We still need to convince "top players" to sign for us! No matter how much we have it all depends on us attracting players! Can we do this? This is the next question!

Isnt there already £20m + sloshing around at Ewood? + the Phil Jones fee?

IF Samba goes, id hope we see at least 7-8 players (2 defenders, full back, 2 midfielders, winger, 2 strikers)

Surely only a buffoon would believe we are ready to spend 45-50m.

Too many "my dad's mate's brother's cousin, who's mum works with Ryan Nelsens chiropodist" stories in this forum,

If your going to start a rumour, surely use the tried and trusted British media standard equation (1+1=1121231)

For example;

I see a summer move to the North West for Eduardo da Silva... Formerly of Arsenal.

I remember similar sentiments around the time Jack bought the club. Wait and see.

I think there will be SIX in at least and I will predict here and now that around £45 to £50 million will be spent.

Quite happy to stick my neck out on that after the vibes picked up over the past 48 hours.

.. we have spent 69m in the last 8 years (and sold 83mm more than that).. all of a sudden we have way more than half that available in one summer.. scared, very very scared...Kean might be young but he aint a villa boas or special one.

Exciting and scary at the same time, Nicko is often on the ball with his contacts so this one is rather frightening to say the least, talk about make or break for the club.

45-50 million. thanks for that nicko i have'nt laughed like that in a long time. ive seen some crap posted on this board in the last 6 months but that takes the biscuit and whats even funnier is people believe it.

Sod off dingle..you only joined the board about 2 minutes ago.

A potential way we could have £50 million:

£10 million original transfer budget.

Sales of Jones, Samba and Kalanic = £35 million

Whereas in the past the trust used income from transfers to reduce debt, Venky's allow Kean to spend every penny raised from sales.

The alternative is that they are pumping in transfer fund from their own money or from borrowing.

IIRC didn't BPF allude to a payment made by Venkys to BRFC a few months ago circa £20 million in case of relegation. He seemed to think that Kean would be getting those funds, plus any generated (which obviously now includes Jones and potentially Samba). Chuck in a departing Kalinic and that would be at least £50 million.

Assuming the midfielder coming in is if Pedersen goes out, plus about £10m for us from Samba joining Arsenal/Spurs, and the £25m ish we've already got between the maximum budget for this season and the sale of Jones, it seems like we're on our way to the biggest rebuild of the squad in a long time. "Funded by player sales" makes it seem much more negative than it really is, it's not like we're forcing a clear out of valuable assets.

Posted

I hope someone else remembers this, but I vaguely remember hearing that Venky's would invest their own money? I may be dreaming but heard something of this nature.

However, I think it shows the intent of the owners, onward and upwards.

Wasn't that to buy a marquee?

Wasn't that to buy a marquee?

yeah, that's what I was getting at earlier. They never got their big marquee, and the brothers seem like the kind that don't stop until they've gotten what they want. How many cars do they have again? Just sell a few of them to fund our summer transfers!

Cautiously optimistic based on Nicko's track record. However, before we all get carried away translating targets and intent into reality will be the hard part, especially if everyone is after quality. It does make a nice change though to be at the start of a window thinking we might actually be in the mix for once rather than feeding on scraps

I keep seeing this said by people, but can someone actually elaborate on what nicko's track record actually is?

Good luck for Benjani unless he joins a team I dislike or his performances affect us negatively. Did a job for us. Was limited only by his fitness, not mentally.

Best of luck to ol' Benj'. He wasn't the worst I've ever seen play for us. He was smashing for a time at Portsmouth before injuries and bench splinters at Citeh took their toll. The brace against 'Pool made me smile for a week.

It will be important to bring in the right mix of players.

As long as half the signings are young 'up and coming' talent we should be ok.

Agree with some others that the lad Piatti at Almeria ar around £7 mil fits the left winger/upcoming striker bill perfectly. Definitley the type of player you oculd get 4/5 x his value back if he has a couple of good seasons in the prem.

As talented as Vucivic is the reported £18 mil fee is way too much. When the link initially broke it was around £10 mil... hope we don't over pay. Papa Cisse a cheaper and younger option. As an up and coming striker the Brazillian Damiao would be a good shout for the English game - Not your typical Brazillian striker at 6ft1.

Personally think that midfield is still the crux of our problems. Haven't seen another player that would suit us more than Charlie Adam. Are Liverpool still after him now they signed Henderson?

Rest of the signings could be less high profile or frees.

That level of player mixed with our current squad would be very exciting.

A little gutted about Benjani leaving, his role as a fifth striker at the club next season was never in doubt. A class professional with a cracking personality and a truly unselfish nature. He might not have been the best player we've ever seen, but a true gent in his own right.

Good luck Mr. Mwaruwaru, all the best for the future...

Absolutely spot on WWWM. I doubt we could get him with other clubs involved but all it takes it one decent pay cheque offer. He would make a huge difference to our game next season alone, without bringing in any others (other than to replace those who left).

HA HA I love his last name, truly awesome......sign him up for another year!

We need a ball-winner (hopefully JJ) and a playmaker. Formica's untried at this level and Dunn's on his last legs. It would be nice to have more options there.
