Got to say this is the best window for some time. Where it all ends up, nobody knows. But there are some goings on.

Just as an update - and for a check list you can cut out and keep...I think this is the check list that is being filled.

STRIKER - a massive one if possible...probably a record fee...Vucinic top of that lost until he goes elsewhere...some alternatives being looked into...but a lot of elite clubs want this calibre of target.

YOUNG STRIKER - a few 'emerging' players being studied...after all you need more than one class attacker.

LEFT WINGER - definitely on the wish list...got a name but [see above] there are others after him.

CENTRE HALF - Miranda still a possible...if not it would be a big-money deal and the signs are that the big dough is being saved for the main striker.

MIDFIELD - still no second confirmation on the Prem player I like...starting to think he is one of several being researched right now...we shall see...there could yet be TWO midfielders depending on exits.

RIGHT BACK - a surprise to me, but there is a target...and it will hopefully be out in the morning.

If that's not enough for you, then I don't know what is.

I think there will be SIX in at least and I will predict here and now that around £45 to £50 million will be spent.

Quite happy to stick my neck out on that after the vibes picked up over the past 48 hours.

Jeez Nicko.....what are the whingers going to moan about now!

No Way did they beat me to it!

It all sounds promising but I will feel a bit comfier once the big one (a top striker) is landed. We don't want a repeat of the Kalinic fiasco in which all our targets go one by one and we are left with the runt of the litter.

If Gyan really was for sale he would be my ideal target, wages wouldn't be as much as an Adebayor and he will score goals.

Wow! Thanks for the info as always, Nicko! Exciting times!

Not often you hear the words 'elite' and 'rovers' in the same sentence when regarding transfers...

Highlight of that bit of news for me is that they don't seem to have tunnel vision, as there are targets across the squad.

Right back is definitely going to need somebody within a year or so. Who knows how long Salgado will go, and it seems Emo is getting a little antsy about going back to Australia.

This also shows that they aren't just looking for quick fixes, either (get a right back in now to mesh with the team and learn a little from salgado, and also the young striker bit)

Now that I have landed back down to earth again, I genuinely hope that we get the players that we want.

We have needed this type of investment for years. £30 million would be enough for me, but £50 million- wow. Rovers with a £50 million war chest- the last time I saw a headline like that was when The Great One 'Uncle Jack' was in charge.

I agree, Oliver- clearly Olsson's best position is left midfield. Right back should be a youngster, personally I would be happy to see Emerton play there when Salgado is out. Would love to see Jermaine Jones sign, ideally alongside Nicko's midfield name - Stilian Petrov, Palacios, Anderson, Denilson?? - and certainly at least one striker. One star signing and a youngster sounds great, but the one big name can help us immensely alongside Rochina, Roberts, Kalinic og even Santa Cruz.

Would you say we are still in for J Jones and Santa Cruz, or have we moved on, Nicko?

Jesus Christ

Plusses: Bit of a miracle worker, can build a team around him. Waterlogged pitches dont affect him.

Minuses: Not good at crosses, passed his prime, occassionally goes missing.

(My guess, not a statement of frustration)

Oh...damn.

I think kean sees ollson as more of a left wing back. Somebody that complements the left winger.

I still think back to the days of dalglish where le saux used to overlap from left back and we had real balance on the wings and a solid midfield. i don't see a problem with olsson over lapping from left back we are still in need of 2 wingers who can CROSS the ball or pick out a striker with a ball (hole in that area since bentley left).
