Summer 2011 Transfer Window Part Two

It's hard to believe Hughes would return but if it were to happen he would be the best summer signing of all. Spending £40m plus (allegedly) on players is a waste of money until the managerial problem is addressed.

No complaints from you about the squad if Kean stays and we don't sign anyone then, otherwise it would only be a waste.

We got into Europa League under Mark Hughes even without money to spend. I'm sure Europa League would be a minimum.

But Mark Hughes had 50 million at Manchester City as well, yet did he manage to get them into Champions League? If I remember correctly, he only managed a 5th place finish at best, behind Tottenham two seasons ago. Or am I mistaken?

Basically, that is your answer to Mark Hughes with 50 million to spend.

Seems like a Europa League manager in any circumstance then :P

Fulham are in through the Fair Play League too.

The team we finished with had two growlers in centre mid dominating the opposition, protecting the defence and supplying the ammo for the flair players Hoilett and Olsson and it worked well. If it can be worked I'd be happy starting the season with a Jones and N'Zonzi pairing again. (I always view players with how I'd like / not like to play against them). In centre midfield Jenus cannot tackle his way out of a paper bag.

Tip for you davul.... when selecting players look for the ones who actually enjoy playing football. ;)

Totally agree, Jones and Nzonzi were a great pairing, but Jones isn't ours and i dont think 1 centre mid is enough.

Noramlly would come with a higher price tag than £5 million?

Ok fair enough, i'll retract the Jenas comments, however we still need more than J.Jones

To answer a few questions at once...

VUCINIC - you will know a lot more about that one in the next day or so...it has been a crash course in the size of fees, wages and messing around for the new owners.

MIRANDA - time ticking...still a live project.

RUSSIAN RIGHT BACK - inquiry made, fee quoted...proving tough...but money talks.

LEFT WINGER - inquiry made, other clubs in...a bit expensive and an auction doesn't help.

Once the Vucinic and Miranda things are settled you will either have two top players or move to the next targets.

When you are going for the level of players currently being pursued you are going to find that other clubs want them too. So it is going to cost. Probably more than anyone bargained for. But with all of the big hitters in just now there is an awful lot of buzz going on.

SAMBA - if he goes it will be for loads...

JERMAINE JONES - still haggling over prices...there is a genuine rival for him too.

It's busy and a wee bit mental. Let's leave that as an update for now and getting on with the calls myself.

Nicko, are you on commission for season ticket sales?

Not going to judge Venky's until Sept 1st. Them being prepared to spend £40m+ is very encouraging but that'll be irrelevant if we dont turn that budget into decent signings. Cautiously optimistic. People criticising this must be wishing we were back under the Trust when our last big transfer deal was £6m for Kalinic two summers ago..

Can't knock the owners for the ambition. They're certainly doing enough in my eyes to say that they're serious about the club and want it to succeed. The next 2 months are going to be huge.

I would point out that this is mostly not new money. If a projected 40m+ includes the sale of Samba, as I suspect it does, then the owners will have spent 10M+ and I think the team will be weaker not stronger because we will have lost our best 2 players.

If Junior goes we will have lost our 3 most valuable players.

Its not guaranteed that we will be a stronger club at the end of the transfer window than we were at the end of last season. It all depends on what Kean does with it.

Before anyone replies that things would have been worse under the Trust-----I know! That's why I supported the take-over and still do.

I hate all these conflicting reports! Grr...I dont know what to believe!

Do what i do, take it all with a pinch of salt and only believe it when he is in front of you in the Blue and White shirt. From the moment Roy Keane had signed for us then the morning after he was a United player i believe nothing, especially on here.

Kean on Talk Sport 'hopes to have 3/4 players in place by the first game

Three quarters players in by the start of the season - 11 / 4 * 3 = 8.25 .

eight new players and a midget, are we signing Alan Wright`s love child

I'd go for the believe nothing until the players actually sign school of thought... Potentially exciting but I'll reserve my judgement until these signings are confirmed

What's with JAL?

