If this is all true and we do have £50m to spend I am presuming this includes the sale of Samba to Arsenal and most probably Kalinic too. We can forget poaching players from Europe's top clubs as many of you keep mentioning and focus more on clubs who have been relegated or have failed to get into 'Europe' as it were.

I would be looking at Guardado from Depor and Poli from Sampdoria. If we don't manage to sign Jones then Poli's team mate Polombo may be worth a go. Lots and lots of players available accros the board so hopefully someone at Rovers knows what they are doing and the money gets invested wisely.

Steven Defour would be a good shout from Belgium.

I'm a little curious of the interest in left wingers. We have Olsson, Pedersen, Hoilett, Rochina and El Hadj Diouf who can all play there. EHD is probs a cert to leave. I suppose Olsson may be pegged to go back to left back. If that's the case I suppose the idea will be to sell Pedersen to make space.

You do have to wonder if the new player coming in is a replacement for Hoilett though. I will feel so much better about it when he signs a new deal.

And outlaying big money on strikers is a great to hear of. I suppose we will be looking at Mr X, Mr Y, Roberts and Rochina as the strike force with Kalinic leaving.

Also - I wonder if Samba will be looking at our targets and think it might be worth hanging around and seeing what happens....?

Don't get why people are so astonished by the 45mill rumoured budget.

10mill original budget+20mill (Jones)+ say 13 (Samba) and a couple of others.

As much as I like Anyukov as a player I hope its not him as he's 28 going on 29 and if we're going to buy a right back we may as well buy a much younger one.

It's either him Roman Shishkin, Sergei Parshivlyuk or at a stretch Kirill Kombarov (can we sign the other brother too ^_^ )

You do have to wonder if the new player coming in is a replacement for Hoilett though. I will feel so much better about it when he signs a new deal.

Have to agree Joey. Getting Junior to put pen to paper on a new contract is vitally important to any possible success in the near future.

  • Hoilett is right footed, so either right wing or in the hole/ 2nd striker
  • Rochina is 2nd striker position
  • Olsson can play left back or left wing
  • EHD is past it and hopefully will move on
  • MGP out of favour so surely listen to offers?

I know The Piatti discussion was the other day and someone said he had signed a 'pre contract agreement'. but could it be the winger is him? £7mill is what has been banded about as his asking price? praying it's him although i fear there may be no answer

I would also add even though it seems a bit pie in the sky why don't see have a go at trying to sign Zhirkov? He's admitted he was a Blackburn fan as a kid and he wants to move on from Chelsea.

Fair enough its obviously all about money these days but if our owners want to make a "marquee" signing as it were than why not go for a more realistic option such as Zhirkov?

OK, so the agents are having a field day getting our resident football reporter very excited.

So if it's all true it's time for Venky's to show this......

Otherwise it's a case of this......

Spot on. And I'm well in favour of Poli and Palombo. One's a promising, young creative midfielder, and the other's a dominant, tough tackler. And they're both of a relegated club.

Interestingly we seem to only be looking at one center back if Nicko is right.. that would be a Jones replacement imo not a Samba replacement.

Left winger is a suprise, looks def like Peders days are numbered. Second striker must mean bye bye to Kalinic, EHD def seems out of here and would not be suprised to see Andrews shipped to someone like wham.

Looks like an interesting month ahead, surely there are top class strikers available and willing to come to Blackburn in those brackets.

Oddest thing this time is the range of figures Nicko is quoting, looks like a comprehensive list with fixed ranged figures and maybe a new club contact for mr Nicko (can't remember Nicko ever giving us a full list like that).

Plusses: Bit of a miracle worker, can build a team around him. Waterlogged pitches dont affect him.

Minuses: Not good at crosses, passed his prime, occassionally goes missing.

Oh...damn.

you sir owe me the cost of cleaning my laptop screen, but that was the funniest thing ive read on here in ages so ill let u off. AND 50 MIL PHEW ITS GONNA BE A MAD SUMMER>

I think there will be SIX in at least and I will predict here and now that around £45 to £50 million will be spent.

Quite happy to stick my neck out on that after the vibes picked up over the past 48 hours.

This is very exciting and could transform the club if spent well.

i will still sit firmly on the fence.

Ditto. Seeing is believing.

If this come to fruition wonderful. I can see the naysayers turning in their sleep at the mere thought that it might happen. Then what? Oh yeah, just wait for the season to start and Kean to mess it up. This could be fun with more in fighting than ever. Very exciting if any of it does come off.

enjoy the once in a decade spending spree....

We've had two massive spending sprees in the past 20 years.

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/transfer-fees-v-league-positions/premier-league-1997-2002.html

The first ended in being Champions and earning a fortune from selling on those players whilst the second ended in relegation and big losses incurred through over paying for poor players.

The difference being down to the manager(s). So how do we all feel? Still as excited are we?

btw useful site find that.

The proof will be on the 1st of September when we review who we have signed, the question being, if they splash the cash and bring in the players, will you come on here and admit you were wrong or will you go to ground.

Are we taking bets on this one

It's a good point. If we are going to spend so much then let's hope Venky's faith in the manager is well founded. The last few weeks of the season were more encouraging but it's hard to feel convinced by Kean.

I would be more happy if there were signs that we were getting the structure of the club right. If we are keeping Kean then we need to get a Chairman or DoF in above him and he is going to need decent staff working alongside him. Who is negotiating Hoilett's contract by the way?

With no one at the top now that Finn and Williams have gone then I worry about the value we will get on any incoming transfers. Are the extra wages going to be sustainable without Champions League football? It's hard to see how...

I'll be happy if we sign a few good players, but I'd rather they stabalised the club first...

The £50m transfer "budget" is hard to fathom on the surface, but if Venkys, who are business people first, want their asset to grow rapidly and gain value, they surely know they will have to sink a good bit of money into the club. Whether it's their money or it comes from selling players, I'm confident there will be significant investment. The trick lies in not overpaying for a player for the sake of getting him, and possibly creating a domino effect for the rest of the summer's signings. We need multiple players, not one big signing.

Agreed with moodonthepitch - we do not need to spend 15-20 million for a marquee striker. What we should be looking at are a pair of strikers with decent (World-class is too much an ask) pedigrees that would complement each other. Oscar Cardozo 10m + raiding West Brom for Peter Odemwingie are suggestions.
