We need a ball-winner (hopefully JJ) and a playmaker. Formica's untried at this level and Dunn's on his last legs. It would be nice to have more options there.

Why not change that photo eh Topman, unless you're a 13 year old boy, then fair enough it's your hormones.

With O'hara going from Villa to Wolves, is there someone at wolves that might fit into our side in the middle. Can't think of anyone I'd want off hand, but one never knows.

Doyle? Milijas ain't too bad for a central midfielder. Berra as a center back?

But these past few days, Wolves have been talking quite optimistically too. Not European optimistic, but still.

People may not like this line, but if the money is from Venky's, then so be it. But if it is from the banks - then God help the club. The club does not have 40 to 50 mill to spend on new players - even if they sold the not wanted ones. I would hate the club to go broke at the expence of short term success. This money must come from venkys themselves.

Was there not some 20m+ put into our account around the time the mortgage details broke. Maybe that was just cash to see us to the end of the season, really don't know, I'm sure others would.

Correct. They even said that when Venkys bought the club, they did so using icici bank and not from their own pockets. That in it itself should makes us all a bit cautious about this transfer speculation.

i do not know how to post links. But type forbes into google, venkys into the forbes search bar and read for yourselves. But others will of course call it scaremongering.

Thus the reason I've wanted the supporters to just remain calm when linked with Adebayor, who will gladly take £80k a week.

Good luck to Bejani. I enjoyed his personality. He'd probably score for fun in the Championship. What odds he ends up at West 'am?

Are you sure mate?

Just to break down the spending I expect - while avoiding giving too many clues - here goes...

MAIN STRIKER - the targets currently being investigated are going to cost between £15 and £20 million. You will only sign one of those. This is where the big dough will go. And quite rightly too.

OTHER STRIKER - possibly in the £7 to £10 million range.

LEFT WINGER - the one you are hottest on just now is around £6 to £7 million.

CENTRE HALF - hopefully free.

MIDFIELDER - a good one...and those under discussion are...would be valued at £5 million. I think you will sign two at roughly that cost.

RIGHT BACK - the one you are in for will be in the £3 to £4 million range...was hoping Mirror would name him but there has been a lot going on elsewhere so that may have got squeezed...big clue - he's Russian.

So that comes to £41-ish [cheapest] to £51-ish [more expensive].

You already have the Jones money, the Venkys money and quite probably more from other exits.

So I will say again. To land the SIX or so you want will be in the £45 to £50 million bracket.

Bear in mind that most fees are staggered over the length of the contract. You don't need to go to the pawn shop to pull this off.

If you do it this will have been some summer.

Anyukov!?

.. we have spent 69m in the last 8 years (and sold 83mm more than that).. all of a sudden we have way more than half that available in one summer.. scared, very very scared...Kean might be young but he aint a villa boas or special one.

Exciting and scary at the same time, Nicko is often on the ball with his contacts so this one is rather frightening to say the least, talk about make or break for the club.

"make or break"-that's exactly how I feel. And it is scary!

All talk and speculation is just that until something actually happens.

We'll let the actions speak louder than the tabloid rumours...

****ABBEY sits back and watches the nickoteens ejaculate over the keyboard*****

i will still sit firmly on the fence.

Whatever floats your boat!

Adam Johnson??? (Dream world)

Miranda

Yuri Zhirkov? Or is he a left back?

ahahaha mate you have to be joking. Not for a second do I believe that Venkys even have that money, and more importantly I can't think of a single 5m+ player (that is actually worth the money, not the ridiculously overpriced deals that have been happening lately) that would be willing to play for us.

If you are good at this sport, you do not go and play for some nincompoop for a manager and a team that barely avoided relegation.

Signing a player like Adebayor on big money isn't neccessarily a huge gamble. Lets face it we have an awful amount of deadwood on the books. Get EH Diouf and say J Roberts - or Pedersen- or Grella off the wage bill and I bet you'd have a large chunk of £80k there. An 'Adebayor type signing' would bring much more to the party than any of those 2 combined.

Even better would be bringing someone like Adebayor on a loan with a view.

Don't get me wrong - we can't sustain paying 5-6 players that kind of money but I certainly think as a 'one off' figurehead type signing - the salary should be sustainable providing the squad is culled accordingly.

Caveat: WWWM does not for one minute believe that Adebayor would choose to play for litttle ol' overs.

Can't be Anjukov, so must be Shishkin?

Are we targetting a CB to replace Jones or do the club feel Hanley will suceed him. Basically is the Cb signing only happening if Samba goes?

Understand what you're saying. I just don't think having one player on so much money and the rest on, say 50% and less, is good for the dressing room. :(

Removing Pedersen from the payroll would be an excellent move, given I feel he's a liability now. Giving the ball away way too much and his inept defensive ability. If we could find someone the replace him on the left wing that wouldn't mind going back to cover for Olsson when he ventures forward, that'd be ideal.

A little gutted about Benjani leaving, his role as a fifth striker at the club next season was never in doubt. A class professional with a cracking personality and a truly unselfish nature. He might not have been the best player we've ever seen, but a true gent in his own right.

Good luck Mr. Mwaruwaru, all the best for the future...

Brilliant post and I echo it fully. Seems like a top guy and personally I'd like him to stay.

That list Nicko posted is insane if half of it came off. Normally we are amazed with one signing around £5m.

We need to get moving I feel and one decent move could get it all in flow.

Cheers TCO, I'd be amazed if we spent over ten million this summer. Even with Nicko's often reliable sources, it's very hard to truly understand and grasp what's in front of us if he's correct. You just wonder what success Hughes could have brought to the club if he was given that sort of budget. Fingers very firmly crossed though...

While Zhirkov IS a left-back, it'd be ace to have him here, given he's really good, AND a Blackburn fan. :D

And yes, I agree, he is good! Although I think he prefers to play more as a winger.
