Maybe (shock horror) the club are trying to keep a fair bit of their dealings out of the press in an attempt to negate interest from other clubs. By throwing around financial figures and lists of potential targets we essentially show our hands a bit too early and lose possible negotiating power. Silence from the club at present is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes other clubs may be pushing forward with signings, however do we really want players like Seb Larsson or do we as fans feel we can do better? We need to climb the ladder rather than rush straight to the top, but at the same time we don't want to continually move sideways.

At present we are working largely from rumours. Rumours are not equal to fact.

Marseille have agreed fee and terms with Nkoulou who we were linked to by the media.

They will be going for Alou Diarra next.

Watch our decent targets go one by one now...

Who linked those targets though?? Was it a reliable source that actually had a clue who we were after? Pretty sure neither were Nickos.

How do you know this guy was a decent target? He could have been right near the bottom of the list.. and we have only been linked with him?

Nkoulou was on LT. Diarra was Kamy.

If you watch Ligue 1, you will know both are at the very least decent targets. Nkoulou with a great future ahead of him. Diarra is the French captain and a very good defensive midfielder.

From LT:

"A source close to Cisse told the Lancashire Telegraph yesterday the player would be keen on a move to Rovers but, with “top club from one of the best leagues in Europe” also interested, warned time was running out."

C'mn Rovers--do it, the guy wants to come here! :tu:

We could, and should, do better than both of them.

Given that we have a top accountancy firm working for us, surely a representative from them would be on the panel in an advisory capacity?

You're still thinking when we used to do things sensibly Mum................BIG mistake.

Did we make an inquiry about Ade?? I mean why would he say Blackburn or Zenit anyway? That shows ambition from Rovers even if we can't sign him....were interested in big big players...

Does preseason training start today?

adebayor was real lucky that madrid loaned him last year and he had that good game against spurs, otherwise he would be in the same scrapheap as Jo,Caciedo,Bellamy and RSC.Good luck, I dont see Real taking you back. Disruptive and Moody.

reserves and youth start today

seniors start on Saturday and fly to Austria for one week on sunday

on the Adebayor link let leave that one i am sure there is bigger fish to fry

Cisse's agent has made it public he would like to be wearing the blue and white next season now it's up to the club to make it happen.. even if he is 1 of 2 or 3 signings i will be very happy but keeping an open mind

But Fife, these are business people. I understand they are new at football, but that is why Kentaro is advising them and they have brought in a new Deputy CEO who is a football man and young and enthusiastic. We have also been told that we have a new accountant - one of the best names - so perhaps they could be accused of being too sensible? The squad needs an overhaul if they want to move up a step - as a few of them have seen their best years (sadly) so there is an awful lot to consider.

Possibly too many cooks but surely no more than the old Board discussing transfers?

im fed up of this whole debacle now, just when venkys start making people beleive in them, they then go back to square one with this whole sorry affair. Its time for someone to sit up and tak charge before we lose out on all the best players. If we end up with B signings then my faith in them will be completely gone.

E Diouf was crucial in some of the games for us since Sam took over and there was a period where he was our best player. M Diouf chipped in with a fair number of goals as well. Santa Cruz was gash. Phil Jones was absolutely crucial to our good results both under Sam and under Kean. I'm pretty sure we lost very few games where he pleyd in. J Jones was arguably the best player in the latter half of last season as well.

Nelsen, Dunn, Salgado and Emerton are aging. All of them have been absolutely massive for us in the past few seasons at different times. The only good players we're really left with (if Samba leaves) are Robinson, Givet, Olsson, Hoilett and N'zonzi. That's nowhere near good enough to build a strong team around.

By the way, I would argue that Olsson actually began to flourish under Sam who nurtured his talents as an attacking player by playing him on the wing (something that previous managers had failed to do).

So what's the point? We went through all these changes as a club and as a team just to stay on the same spot? To fight against relegation, season after season? This would be a massive step back, in fact. If I'm not wrong, we've had FIVE top 10 finishes in the last SEVEN seasons. The 2 seasons where we failed this feat being the ones where the solid foundations of the club were shaken by inexperienced managers.

I'll agree that JJones was excellent for us. None of what you've said though changes my view that for the coming season we should still be strong enough to finish in the league above 18th. I said with the current squad...that includes Samba. Till he's gone he's the club's player obviously. If he goes then we need a defender who shouldn't be too hard to replace with someone who is at the very least an average premiership defender. I also agree that half the squad is getting on. But half the squad is young as you've said and we have an actual attacking threat, something which has been our main problem under Allardyce (not necessarily saying he's at fault here).

It's beside the point if they do bring in players anyway which i'm sure they will. There isn'[t any point in standing still and i'm sure Venkys don't want that.

My point was that our current squad aint half bad as something to build on, especially if we can keep hold of Samba and Hoilett. Certainly better than Championship standard anyway.
