venky's one thing - they've given us some names to be excited about. REALLY hope the club can pull some of these deals off.
