The worry is pissing the £30 million up the wall on has been's like R Keane - players that will have no resale value. We have 'experience' up front - we need some younger talent. Sack off the 'worldie strikers' by all means but for the love of god bring in lesser known, young, talented players.

I think it is important to remember that neither the Venkys, Kean or any other official sources have said that we're interested in these players and have made a bid for any of these big names like they did with Ronaldinho and Beckham. It is Nicko and other journos getting people's hopes up, not the Venkys. Did we have a go at Jon Williams for bluffing when we didn't get targets that the newspapers linked us with?

who does wenger think he is trying to get a clubs captain (samba) on the cheap! he is one tight sod!! he knows he is interested so maybe hoping he'll go on strike and leave rovers with no option other than to let him go cheap! its all a load of crap! yet the whinging frenchie demands astro bid from barca for fabregas!!! erm.... wenger.... RAM IT!!!

would be happy to sign cisse and piatti, and deffinately another very good defender to replace the out bound and gone duo!

i am rather sensitive about losing superman!! :(

james milner anyone???

I quite agree. It wouldn't matter it if Brian Clough was in charge, Phil Jones would still have left as going to Man United is massive for any player. Samba wants champions league so unless we get a late invite he will be going and it will be nothing to do with Steve Kean. Lets give the guy a break and wait till Aug 31st as we as well support his transfer activity as he will be there no matter what.

And the fact is, he knows this. He's just trolling.

Kean can't attract players 'cos he isn't a household name? = Balls.

Rovers are taking too long to sign players? = Balls.

How many players have most PL clubs signed at this stage? Just wait and see what unfolds before spouting all this garbage ad nauseam.

Funny, considering the "lesser known, young, talented players" we've been linked with outnumbers Robbie Keane.

Of which we have currently bid for how many? Signing Keane should be one of the last deals we try and pull off - not the first IMO.

Still optimistic we will get some good players in. Problem is, the bar and expectations have been raised and it's very unlikely we'll have this kind of kitty again in the future.

Have we bid for Keane either? Not to my knowledge.

I don't care what order we sign players, so long as we get 'em. If that means tying up Keane before bringing in the big guns, so be it.

John dealt with both us and the traditional press in a very different way to the current regime it seems.

New management, new ways of doing things. We'll know at the end of this transfer window which works better.

I dont like all the lip flapping one bit. I used to pray for some news, but Jesus!

Seems that we are linked with every person who has kicked a ball, both windows. I feel now that I much preffered the silent treatment, but I didn't know that then.

If, thats if, we have been linked with everyone and we are left to buy anyone it will not be pretty.

This is just the same as in January - we cannot believe anything, until it happens.

Rovers have a bit of money to spend for a change. So this leads to speculation after speculation.

To be honest I do not believe the lists reported on here or the LT - for the simple reason that there are too many names on it for a start.

It is, in my opinion, media gossip that is being fed by others and others building on it.

But it would be nice to be proved wrong.

But seeing is believing with regards to Rovers and transfer speculation at the moment.

I think Keane would/could be a shrewd signing.....give him a full preseason and partner him with a player with Cisse's pace and it could be a good partnership! I think with all the transfer talk of late people are getting ahead of themselves.....Keane is still a very good player and is still scoring goals for Ireland! Don't judge him on his WHU stint they were even less creative than us! Agreed we should not be paying over 3/4 million!

i think we only need one striker really..... cisse seems a better option than rondo or whatever he's called after the read up! if we sign that piatti i dont see us using hoilett on the bench!? and also there is formica to get a start and also from what i saw a promising talent in rochina! quite dumbstruck as to why we signed benjani!?

I am being completely honest and sincere here, odd I know, but what REALLY worries me is wages. No one seems to be taking this into account or questioning this at all. This club for a long time now has had to sell players, as it is, to cover an inflated wage budget that our sponsorship and gate reciepts fail to cover, Sky money too for Gods sake. What has changed?

We have new owners who will throw 5 million a window at the club, does this count as wage costs too or just purely transfer money? If it is then we can half that amount for transfer budget. If not where does the extra come from? Are our owners going to write off debt constantly as we go further into the red?

Now this 30 million or 50 million or whatever... How much of that has been earmarked for the wages we have now, not even including what we bring in?

Every single player that we bring in is not just going to cost his transfer fee, there will be a substantial monthly expense fixed to him too. Its all well and good signing a bushel of players but we have to remember what will financially cripple us is wages.

Milner? Seems like reality check needed here. We are not going to buy over rated English players. Most of the incomers are under 25 and they come from abroad. I would take Piatti over Milner anyway.

not reality check pal.... i asked milner anyone for views!! he has caused rovers trouble when he has played against us....

i had read he may go back to villa on the cheap and it caught my attention :P

Define cheap?

Compared to 30, 15 is pretty cheap.

I agree, it is also a thought that has been troubling myself. Also the new rules coming in - the wages will be MORE than the club has coming in - so getting into european competitions will be a waste of time, because the wage to income ratio would disqualify us - unless I have misunderstood the rules. So Robbie Kean maybe our best bet as we may be able to afford him.

Big name here, big name there all equals big wages from income that we do not have.
