We have lost P Jones, are losing Samba, J Jones is not certain to be signing and MGP is likely to go. Three of January's four signings have been underwhelming suggesting the sort of ratio of failure to success JA showed at City is continuing at Rovers.

Unfortunately, we also have a manager who couldn't attract a fly to excrement when it comes to pulling the sort of coups his two predecessors managed when we were competing for signings.

So far as I am concerned, we have got to become good enough to survive in the Prem first. For all the big transfer numbers available we are weaker than we were on 22 May and about to get significantly weaker. It is far from certain we can put together a squad capable of staying up under a rookie manager who turned safety into a last day escape from relegation.

Arguing to the contrary is getting carried away with hope over reality.

You seem to post these days in hope of creating a reaction, rather than providing any substance or rational thinking to situations, sad really philipl, you’re much better than that.

Not wanting to go over old ground but the Jones signing practically kept us in this league, not bad for a rookie manager wouldn’t you say.

As for our current position, the season only finished 4wks ago, ringing the bells of doom at this stage is silly, we’ve never done our business by 20th June ever, so sit tight and see what happens.

You can land a few cheap shots now, but you may just find yourself on the ropes in the coming weeks.

Never said he wouldn't get in the team, I'm talking about defence, nothing biased about that.

Our better form coincided with Junior & J Jones form I believe.

Hmmm.... You are a bit of a disciple of reinterpreting the facts after the event Hughesy....it is worth pointing out that Nelsen who you are now saying is a better defender than Jones you used to describe as ‘finished’ and ‘dog poop’ and you used to enthusiastically call for the Admiral to be dropped and Jones instated.

Bottom line is Phil Jones despite being only 19 was our best defender and also, until we got J Jones, our best central midfielder. There is no way of sugar coating that, he is a massive loss. We are however, as you are pointing out, gifted to have three more very good centre backs in Samba, Givet and Nelsen and also apparently a big talent in Hanley coming through. So it isn’t that bad really. We are also 16m pounds richer so it really comes down to how we invest that...

It's neither a particualrly positive or depressing story, we just have to wait and see what happens.

I am posting on the basis of getting feet firmly back on the ground in terms of what our transfer priorities are this summer.

Firstly, we need to have a squad good enough to stay up without a relegation struggle. Somehow we have to replace the two players who were the best on the park for us at the end of last season> Phil Jones and Chris Samba.

That is a huge task.

I don't think we'll lose Samba anyway. Venkys will say if a 19 year old costs 20m there is no way our captain is worth less than 15m and stick to their guns. Being stubborn has paid off already for them once. I can't see Wenger paying 15m for Samba

It is the first move coming from Spurs which is the worry.

Hoilett and J.Jones were just as important...

And also, i hate this talk of 'who can steve kean attract etc etc', it makes no difference whatsoever, its all about money. If we offer more we will get the player, simple as that.

Suggestions Seville & Atletico are on about taking Ji-Sung Park from United for £7m, we should wade in there and try to pinch him – he is seriously under-rated, and has a fantastic engine – he never stops, and scores his fair share of goals.

I would love that SO much. I'll be teaching English in Korea in a few months time and it would be great (on a selfish level) to have the excuse to use Blackburn Rovers related articles as teaching aids. The kids over there are Ji-Sung Park crazy!

I'd be very surprised to see Ferguson let him go though.

I have always rated Park, but £7 million? too much for me really. Price is hiked up because its man utd. He's also 30.

We would get £7m back in merchandise sales, most people dont know but he earns man utd the most money in merchandise sales so i dont know if they would sell him. At 30 he still has at least 3 seasons in him and he doesnt play every week for man utd so £7m in bargin if we could buy him.

Jones was a big part of our squad. Our run of slightly better form, coincided with Jone's return from injury.

Whilst that is true, it also coincided with other important things. I actually think N'Zonzi's return was a bigger influence since we stopped losing midfield battles when he had a run in there. Plus we started playing a more solid 4-5-1 (ish) formation.

Doesn't Phil Jones instantly disprove that remark?

The club and manager does play a part in a players choice of who he signs for.

They are crazier over Starcraft 2, though. :D

Nicko/Alan Nixon, any new news? Don't have to answer if you don't want to, I feel like I'm annoying you with the pestering. Sorry about that.

They are in for Cahill according to the Bolton evening news, offering cash + either Bassong or Kaboul

Heard that also.

Check your messages Hughesy

Hoilett had a much bigger impact in our run in (6 goals in 16 games under Kean from when he started playing from start), as did Jermaine Jones who was winning fans praises on here each week.
