I was expecting to hear they were wanting closer to £10m. £7m isnt too bad a starting point - would be ok with him coming here providing it's alongside Cisse or similiar and the price is £4m-£5m.

No offence Jamie but I fail to understand your point of view.

Did you see him against us? He is barely an improvement on Roberts and that is saying something. Five million on Keane and nothing on a left back? Olsson is not a defensive player, no matter how much Kean tries to force it. Even if Givet stays, we need cover.

This has been my concern for some time.

It's well and good showing ambition and saying we're going to go for elite, world class players... but we cannot offer any european competition, have no current world class players here, have a nobody as a manager and can at best only match the wages being offered by clubs in european competition.

Venky's ideas are nice but it almost seems like they're trying to run before they can walk. We don't necessarily need world class players right now, we need decent players - younger or older - who still have a point to prove. If we can reach the Europa League next season we'll have a bigger chance of nicking some higher class names. In the meantime I think we'll struggle, and only silly wages could tempt a star player to join us.

The only advantages we have is Kentaro - a dubious positive at best - and the fact we play in the Premier League. Unfortunately if bigger clubs in England, Italy, Spain, or Germany come in for the players we're going for those advantages are dimished considerably imo.

Agree with most of that - also, would not want us to spend all available money in this window if we can't land our targets.

I accept we need to add quality to the squad however no point spending money for the sake of it.

Sure there will be some decent domestic/foreign loan deals available too.

so no bid for cisse and no bid for piatti but we have bid for keane. . Same old ###### from rovers when it comes to signing players. and whats this crap about struggling to attract world class players i thought we were after cisse and piatti hardly world class thats why they are currently playing for clubs that would stuggle to compete in the championship. if we cant land these sort of players then its gonna be another long long season.

Sure gonna be an interesting week or two. I hope we can push for these players and start bringing in some quality.

I do find it funny with how things have changed. People keep saying the club are talking the talk but it's actions that count (and this is of course very true), but I think with the amount of time people spend on here and the amount of time they ponder over all of the possible moves, they think that time is moving incredibly slowly. They've said they are going to be looking to bring quality in. They did not say when. It is early days. I hope that things do happen soon, for the sanity of many people on the board and it's always nice to see the first one in. Right now though, it just seems that every 24 hours that passes, people get more frantic and more frantic. We are hoping we are rushed into signings by the end of the window, but in truth that is quite a way away, especially if we are treating every 24 hours as a potential to wrap up half a dozen deals as some people are doing.

What is worrying is if Keane is the first player we have put a concrete offer in he may be top of the list, I dread to think who may be further down.

As BPF said though what we don't want is to be knocked back by everyone and end up with another Kalinic near deadline day.

Hope this week has good news.

You have to hope to high heaven that we are pursuing multiple targets at once. If this is bidding week, after planning week last week then you would expect things to be leaking out by the weekend.

On a positive note, people might be looking in the wrong areas for transfers, hence no news? We might be taken by surprise. Or that might just be blind optimism

Surley if we can agree a fee for Cisse and Piatti then it should be easy to convince them to leave their current clubs. I'm sure Almeria and Frieburg are decent clubs but they are a lot smaller than us and i'm sure we have far better facilties than them.

Cisse not in the Senegal squad for tonight!!!! WOnder where he is?

Nothing in that. Taken from article on Senegal squad

"However, coach Amara Traore will not be fielding his usual team. He has constituted another squad composed of players from the country’s Olympic and All African Games teams, as well as some locals."

there are other suitors for them both though. who could possibly offer more money/european football/better weather.

I really hope Blakburn are going to put a bid in for Papiss Cisee. If we paid 6 million for Kalinic who came from an iferior leauge, then cisee is a bargin at 13 million. Scored alot more goals than Kalinic in a much harder leauge.

Interesting that he isnt in the Senegal squad tonight, there must be something in that. I recon he isnt playing because he is close to signing for someone. No one would want to risk playing him if he was about to be transferred... All the signs suggests he could be signing for us....

Money is an important factor in getting the right quality of player in.

No, we are not one of the 'prestigious' clubs, so this will also be a factor.

However, IMO, our achilles heel is Kean. None of the targets will know too much about him. Contrast his familiarity and respect in the game with the likes of Jol, Mark Hughes, Hodgson and, yes, even Big Sam.

A 'smaller' club saddled with a manager with little drawing power will inevitably find it difficult to land the better quality of player even if prepared to offer big wages.

