LeChuck Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Michael Carrick? ..... Seem to remember that he had fallen out of favour at Old Trafford. I think Nicko would have built the story up a bit more if he was sitting on that one! It would be an amazing signing. It will be a solid PL but nothing more, the clues are obviously pointing towards that. Have people learnt nothing from the "Mr X." summer that turned out to be Franco di Santo?

gumboots Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Rather him than Dingle's McCann. He's supposed to be on his way, to Bolton I think. May have already gone whilst I was on holiday though and I missed it, given that Burnley news is never reported any more really. Yet again - there's no mention from Mr Nixon in his original post of his being local

67splitscreen Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Surprised noone has mentioned Adam, or have they, everyone assuming he's going to pool I guess. Taarabt would also slot into our MF, then again most players would.
den Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Di Santo could have been decent under the right management. We set him back about two years. Ah right. That would be the same way that we've ruined Kalinic.
Mercer Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Hope it's not Kewell or Hargreaves as suggested by some - don't think we'd get too much game time from them and, IMO, both are a busted flush.
braddock Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Ah right. That would be the same way that we've ruined Kalinic. I only said decent. He's not gonna be a world beater. We definitely ruined Di Santo though. Kalinic had it tough too and would have never made it under Allardyce, but now he's on the other side he needs to prove himself. The real test now is his mental strength, not his ability. He clearly has enough ability to be a decent striker in the Prem already.
Mattyblue Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 We (ie Allardyce in your bitter mind) ruined Di Santo how exactly?
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Di Santo will never cut it in this division. Allardyce gave him ample opportunities and he showed nothing. Kalinic has also had plenty of chances and never taken them. He has a nice touch but isnt quick or strong enough. Won't be a loss if he left. 2 years and not done anything. Can't defend him any more.
dubdubdub Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Here's hoping it is Park! Must...stay...positive. I doubt it very much. Whilst he's not held in the highest regard by the general public (in the sense he's not a household name over here), I think every fan of football recognises how great a player he is. This kind of goes against Nicko's opinion that he's not so widely acclaimed.

Bit harsh on Kalinic there I think. He doesn't have the attributes to play as a lone striker but that is how he has played the overwhelming majority of his games. I think he is a decent prem player and worth keeping. He isn't amazing though, if he left this summer I'd be a little disappointed but not too concerned.
Athlete Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Ah right. That would be the same way that we've ruined Kalinic. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/9095556.Kalinic_to_hold_talks_to_determine_Rovers_future/?ref=mr read the comments....most fans think hes a much better option than any of the other forwards we have including brown nose useless Roberts
dubdubdub Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 We (ie Allardyce in your bitter mind) ruined Di Santo how exactly? He had hime playing in the role all great strikers love best. The 'headless chicken' (no Venky jokes) role. All good strikers bang 'em in from the corner flag.
Mattyblue Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Right, so his struggles at Wigan were also down to Allardyce? Do me a favour.
Kjell Sindre Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Agreed dubdubdub. I was just responding to this 'we have money now' post. It all sounds like Vaughan to me, and I'm fairly happy about it to be honest.
Roverite28 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Surprised noone has mentioned Adam, or have they, everyone assuming he's going to pool I guess. Taarabt would also slot into our MF, then again most players would. Think Adam is liverpool bound, if not i see one of the other 'bigger' teams picking him up. In all honesty i dont rate him as highly as most, very much a luxery who needs a side built around him. Taarabt is another one, imo he will get raped in the prem. The amount of times he tries flicks and skill on the edge of his own box was shocking, in the prem it will lead to goals. He needs to learn when to turn on the skill. Would be chuffed with either Vaughen or Gardner, but i see Gardner too much in the mould of JJ.
braddock Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Right, so his struggles at Wigan were also down to Allardyce? Do me a favour. He joined a relegation threatened team with his nerves shot. If he'd come to a decent club from Chelsea instead of Allardyce FC things may have panned out differently. Maybe not, but he certainly had no chance this way.
den Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Right, so his struggles at Wigan were also down to Allardyce? Do me a favour. Hee Hee. Unbelievable Jeff.

'Allardyce FC', 'decent club', I mean honestly. Don't like his style of football? Fine, but as a motivator, a man manager? He is renowned for it. Di Santo is a striker that can't score goals in the PL.
dubdubdub Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Right, so his struggles at Wigan were also down to Allardyce? Do me a favour. Still a relegation threatened squad who don't exactly score their fair share. Rodallega doesn't exactly do great there and he's a regular starter. See Boselli also.

Fine, but as a motivator, a man manager? He is renowned for it. Di Santo is a striker that can't score goals in the PL. Allardyce has only ever managed Allardyce FC. West Ham being the new incarnation. I don't regard him as a Rovers manager. It was just the years we became Sam Allardyce. Di Santo may yet fail, but his task was made much harder when he fell into the orbit of Fat Sams waistline and had he joined a mid table team like Sunderland who scored a few goals that season, things may well look differently for him.
dhughes07 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I have said this before, but Ferguson told my mate that Hargreaves would never play again about 6 months ago. Would love (the old) him, if he was to get fit, however i just cant see it. Think we will have to patient in this market as deals are usually done in order of club stature, hopefully with a bit more money now we have moved up a level. Key to our success is to get a goal scorer an all-round midfielder and replace the center backs if Samba goes.
mark1875 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 even playing two up front when di santo was about it was evident he a was poor. fulham away in 2009 was when i first realised he couldn't finish. he will never be a goalscorer at this level. his ability 1v1 is awful. his goal to game ratio must be shocking?
dubdubdub Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 well exactly. You're either agreeing with me or being petty there so take your pick. I don't care either way. Fact of the matter is that Chelsea saw potential in him but he hasn't been used in the right squad or system to get the best out of him. I'd like to see any striker do well under Allsy's setup.
