Christ, what is the point in that? We are not going to sign seven players in the window. What are you on? Might as well shove Villa and Rooney in there while you're at it.

thing is we need a new right and left back samba goes we need 2 new centre backs .. all i added to that is a striker and a midfielder.

Why couldnt this team be put together?

We kn ow whats needed why doesnt the owners and manager then?

These are what id call realistic signings villa n rooney is pushing it too far but everyone entitled to their own opinion.

ha ha ha. maybe a little extreme. But I agree that the notion of Essien coming to Rovers is a little farfetched to say the least

rather than everyone on here wishing we had man citys money we should be looking at realistic targets.

Even if we do have £30m to spend we need 5 players at least thats only £6m for each player not much in this market when the likes of Jones are going for £20m.

Now there's a surprise one of the doom merchants saying 'it is rumoured' followed by more guff.

TCO - it is legal correctness, apologies if you don't understand the nuances.

As for doom - the season ended a month ago, the lads report back in less than two weeks' time and so far, what we know for definite, Jones has gone, Samba wants to go (even Mrs D says so), no new contract has been secured with Hoilett and we are yet to make a signing.

Last window we had "judge them at the end of the window", followed by "judge them at the end of the season" and now it's "judge them on 01 Sept".

As many have said, it's time to step up to the plate for Venky's and Stephen Kean.

"They came in all singing and all dancing and yet nothing they have said has come to fruition yet,”. Pretty much the same as you and your transfer to the Mancs then David ya gobshite!

On the contrary, many valid points.

He got his 'big move'. How many games did he play in about 8 years? 50?

David May was a very, very steady player who, IMO, would walk into Rovers' side today.

Spot on...waste of a career to be honest. May epitomises everything that's so wrong about the modern day footballer.

Prostituted himself on the altar of a big wage packet and forgot the idea was to play football along the way.

YD - can you really blame the lad in making himself and family financially secure for life ?

It's interesting as to how many posters have been saying that "money talks" and it doesn't matter even if 'little' Stephen Kean is our manager. Little difference between this statement and what May did except that he went to a 'big' club with a 'big' manager.

I think we should get real - just because we have money doesn't make the club more attractive to players we want to buy. Rovers have always had issues attracting the best talent - even in Jack's day Keane turned down Rovers for United.

The time to judge them is the end of the window - whether we like it or not, many players may view Rovers as a fall back option with teams in playing Europe competition next season etc seen as a better bet. I would rather they take their time and (hopefully) get decent quality players than blow the whole lot of average over-rated players.

Personally I would prefer to see them speculate on young talent - rather than but some over-priced 30 something player (my only exception would be JJ - unless they can unearth a similar up coming talent).

You can't blame him for wanting to look after his family no,but it doesn't have to be money and getting a sore arse sitting on a bench.

There are alternatives..a bit less money,a lot more games played perhaps?

Do you know Mercerman,he made the staggering sum of 12 appearances for Utd in his final 4 seasons and no,he wasn't injured.

I stick by my comment...a sad waste of a career.

The irony is he won more league medals than Shearer but we all know who'll live longer in footballing folklore don't we...

I think the problem is you are prejudging the future. What people want you to do is judge them at the end of the season to see how the signings went. Santa Cruz flopped, J Jones was very good, and we saw a promising youngster for the future a few times. Some said judge at the end of the window, but that would be silly. Nobody knows how the players will perform. You can sign a player who looks amazing but isn't good. You can sign someone you think is past it or who has failed elsewhere and they can come up with the goods.

You are free to make your judgements on what has happened so far, and of course you will no doubt carry on doing regardless, but Venky's have done a decent job so far for newcomers in my eyes. There have been teething problems of course, but there have been small victories too. June 21st 2011 is not the time to make rash judgements on whether they have stepped up to the plate when it comes to the future of this club, that is all people are saying. There isn't simply a time to judge which is continually in front of us, it's just that you seem to be judging the future before it has happened as opposed to what is actually happening.
