Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I'm fairly sure if we rewind back to previous pre season periods I'm certain this board was full of similar frustrated posts re the lack of signings, I can recall them going on pre season abroad tours with no new signings at all, for 1 or 2 to turn up for a few games on trial, the point I'm trying to make is the current scenario is no different, rovers have rarely been overly communicative in who they are looking at so just because there may be more money than normal why would that change how they operate? Easily the best post today. Why is there such a "knee jerk reaction"? If I said we were signing Robbie Blake on a free would you cancel your ST's?!

Hughesy Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 The one silver lining I see in all this is that Venkys want even BIGGER names than the ones on the list....and money ISNT the issue....Yes its annoying when other talents can be snapped up now, but at least they really want the big names. We just need someone to get through to them that all that can come in a year or two once we are much higher up the league.
Mattyblue Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 This thread is really, really comical. The amount of people exploding in rage or paroxysms of delight at the non-signings of players we've been linked with (or not as the case may be) is just insane. Personally, I'll judge when the dust has settled. Talk about getting a grip! Meanwhile, thanks for the updates Kamy and Nicko... Exactly Ivan. I haven't got carried away with the 'star names' we have been linked with and I am not going to put the kinfe in now either. 1st of September comes around and things are still looking grim, then Venky's will have lost my support.
Bobby G Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Lets stop fantasizing. Bigger players than your Cisse's and the Vucinic's etc...? Are we doing the Ronaldinho story again?
BPF Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Exactly Ivan. I haven't got carried away with the 'star names' we have been linked with and I am not going to put the kinfe in now either. 1st of September comes around and things are still looking grim, then Venky's will have lost my support. I'm not sure why people keep mentioning the 1st September as an acceptable deadline. Are we expecting all of our new players in on this day? No pre-season? Any player signed on the last day will not be thrown straight in. Jesus, with our current squad we are going to get mauled. I'm sorry if people don't agree with this but the situation is more desperate than people thing. I can't help but wonder how long they are going to be looking through the Football Manager targets instead of signing quality, achieveable players!
Gav Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Hey? Why are we trying to sign a 37 year old goalkeeper from Tranmere? I'm trying hard not to follow suit and have the usual BRFCS knee jerk reaction to this, but goodness me its difficult not too, I can tell you. Tony Warner? please tell me he's a goalkeeping coach, please. Then again if we sign Piatti and Cisse this week then I don't care either way.

Who is the big name has been we are going to bid for ?

Venky's have been close to losing my support on many occasions (I'm sure they are bothered about that!), I don't trust them one iota. I believe we have the wrong manager. If things go badly, 1st September will be a good time to draw a line under this and say, 'right here we are, they talked the talk but they didn't walk the walk'

Diego by any chance? surely it's a no brainer to sign Piatti for 7 to 8 million,Vucinic and Ronaldinho have already turned us down so what world class player could these idiots have in mind.
bluebruce Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Well, last season Roberts scored 5 goals and Keane scored 3. Soooo.... Oh and to add to this, Keane's goals to games ratio was a goal every 6.66666666(etc), whilst Roberts' was a goal every 5.4. Anyway, haven't we been told repeatedly that money for the big name marquee will come as extras from Venky's pockets, not our usual budget? So what does this have to do with us not moving for other players?
Parsonblue Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Don't forget that we were bought as a marketing tool first and foremost. I think that is something which many of us tend to overlook. I'm beginning to wonder just how important this side of things is when it comes to new signings. Are the names on Nicko's list viewed as having potential to give the levels of exposure needed in marketing Venky's worldwide or is a "Beckham" or a "Ronaldinho" seen as more valuable from the marketing side? When Jack undertook his Ewood Revolution he had a vision and employed a Manager and Coach to deliver it. Indeed, this was long before the days of John Williams, but Jack knew what he wanted and got on with it. Now it seems we are being run by committee and it's difficult to understand who is calling the shots or what the vision is.
leerovers1980 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 in my eyes the biggest meeeting so far will be going on today with holliets dad, we need to prove to him and show him are ambitions and need to show him which direction are club is going , im glad holliets dad doesnt read this site he would do a runner
Fife Rover Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I am going to take a vow of silence on this one for a bit. There is just too much nonsense going on in some quarters. If things become public I will add what I can. If moves start happening then I will pitch in too. But this is just too strange and needs time to be played out without running commentary. Oh boy Nicko....you've done it now! Your only hope of survival is to put a padlock on your PM box and DO IT NOW!!

I can't help but wonder how long they are going to be looking through the Football Manager targets instead of signing quality, achieveable players! You make an important point BPF. Of course the window is open until 1st Sept, but that mustn't be the target for Rovers. We have lost a large part of our squad already and might lose at least two more in Samba and Hoilett. Taking the reality [again] of the situation - and where we were last season, we have to ensure we hit the ground running. That means Wolves, first game of the season. We must [iMO] have a much stronger squad then, than we do now. Get off to a bad start and the season could be equally as difficult, if not more so than last season. In the past there have been reasons why transfer dealings had to be left so late - in particular because we had no cash and were picking up the scraps when everyone else had had their fill. Now it's different. We have the money. We must get on with it.

Exactly, less than a handful of people say that we're going to sign some world class players and the next thing you know we're going to win the Champions League...fast forward a week and the next thing you know the sky is falling and we're signing a 'keeper from Tranmere... Not having a go at any of the posters of the valuable info that this board thrives on but sweet Jesus some of the drama queens on here are bloody ridiculous....

We just need someone to get through to them that all that can come in a year or two once we are much higher up the league. that my dear Chris, is the problem right there… why you might ask, because its simple, we only need to improve the squad and push on this year, without being dragged into a relegation fight. Easy, except, we are dragging ourselves through the mud, because we are obsessed with a big name signing. ill repeat what I said, players like Palacios, Kranjcar, Defoe,Hitzelperger even Keane will push us comfortably up the table.
Fife Rover Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 is it just me or is are club which was one of the best run clubs in the country is now becoming the complete opposite and a joke to every other club in the premiership, people looking in must be having a right laugh at the way we are going around are business, I think the supporters deserve answers on which way are club is going and what the future holds AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! OUR...OUR...OUR NOT ARE ARE ARE.
philipl Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 There is a reassuringly large gap between what Rovers offered for Robbie Kean and what Spurs want for him. I would ordinarily say I'd want that gap to stay that way but we are so bereft of striking talent, we could do worse. There is also apparently a cull of coaching staff going on which bodes badly for the future. A case of anything that was here under JW's tenure is automatically considered suspect and has got to be got rid of (probably including some players). This might be a higher priority than the transfer window which opens on Thursday.

More accurate to say who connected with the club doesn't ! It's probably the best barometer of feelings that the club has and it's the equivalent of market research.

Roost Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 To many chiefs and not enough Indians. Too many Indians amd not enough Chiefs??
Fraserkirky Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Diego would make alot of sense for Venkys. Might be the type of guy who would come here for the cash as well. It would be nice if Kean and the Kentaro could get on with spending the budget given to them, whilst the Venkys mess around in their usual fashion trying to get a big name south American, seeing as the budgets are most likely seperate. However, if they get their big target I guess it could effect the 'list'. for example you sign Diego, Piatti would be less of a priority.
philipl Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 they thrive in the self pity and doom and gloom, brian. they are letting their imaginations run away with themselves again. Alternatively, many posters prefer happy delusions. Look at who is posting the warning messages- I have kept off this board deliberately.
