Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part Two

This says, I think, that SC Freiburg's total annual wages were £15M (€16,7M) in 2009-2010. Split that to players and backroom staff, and anything over £30k/w (£1,5M/yr) doesn't seem very plausible even if there has been some increase last season. Our annual wage budget is three times bigger..

Andy Cryer has release a list of 30+ names we've been linked with. We have the vast majority of them documented on here, but there are a few we are missing. Anyone fancy taking the time to create threads for them ?

I think we would all love to have the players here, allot of nervous fans at Rovers given our past endevours, but the reality is only 3 players of 5m or more have been signed in the entire premier league and we now have a completely different management structure from the top down.

Happy with us going for a few ambitious targets first, those that would make big dents in the overall budget (which obviously effect the remaining budget), if you want the best you have to pay it and sometimes you can bag a biggish name at a bargain price.

IMO we (and many other clubs) have to often rushed for average players that we knew we could get rather than trying to be a little more ambitious, this time we seem to of been very ambitious and already crossed of the ones we know are out of range (Vuc, Miran etc).

Once we have the main targets (or when we know we can't get them) then we can then concentrate on the mid range targets(Who seemingly have already been identified) with a more accurate overall budget.

To me atm the key ones are Miranda, Cisse and Piatti all three could significantly effect our overall budget for differing reasons.

Except for Keane very happy about the list that has been knocked up so far and even happy with the extra names that have been apparently added like Mgongo (or whatever his name is), alou Diarri and N'Koulou.

Why do we automatically assume we haven't? We(as fans) are in no way party to the backroom scene at our club. Our only inkling of what goes on comes from our very own Nicko and what is reported in the rest of the press and neither one of those has it set in stone. None of us know how far down the road negotiations are for players, so instead of behaving like spoilt kids in a sweetie shop (I want I want I want!) How about we accept that these things take time and just enjoy what must be the most exciting window for years. ;)

ive never tasted sweets, that are as good as these ones ;)

IF we have identified targets already, and as I understand it, this was done a couple of weeks ago when Kean went to India, then by now, bids should have been lodged already.

I agree, however almost every player we are (supposedly) attempting to sign over the next two month has already become public knowledge. I am not sure if that is normal or not, to know almost every target your owners/manager is looking for before they even bid.. There is only three reasons I can come up with and I don't know which if any are true.

Someone is reading this forum and gauging fan reactions before finalising any bids. Our intel is epic or it is just good media spam, keeping us and Venky's a topic of conversation.

Mrs. Desai does read this forum though.. right?

I just hope we start bidding soon haha.

See the negativity is starting to creep back onto the board

Seriously just give them a few weeks to make some signings, its early days yet!

Nicholas N'Koulou also linked in todays LT

I agree with you both, sadly i fear you are wearing away the skin on your fingers, some seem to revel in negativity and despair.

I'm one of those who's beginning to feel negative.

All this talk of players we're after. Talk and rumour; talk and rumour.

It's nearly July and WE HAVEN'T SIGNED ONE FIRST TEAM PLAYER YET!!

If we could sign just one cracking player, then others may follow.

But I fear all of them will say "No" to little old Rovers like Vucinic did. Very worried.

dont panic.

most players are still on holiday.. and many of european based players could remain on holiday for another couple of weeks.

how's about feeling positive instead of negative.. its easy if you try! ;)

Most transfers happen in July anyway. Most players are still on vacation.

And there is also the Copa America, that resulted in a lot of transfers to be delayed...

So far, we lost PJ and JJ. Losing Mame Diouf and RSC is not exactly a problem...

I believe 2 or 3 new first team players will be signed till the begining of pre-season.

Bolton, Stoke, Everton, Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, West Brom haven’t done anything either.

Come to think of it – the new boys QPR, Swansea or Norwich haven’t done much either and they are surely in a more desperate need for players than us.

Its still very early, who have we signed this early in the past?

Hitz would be an ideal signing to knock Grella and Andrews down the pecking order. Maybe not as flash as some of the signings mentioned but he was fantastic for West Ham in the last six months and my West Ham mate thinks they would have been cut adrift way before without him.