After getting all giddy last week, now the worry is coming back. Are we making a move on these top rated players? If not,how come? Will we end up with an over-priced Keane, a re-signed Keith Treacy, and none of these fancy players?

I'd not like our hopes to be dashed through slow movements and missed opportunities. It is that uncertainty that is so annoying.

People clearly have some differing opinions on Robbie Keane and a proposed move to Ewood Park.

btw

If anyone on here thinks they will beat me to giving Keith Andrews a free lift to Nottingham, should they sign him, you are mistaken

Brilliant. I imagine with the amount of people offering a lift it will be like a French road block on the way down to Nottingham with the amount of cars in convoy from Lancashire

Give it a damn rest. You have no idea how well Kean can do in the transfer market. At least give the guy a chance. If he fails this summer then fine, he'll deserve criticism. Until then I see no benefit in trying to throw more mud in his direction just for the sake of it. Hughes and co did well because we gave him a chance. Kean will have the same opportunity.

But the Piatti thing strikes me as a major deal at the moment - and one that could be done quite easily.

Typical Rovers dallying over transfer targets.

I'm terrified of us getting closer to August and through sheer desperation pulling off several Nathan Blake style signings.

Fingers crossed though ey. The next two weeks are going to be indicative of the entire window for us, mark my words.

Time for action. Pussyfooting about will get us nowhere. Fingers crossed doesn't even begin to cover it. I'm happy with the ambition, but it needs to be done, not talked about.

Not just me getting into a cold sweat.

It's still all talk the talk. Talk, talk, rumour, rumour.........................watch this space............

You'll be watching for the next few weeks. Sadly.

Also, it has been mentioned that deals are not done until July. How come Man Utd have signed three cracking players and Liverpool one, also, without waiting for July?

Do you think Cisse or Piatti knows who Tony Pulis, Alex McLeish, David Moyes are? I bet you all the money in the world they don't know 'em from Adam.

But no, Kean isn't famous enough, yadda yadda yadda, we're all doomed.

Play a different tune.

People clearly have some differing opinions on Robbie Keane and a proposed move to Ewood Park.

For what its worth Keane, IMO, would be an ideal striker to have at Ewood. He is an instinctive finisher, he has never needed to be blessed with pace he just knows where the back of the net is. Compared to Benjani or Roberts, he is a massive improvement and if Rovers were looking to sign him I would be happy to see him in a Rovers shirt. One things for sure where Keane is concerned, Rovers would not miss many 1 on 1's like we do with Roberts in the team.

I would love Rovers to have made inroads to buying their targets, Cisse is a player I know little about but based on what I have read he appears to be a potential future star.

There are those that dispel the likes of Hitzelsperge and Reo Coker as players that would not enhance our team, all I would say on that is that those people clearly dont realise that compared to our current crop of midfielders those two alone are stand out stars and would clearly benefit a Rovers first 11.

A midfield of Reo Coker, Hitzlesperger, J Jones and Olsson added to the likes of Hoilett and MGP is a quality central set up, We even have Formica to add to that potential formula not to mention Piatta and others.

Rovers are clearly intent on playing football and not hoof ball. Thats a good thing. I remain reserved as to how Rovers may or may not perform in the transfer stakes and for the time being I am not renewing my ST. I am waiting with baited breath becasue a lot is happening off the scenes which I think is benefitting the club. Its on the pitch that slightly worries me and until the first signings are made I feel no further need to comment with exception that BPF, Kamy and Nicko should continue their good work.

btw

If Venky's and Steve Kean didn't come out with such strong statements such as aiming for champions league football or looking to finish in such and such position in the top half of the table then people probably wouldn't be so against signing players like Keane, Reo-Coker.

If they said they were going to gradually improve the squad and in a few years time they would really push for a European finish but it will take time to change our style to a more exciting one, bring in better players over time and improve our reputation across Europe and see how our marketing goes in India then I don't think people would be up in arms over these players potentially signing for us.

It's because of them we are now expecting big named signings and i'm afraid that the majority will be extremely disappointed if they don't deliver on their huge promises.

If Venkys came out now and said "Actually we've found out just how tough it is and we've decided to change the way we move forward" then I think us fans will accept that, despite being disappointed. If they continue to talk big and not deliver then it will annoy the fans a lot more.

Good luck to them.

July 1 is when the European window opens. Clubs can transfer within their leagues in June, and can shop outside once July hits if I understand this correctly.
