alll the speculation over transfer funds/wages is a real bore, just be gratefull we have some money to spend for once, however much it is.

I think there are lines of people on welfare with that same exact mentality.

Sorry to be a bore, maybe next time I will wear a little pointy hat and make you a balloon animal whilst I type.

Wages are big worry indeed. If owners lose their interest Rovers can´t handle huge wages. But that´s not main worry now when we haven´t even bought anyone.

If Rovers can land more than 5 targets this caliber will probably several players be sold or released (let Grella go free anyway). It´s starting eleven and bench but then comes own youngsters like Morris, Lowe, Hanley and maybe even Henley.

I am being completely honest and sincere here, odd I know, but what REALLY worries me is wages. No one seems to be taking this into account or questioning this at all. This club for a long time now has had to sell players, as it is, to cover an inflated wage budget that our sponsorship and gate reciepts fail to cover, Sky money too for Gods sake. What has changed?

We have new owners who will throw 5 million a window at the club, does this count as wage costs too or just purely transfer money? If it is then we can half that amount for transfer budget. If not where does the extra come from? Are our owners going to write off debt constantly as we go further into the red?

Now this 30 million or 50 million or whatever... How much of that has been earmarked for the wages we have now, not even including what we bring in?

Every single player that we bring in is not just going to cost his transfer fee, there will be a substantial monthly expense fixed to him too. Its all well and good signing a bushel of players but we have to remember what will financially cripple us is wages.

Been touched on before Reb, you have to consider the deadwood we have and those that have gone. It's been widely discussed that Pedersen, Diouf, Kishnashvili, Chimbonda, Grella, Roberts (and probably Andrews) et al are/were on pretty hefty contracts for players of their 'ability'. We have got rid of some and others may leave. Excluding the 'top striker' salary, I can't see the likes of Piatti (if he signs), Miranda etc being on bigger contracts than some of those mentioned. We were also paying Roque's ridiculous wage.

There may be some excess in wages which may be carried for a year, then we have more decent earners out of contract such as Salgado, Dunn, Emerton.

You would assume that the majority of players outside the 'first 11' in a couple of years time will be predominantly academy/younger talents and as such only commanding smaller wages.

Many people may find looking at their income and bank balance, when it comes to the mortgage payments boring. But the sad reality is, that it is essential. Failure to do so, could lose a person their home. I do not believe any Rovers supporter wants that for the club.

We all want success for Rovers - but not at the expence of the club possible closing down etc. Ok we are not at that situation, but some of us are asking the questions, not to be negative, but because they are sensible questions that need answers.

Agreed, it will be the wages that cripple us.

I also think people need to take into account agency fees and signing on fee's too.

However, since we actually have made sales early on this window, we should take advantage of the top signings before other clubs have sold (e.g. Bolton). I would hate to see us wait until the last few days and see who is left and going cheap. I cant remember the last good 'un we got this way.

Yes RTH, that's right.

Steve Kean wont know how much is available as transfer funds at this point. I imagine it's a suck it and see scenario. As players are signed [and I have no doubts that a number of players will be coming in], the budget will alter. Big contracts = less money for transfer fees.

So, IMO no-one can estimate how much will be spent on transfer fees, because wages will cut into that. As for Venky's committment to put in 5m/transfer window, I guess that the contract says that the 5m has to go towards transfers, whether that be fees, wages, or a combination of the two.. How could it possibly work any other way? It would be no good saying that the 5m has to go in transfer fees, because the wage bill might be too high before that money is spent.

I do wonder if the club are simply playing mind games with the Keane stuff, make a few other potential selling clubs abit more twitchy about not being able to sell their stars or maybe even as a bluff whilst we go and do something much bigger and better.

Heres hoping anyway!!

I pray that there is a divide between fees and wages, I really do.

What bothers me is how some are going to take the fact that we may not spend that amount of money on fees if our owners are wise enough to stagger it as such. Some delusions will be popped pretty hard.

They have been promised the world by some very mobile lip service and expect it.

Nicko's been a bit quiet today, I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

If you knew some of things going on behind the scenes in the past 48 hours you would realise why I am staying quiet. It is a case of being struck dumb.

If the BBC ever want to do a football version of In The Loop they should give me a bell. There is a ready-made script here.

Ffs.

Some things are going on that are just too bizarre.

Congratulations to the local paper for following the Sunday People on Keane while we are at it.

I am saying no more. It is probably for the best in the meantime.

Some people need to get a grip...and fast.

This does not bode well... Will we be hearing more this week?

Thanks, as ever, Nicko.