Errrm I'd rather we didn't sign Hitz, and tried to get rid of Grella and Andrews. Pretty sure the combined wages saved would enable us to get a fine player.

Piatti is the only deal I really feel we need to rush. Apparently, it can be done now, at 8 million, which is a snip. Frankly, if this is true, it is an opportunity we can't be missing, as other and bigger clubs are bound to come sniffing.

Cisse? Well we're his only English option apparently, all others from Russia, and no clubs seem willing to meet the fee, so I think we can be more patient with this one and try to get the price down.

4-5 players of value (5m plus) signed in the whole of the EPL and 2 of those went to ManU and more than 2/3s of the EPL have not signed anyone at all.. and your 'very worried' we 'HAVEN'T SIGNED ONE FIRST TEAM PLAYER YET!'.. christ mate chill... delay panic mode until the mid/end of July.

Anyone know if the signing of the new DoF might cause any delays? And anyone heard when he is arriving?

No, he is not going.

Good stuff. Hope we make a move for him this week.

Also, interesting to see that Spurs are going to have to sell to buy. Although they have the players to sell, might delay them making a move for Damiao if we're still interested.

I don't know Hughesy. The LT said "around" 30m - so the obvious starting point here is 16m for PJ, plus whatever Venky's put in theirselves, which assuming they forward two transfer windows cash at 5m/window is 26m. But I don't know what the end figure will be. I'm just trying to say that whenever posters try to bring the reality of the situation, in other words how things actually are now, they get derided for being negative.

I think we'll only know the reality of the situation in 6 weeks or so when we play our first game.

Makes me laugh the impatience in general around here (not including you in that Den). People who don't know the first thing about doing business complaining because we haven't made a bunch of signings yet. Our track record in spending money we've had from player sales has historically been poor. Much rather they took the time to get it right.

Well said. Why do some people just want to complain and be negative, lets leave that to the national press who will take great delight if Venkys fail. I'm loving the prospect of getting a few big names in and what ever happens it won't be anywhere near as bad as the Ince window with Andrews and Grella coming in. Sorry I almost forgot Robbie Fowler!!

all the back and forth over how much rovers have to spend is really tedious and pointless really.

whether its 20mill or 50mill, having money to sign (top quality)players and actually signing (top quality)players is a very differant thing, Vucinic is the perfect example, im optomistic but you also have to be a bit realistic.

also ithink if an established big name player (vucinic,adebayo,ect..) did sign for us, i think youd have to question there motives, i personaly dont like to see players changing clubs simply for another payday, they only cause unrest and try to get themselves another move after a season or so(benni Mc,RSC,Bentley,Bellamy), id rather we went for young football hungry players like piatti,

Exactly because we could even afford Carew, Beattie or Faye! It was that desperate.

I think we all know Ronaldinho was over the top ambitious and Becks never really got going either.

Our targets are much more realistic and we seem to know the sort of prices we will need to pay....now is the time to give it 2 or 3 weeks to see what comes of those targets. I can gaurantee most signings will happen after July 22nd as thats when im away, and it ALWAYS happens when im not here!

Is there no chance we can get you on a plane tonight Hughsey?B)

Spurs money problems are not new news.

Spurs also announced that their turnover had increased 49% to £79m. Thats while they are in the Champions League which I think they did really well in. Failure to qualify again this season means they have to sell or take on debt.

But they do have lots of players who will interest EPL teams, way to many to list here.

Yes RTH, that's right.

Steve Kean wont know how much is available as transfer funds at this point. I imagine it's a suck it and see scenario. As players are signed [and I have no doubts that a number of players will be coming in], the budget will alter. Big contracts = less money for transfer fees.

Have to agree with this. Just because the club have not secured a signature as yet should not be used as a stick with which to beat the owners or the manager. There's very few signings been made in the league as a whole yet and according to Nicko we have many irons in the fire - all it needs is a little patience. I would like to see a couple of new players in before pre-season training starts though.
