Trolling me are you? For starters Tugay wasn't a box to box player as I suggested we need, but if you had any involvement or knowledge of football as opposed to an agenda to troll me you would know that. Jones is a poor passer of the ball, proven last season with us, N'zonzi loves to pass sideways again because I watch him play and since when has adequate been enough at premier league level? So lets just pass it out wide constantly and watch teams force us to play through the middle or cut out the wide passes. No successful team at the level we are supposedly aiming for eliminates one of the attacking areas, right, left and central, they attack where they need to and ensure they have players that can do so. Solid midfielder doesn't mean they have to lack technical ability, but then again if you think Tugay is a box to box midfielder then there's little point in this conversation either.

Jesus what's got in you bonnet?!

Stop being paranoid. When I am online I respond to the most ridiculous posts. Currently you are providing them.

Nothing wrong with a sideways pass, you undervalue Jones and there is no way you can say forget signing quality on the wings and up front, without a central playmaker it won't work.

I wasn't saying Tugay was a box to box midfielder. I was saying as an added point that Jones doesn't always need to put out a perfect pass as Tugay did as he has the ability to burst through from time to time as he did last season. If he burst through and was surrounded with talent up front, that could be lethal.

Calm down and think before you post sweetheart.

I think people are forgetting we bought rochina and formica. Both those players creatr goals. Or apparently do. So bext season either of those could represebt our attacking creative midfielder we desperately crave. Providing they are ready. I think i remeber keab saying formica was ready but didnt want to play him in the relegation battle. So we should theoretically see nore of him next season and he could be the spark we need

Brilliant creative passing midfielders like Atkins, Slater, Batty and Sherwood.. ? We will end up with to many creative types and completely lack muscle in the center unless you mean for us to buy the complete midfielder, I am sure Nzonzi and JJ would be able to pass it out to the wings, they are just not great at threading those deadly passes through to the strikers.

Exciting names mentioned in Nicko's article.

I've heard of most of them but haven't really seen them play regularly. Can anyone summarise each of the foreign players and let me, any others, know what they're all about? i.e. their best attributes and how they would improve our team.

I would check on YouTube but I think even YouTube could make Jason Roberts look like a £15m striker at times.

Oh and I don't want to seem picky but it's Steve Kean not Keane, just like it's Ryan Nelsen and not Nelson or Pedersen and not Pederson. It wouldn't annoy me if they were people who represented other teams but we should all know how to spell our own players names!

I wouldn't worry too much about it Tim. With some of the efforts that get posted on here evry day I would be very surprised if their authors can even spell their own names.

So many names, so little bandwith...to be honest the names in the People are only a PART of the list of players you have enquired about.

Best way to give you an update is by position.

MAIN STRIKER...Vucinic, Cardozo and Cisse all looked into in detail...all proving very expensive which is not a surprise...the big money will go on this position...you would take any of the three 'number nines'...it depends who blinks first...you could throw even more money at all three...or you could find one falls into your lap...it won't be quick...unless you are lucky...even bigger names were looked at and discarded...the amount of homework done on this position is large...there is another worldie striker who could be available for much less than people imagine...but that news has not filtered through yet...early days.

EXTRA STRIKER...Robbie Keane came out of nowhere last week, possibly in discussions on another topic...the fee is low, the wages are high, the main problem would be getting him to move north...but I quite like the chap and think he would be an excellent addition...will take a bit of doing...the possibility of being part of a Samba is intriguing.

YOUNG OR EMERGING STRIKER...Some very imaginative names there...Rondan, Leimao and others who have not meen mentioned so far...these targets are easier to land...but it depends on the cash spent elsewhere.

LEFT WINGER...Piatti is THE man...I know for a fact that this can be done...since doing the story I have established that the player would come here...his agent wants him to come here...Benfica and possibly Udinese in for him, Wigan were but no longer...for some reason Rovers have a figure in their head that is HIGHER than it would take...both the player, his agent and his club Almeria would do this...GET ON WITH IT!...Marin was a remarkable thought, no harm in checking, even if it is just to establish what world class players cost...the third choice is not so well known...and not so good.

