I think Olsson at left back, with a proper attacking left winger infront would be deadly – as they could overlap.

I never feel easy with Olsson at left-back. Like Bale, I think his talents are better served upfield.

And it will be easier to find a decent full-back than it will a winger.

With what he has learned since leaving us in terms of defensive skills, imagine what Duffer & Ollson could do down our left hand side!!

That was exactly what I was going to suggest!

Not sure how settled Duff is in London, but i'd bring him back. Would be a good utility man for left and right sides if we are going to get rid of EHD.

We have lost P Jones, are losing Samba, J Jones is not certain to be signing and MGP is likely to go. Three of January's four signings have been underwhelming suggesting the sort of ratio of failure to success JA showed at City is continuing at Rovers.

Unfortunately, we also have a manager who couldn't attract a fly to excrement when it comes to pulling the sort of coups his two predecessors managed when we were competing for signings.

So far as I am concerned, we have got to become good enough to survive in the Prem first. For all the big transfer numbers available we are weaker than we were on 22 May and about to get significantly weaker. It is far from certain we can put together a squad capable of staying up under a rookie manager who turned safety into a last day escape from relegation.

Arguing to the contrary is getting carried away with hope over reality.

You're saying Ince pulled of 'coups' in the transfer market.......?? Really...???

Kean's had one window. In that he pulled out J.Jones - a success, Rochina - a success, Formica - unproven and Santa - a flop. So on that basis you have decided that he cannot sign a decent player? Get a grip. I know you want this all to fall apart and Im sure the Rao's were sat in all the wrong positions in many of our home league games last season but please, wait until things actually start happening before you start judging people. Anyway, lets face it, your track record in that department is hardly glittering....

The summer window should provide more opportunities to sign quality though hopefully.

Overall January’s signings were OK – Jermaine Jones was the only one to make a real impact however Rochina will come good IMO (looks very promising).

Considering this is the working model Venky’s want, and taking into account we have a rookie manager, it might help having SEM/Kentaro providing guidance on transfer targets.

Woo hoo Philip is back…. :o

Such an over the top statement……

FACT – we have only lost Phil Jones, who is when everyone is fit, 3rd choice central defender. Yes we have lost our loan players, but that is always the case until you make them permanent (give it time)

Yes Samba & MGP may be attracting interest but nothing suggests either will be allowed to leave unless its right for the club. AT THE MOMENT – both are still with the club.

GIVE IT TIME!

Haven't you for the past 3 summer, been saying we will go down the following season? How many shirts with Goulon, Bastürk, M.B. Diouf, Berner and Rigters on the back do you have? It wasn't exactly 100% success rate with transfers under the previous regimes either. Oh, and I forgot we spent £6m on the goal machine that is Kalinic.

Oops I had blanked Ince from my memory.

Trying to blank Kean as well.

As for P Jones not getting into the Rovers side when all players are fit... la la land Hughesy.

Hughey in la la land?

I thought you would be grateful for the company.

So Phil Jones plays centre back when Nelsen & Samba are both fit???

Good old Hughesy.

Jones was a big part of our squad. Our run of slightly better form, coincided with Jone's return from injury. Either in midfield or at Centre half. He's gone, he could be a big miss. To argue that he wouldn't be in the team is just being biased.

I'm pleased that if anyone leaves it will be for the right price. The reason being in the terminology itself. 'Right price'. Everyone has their price, and whatever people on here think somebody is worth, the likelihood is that there are so many factors to be taken into account that affect that price that people won't know about. At the end of the day though, when a player wants to leave his valuation goes down. That is the way it goes. And in my book, if a player adamantly wants to leave then it is usually best to allow that and get the best possible price for them. Player power can be depressing but that's the way it is and it's pointless moaning. Better for them to leave then we can move on than unsettle the team and leave it too late to bring in replacements.

He was first choice defensive midfielder alongside JJones. He was not first choice central defender when Samba and Nelsen were fit. He may have been this season but due to his flexibility he was used in midfield last season.

Next season he would have. Jones was as good as any of the options we have at CB currently, and unless he gets a major injury will be a better player than Samba and Nelsen by a long way. But he has gone now and it's time to move on.

Losing MGP wouldn't be a loss, take away the decent form he showed years ago and look at what he offers as a player now and its not enough. If we can sell we should take the opportunity.

Never said he wouldn't get in the team, I'm talking about defence, nothing biased about that.

Our better form coincided with Junior & J Jones form I believe.

Hughesy, if we had thirty thousand fans like you, Rovers would be a force to be reckoned with. You do have this thing though, about backing everything Blue and White while it's at Ewood, and then criticising it when it's left.

This.

Anyone got an opinion on going back for Marc Janko? Seems to have continued his scoring success to FC Twente, quite an incredible goal record the guy has.