First he goes on about how the club will be doomed if we don't buy players, how we will be relegated because we aren't bringing in any players...then when's there's news of us bringing in players or at least looking at them, he goes, it will be a waste of money buying players because the manager is rubbish.

Just can't please some people no matter what he does, I guess.

Not taking a shot at JAL (you still haven't answered my question about the one if your nickname is related to Japanese Airlines), but I guess we should give Kean a chance instead of shooting down everything he does.

It's funny how nobody shot down Mark Hughes for bringing Santa Cruz to Manchester City for 17 million but everyone is blasting Kean for bringing him on loan. And even now when Kean doesn't even seem to want to make his loan permanent (looking at other options as Alan Nixon reported), there's still people sniping at him. I guess you're entitled your opinions about Kean, but at least be fair to the man. He's at least better than the five managers who finished below us. And don't talk about Allardyce bringing in all the points - Kean did net at least 21 points - more than half our points for half of the season. Be reasonable. Sure, I'm not saying he's the messiah or an awesome manager like Mark Hughes, but he's not "rubbish" as some of you purported him to be. Rubbish would mean we would be playing in Championship next season no matter how many points Allardyce got us in the first half.

As for Vucinic and Miranda, I wonder how many people here would be happy if Kean does succeed in bringing them to Ewood. Would there still be complaints that Vucinic is too expensive? I hope not, but...you'll never know. You have people blasting Kean whether he brings someone in or not.

Deffinatley the best way!

Can't help feeling optimistic tho with all the rumours of 50 million floating around!

Suppose gotta take it day by day!

Quick question- I know its in the wrong theard..apologies!

I am going to buy a season ticket this year for me and my girlfriend, we have been going to Ewood park for the last 5 years, we go to around 10 home games a season but wanna make it a regular thing now. What is the best stand to buy a season ticket in? I want to be where the 'atmosphere' is...if thats what we can call it lol?

Any suggestions would be helpful :)

BRILLIANT work on the new layout! Makes it alot easier to read and keep somewhat updated on ins and outs. Perhaps an own thread called "Bickering" would be appropiate as well? Would also love it if someone could make a thread that summarizes posts from "reliable" posters such as Nicko, Kamy etc (like previous years).

On transfers: I'm actually quite nervous about this window both in a positive and a negative way. I hope Rovers might go for some up-and-coming talent as well as the reported expensive players. Worth remembering that most of our current stars came cheap (Hoilett, Olsson, Samba, Nelsen to name a few).

And sorry for another meaningless post....mainly just wanted to express that I for one think the changes to the site was a really good idea. Now...back to lurking :rover:

Before the first pre-season friendly or before the first league game?

Does Myles Anderson count as one of those??

The summary link needs someone who religiously reads every post in this thread and we've now got Wen Y Hu spending his spare time on other stuff (mainly looking after our news) and the mods have a hard enough time modding to worry about reading every post and copyinging, pasting and reformatting the occasional useful bit.

Ahh...ok - wish I could help but don't have the time. Still - the changes sorta makes up for noe having a summary. Good work! :rover:

I certainly would welcome significant investment into the club from the owners, but it has to be spent wisely. We have seen clubs spend huge amounts of money in the past and had little to show for it, Sunderland is probably the main example I can think of right now.

What is wisely? Well let's say we have identified two players one for £6m another for £12m, there is not much difference between the two players, both would add something to this side and take the club forward. If that is the case you take the £6m player, giving you money to spend on improving other areas. What I am saying is price doesn't always guarantee you better quality.

Just wondering have we factored in wages into the mix when it comes to our budget? We may have a £30m plus budget but the cost of wages for players may draw from that as well.

The proof will be on the 1st of September when we review who we have signed, the question being, if they splash the cash and bring in the players, will you come on here and admit you were wrong or will you go to ground.

Are we taking bets on this one

You are laying yourself open to an " I will if you will" kind of reply there G.G.;)