MIDFIELD...Jones is still looking ok...a matter of keeping the price down and the wages real...there could be MORE in that area if you did get lucky and sell Andrews, Grella or Pedersen...this name is very sexy but there is an 'issue' with him...don't ask, don't press, I won't be saying yet.

RIGHT BACK...Anjukov IS the Russian right back...like every other move it is about getting the best price and sensible wages.

CENTRE HALF...the wait is for Miranda, but at least it will be a short wait...IF Samba goes then there would be ANOTHER and similarly-costly replacement...my info is that Arsenal will not pay the money for him that Rovers want...swaps are an option with both them and Spurs, but straight cash would be best...and lots of it.

That's not the end of it. There will be three or four young players recruited for underneath the squad. The Paraguayan lad is the first, more will follow.

This is, in a word, mental...

cheers nicko, i hope it happens ............

Twitter seems to be saying that Atletico have a deal agreed with Almeira for Piatti, but that they have to sell before they can buy.

I have seen this also, it doesn't seem very convincing though.

If nicko is right in saying that Piatti and his Agent want to come to Rovers, then you would hope Piatti would wait for our offer before signing for another club. here's hoping anyway

Yes, pay the £8 million and get it done quickly.

that is what Nicko said this morning. hopefully this will be done in the next few days!

If we don't sign him, I would go for Andres Guardado from Depo. similar type of player to Piatti!

Agree with you there.. we will certainly have a pretty flexible team.

Personally think Kean will go 4-4-2 with the fullbacks occasionally overlapping, with allot of potential for hitting them on the break with the pace in that team.

Whatever happens I reckon Kean is aiming for a more traditional 442, but if we land those we are looking at this sort of side would scare me.

-----------Robinson

Anyukov - Miranda - Samba - Olsson

Jones - NZonzi

Jnr - Piatti

Rondon/Daimaio

Cisse/Keane/Vuci

Both Olsson and Anyukov are good going forward, Jnr and Piatti can play as forwards, second strikers or in the hole and we will have a prety tough center to the team.

And Maji I really don't agree we will be desperate for a ball playing creative midfielder, I seem to remember our league winning side didn't exactly shine in the middle of the park when it came to creativity.. was all about the wings and the strikers and that system still works.

OK a couple of scenarios for you:

We attack down the right, the attack breakdown and we need to switch the play, who out of Jones & N'zonzi is capable of making the quick 40-50 yard pass needed to hit the other flank? Neither.

The opposition set up 451 pushing out one of the central midfield players to the appropriate flank to double up on us out wide, whilst maintaining man for man elsewhere. We get no joy from the flanks and are forced to play in the middle where we are man for man. What do you do? Neither of your central players can play a defence splitting/switch pass or have vision. Our tactic last year was to be direct when that happens and given the front 4 are in the main weak and short, defences will lap it up all day. We'll then look to play it in behind to exploit the pace we have and the opposition will just drop deeper to compensate, forcing us back to the way we were playing at the start.

A box to box player can play both attacking and defence well and that is exactly what we will need to ensure we do not limit our attacks next season. We may have won the league that way but what did we have in the middle, Sherwood a box to box midfielder. Add in the most deadly striker force in English football at the time, which funnily enough we no longer have, do we?

Personally I want a creative player ala Tugay, however the discussion was playing a 4231 and one of the central midfielders has to be able to play to a high technical level to ensure we can thread the ball into Formica and the unsigned Cisse. You see two brutes await both of them in central defence for the opposition and so if all we do is get it wide and in, who is going to win 9 times out of 10, the defence. They'll both be making runs off their markers and if cannot get the ball directly into their path and onto the desired foot, the limited space you get at this level will mean the attack breaks down.

I guess my point Bangkok is that although the list contains some very good quality, the top players Neymars,Pastores,Hamsiks,Aguero's,Falcao's,Marins will be heading to the Big teams.

All I was trying to say normally clubs like Rovers have to wait for the big boys to spend. I understand we are not after the same players but when players move to the big clubs the teams that have all the money from the big clubs then spend that money to replace the players. Maybe some of the players are on the list will be the replacements.

Of course all Rovers fans should be happy with the list of players. Thankfully no RSC on the list.

Very interesting to me, all these rumours of us splashing big money for good players yet not ONE SINGLE PEEP is on SSN over here. They seem quick to report our departures but little else, what gives?
