Don't knock progress. If we were still under the Trust they'd be licking their own testicles at this moment in time pondering how good they taste and how best they could invest the money from PJones into Flybe. Hindsight is a great thing...you aren't using it. The Trust would have let us go to the dogs. Enjoy this rare treat.

The Trust for all their failings in the last few years would not have sacked a very good manager. I must say I am enjoying the "rare treat" that is Steve Kean immensely. Progress will be if any of these "signings" actually come to fruition and if they prove to be money well spent. Chucking cash at the transfer market is a waste of time if the management structure is not right. And the previous manager managed 10th place in a very small budget - with an apparently bigger budget Kean will be expected to do much better. If he does achieve that then we might say we are making progress.

See the negativity is starting to creep back onto the board

Gratefully, a touch of realism Hughesy.

Don't forget where we were at the end of last season squad wise - and don't miss where we are now, - considerably weaker. The latest news from the LT suggests that Kean has the Jones transfer money + the annual £10m.

Well see. Let's hope rovers don't make a hash of all this and can strengthen the squad from where we are now.

Well so is Nicko, but I guess that's who you want to believe. That's why I say plenty of posters don't want to see reality. Nothing wrong with that as such. No-one was more biased than me as a young fan, but let's not get carried away with the with speculation, - while at the same time decrying anyone who wont go that route as "negative".

The paper does act like a club PR mouthpiece at times and should be more questioning of events at Ewood but LT doesn't generally run speculative stories - is it any worse for that ? Endless speculative stories in the red tops may be "exciting" but very few actually turn out to be correct.

You can't dispute the fact that the LT does re use stories. Nicko always comes across as being for more well informed than Mr.Cryer and therefore i'm more inclined to believe what he says. The 'reality' is we as a club are in a far better off position at the moment than we have been in years! even if we make 3 signings who collectively only cost £10million it's still an improvement on than the last 10 or so years. I can't comprehend how people are being negative without real incentive.

Hitzelberger is drab he has never been a good player never mind at this moment in time, just cause he scored one screamer doesn't mean he would be a good addition to our team.

German correspondent pm talksport yesterday said he was drab and that in Germany they think

he should retire, and the guy knows his stuff

Despite having seen him quite a few times over the years I can't really bring to mind what kind of a player Hitz is. I know he has a great left (?) foot and is a goal threat from anywhere, but what's his game like apart from that?

LT reports that

"Owners Venky's are prepared to fund Kean's summer shopping to the tune of around £30 million as they chase their ultimate goal of one day guiding Rovers back into Europe."

I interpret this as being that Venky's are prepared to chip in a lazy £30m of their own dosh, on top of the Jones money - and this would confirm that we have a budget of approx £50m

All this is a completley different scenario from "the Jones money plus £10m..." and is a gesture of largesse that is way beyond my expectations

Some say he's a very good manager. Some say average. Others say he's the man who singlehandedly kills football every week. I assume you can tell which camp i'm in. I don't agree with the timing of his sacking but I don't think I would have given him the funds to take us forward. I'd rather Kean be here than Allardyce.

Anyway, regardless of that, I know the only way we can tell progress is if we do progress. By that I mean that we complete the signings, the signings are a success, it shows in the results.

All i'm saying is that i'm a lot more optimistic than if we had Allardyce at the helm and/or we were still with the Trust.

Are Milan after Lamela Roberto?

I would imagine a lot of clubs would be looking at him after River got relegated. Creative midfielder in the centre, sort of player we should be looking at if Venky's are looking for talents in South America to build up their profile in the region. Though if the likes of Milan really want him we have no chance...

It's very vague to say the least. I can't see how you can come to the conclusion that Venky's are putting in 30m of their own money from those quotes though. There's nothing at all there, to confirm that. One option Venky's have, is to put their agreed 5m/year cash forward - in one go.

Dont read between the lines. It clearly says they will spend 30m. Nothing about own money, etc...So assume its 30m right now. It makes sense as it fits in with the 10-15m funding + Jones money. If Samba leaves it could be close to 50m then, which again makes it 10-15m of their own + Samba/Jones money.

So, if we sell Samba the transfer budget would be in excess of 60M?

I don't believe it!

No the latest news suggests Kean has the £16m we receive NOW for Jones + another £14m.

How can they be putting in the extra £4m for Jones when we dont have it yet, so clearly they are putting extra on top.

That's why I say plenty of posters don't want to see reality.

Reality is we are now being linked with players like Cisse (£13m), Piatti (£8m) instead of your Beatties, Carew’s and Fayes. (Yes we havent signed them yet - but usually most clubs dont have their signings in the bag by yet)

Reality is there is STILL 9 ½ weeks until the window closes

Reality is – people need to sit back and wait
