hawkiiz Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 He basically said all top clubs are after the same players, and therefore pushing the prices up. He also said english players are very expensive, and you get better value for money elsewhere. Didn't mention Rovers.

AmazinTim Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 CaliRover - I have to respectfully disagree with some of your comments, especially about "the manager's son". Michael Bradley is far and beyond our best CM at the moment. He is more technical, stronger, smarter, and has a better work rate than Edu. Saying Edu and JJones should play side by side is like saying Klejstan should start every match, it's near lunacy. Off the bench he's fine, but we have better players to start ahead of him. That said, the US hasn't been able to field our best squad in a year because every time a tournament comes up, somebody breaks Stuart Holden's leg. Why Big Sam passed on him two seasons ago is beyond me, Owen Coyle considers Holden to be the backbone of his team and he's right. The mainstays in the US team ought to be: Howard Cherundolo - Bocanegra - TBD - Lichaj Jones - Bradley Holden - Dempsey - Donovan TBD Those are our 9 best, those guys need to be on the field for every competitive match. Edu is a sub, and he'd be a sub for Rovers. The only reason I'd really like to see him would be that he'd be 1 more barrier between Keith Andrews and the pitch. Sorry for the off topic rant, USMNT discussion always gets me going.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 All well and good but I have the feeling that we need to make a big signing to get the 'feelgood factor' so that people like J Jones, Hoilett and Samba feel comfortable staying and others feel comfortable joining, and the sooner the better! I would agree with that.
brian nelsen Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 A little off topic, although not that much as the comments were made on a story about transfers. Do people on here read some of the comments made by people, who I can only describe as parasites, on the LET website? And do any on here feel its about time their right to comment on those stories should be taken away? It is beyond belief. I know there are people on here that write derogatory stuff, but its a point of view, whereas on there, its literally about who can be the nastiest. It's bloody wrong. I understand that people can say what they like. I also know that I don't have to read it, but I believe enoughs enough when it comes to that site. pathetic juveniles. And the worst thing is, some of those people profess to be over 50s! I mean, what the hell. Grow up. Anyways, any news of an 11 o clocker?
he6rt6gr6m Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Sign Diego asap! Diego, as in the former Juve player and current Wolfsburg player? I did suggest this a few weeks back when Wolfsburg said they'd listen to offers for him, but a German mate of mine said we shouldn't bother, as he's not only been poor this season, but also seems to have a severe attitude problem. If Kean could keep him in check, he'd be a key creative player for us.

Hell of a striker and his free kicks are top class.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 River Plate might be relegated on Sunday, they lost the first leg to Belgrano 2-0. Any young talents there that Rovers might be interested in especially at a cheaper price if they end up going down a division? The club has produced some brilliant players over the years, thinking of the likes of Ortega, Higuain and Buonanotte. Does anyone here follow Argentinian football closely, any future talents in the current side?

Stavros_BRFC Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Erik Lamela would be an amazing signing should River Plate go down
LeChuck Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Don't want to trawl back - is Edu the midfielder Nicko said we were after who he classes as a "good, good player"? I haven't seen him play so I can't comment. He doesn't seem to have played much for Rangers over the last three years though.
Hekla Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Erik Lamela is a fantastic player, I'm not sure that we will look over there though. LeChuck, I'm sure he said that he didn't rate Edu so it doesn't seem like it is him.
jim mk2 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 every time a tournament comes up, somebody breaks Stuart Holden's leg. Owen Coyle considers Holden to be the backbone of his team and he's right. Care to rephrase that ? Have we signed someone...... anyone ....worthwhile yet ? Nah, didn't think so. Meanwhile the £16.5 Jones cash is making very nice interest in the owners' post office savings account.

"And if anybody thinks Edu would be a good signing they really need to find another sport. " I'd say he wasn't talking about Edu
rover23 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 We seem to be going over there a lot recently! South American is our prime spot! Diego has been released? Same midfielder that cost Juve 17 million or so? Surely worth a punt! For a free? Even if he is on 80k+ a week!
AspRover Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 A front two of Cisse and Roberts would scare any defence. They'd bloody terrify the fans sat behind but slightly to the side of the goal...

No leChuck Nicko said Edu was awful *shrug* know little about him except he was once touted as the next big thing as a youngster.

Meanwhile the £16.5 Jones cash is making very nice interest in the owners' post office savings account. For a change it looks like we are after pretty decent players and you still whinge because like the rest of the league we have not signed anyone.. get a grip Chelsea, ManCity and Arsenal have not signed anyone and they are some of the biggest spenders. As it stands at least we are aiming for the right sort of targets.

Same midfielder that cost Juve 17 million or so? Surely worth a punt! For a free? Even if he is on 80k+ a week! Heard something about Diego being a make-weight in taking Dzeko to Turin. Then Dzeko chose City, and now Wolfsburg owe Juve money from this transaction. I still think he's a fantastic talent. It's just his attitude that seems adjusting. He was fined 100k at the beginning of the year for one thing or another. Wolfsburg have clearly lost patience with him. Scored a cracking overhead kick this season though. EDIT: To quote my German Stuttgart friend, Barge pole. With. Touch. I. Wouldn´t. A. Him - Reorder these words
BRFC_Pilkz Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Are we still chasing some Barca B/Youth players?
yankrover Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 No leChuck Nicko said Edu was awful *shrug* know little about him except he was once touted as the next big thing as a youngster. That's Adu. It's confusing.
Billy Castell Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I remember Adu. I used to go onto US site called Bigsoccer.com years ago, and the many Americans on that site used to rave about him being the next superstar up there with Pele etc. He's turned about to be another Sonny Pike. What wentwrong with Adu? Anyway, back on topic. Ido wonder who this good midfielder is or theguy who has been signed for months.
Hughesy Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Don't want to trawl back - is Edu the midfielder Nicko said we were after who he classes as a "good, good player"? No - the midfielder plays in the prem at the moment

I haven't seen him play so I can't comment. He doesn't seem to have played much for Rangers over the last three years though. he made 36 app for Rangers last year and was hurt the year before... I also believe he started the last 16 or matches of the season for them but don't quote me on that.
leerovers1980 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 No - the midfielder plays in the prem at the moment you obviously know who it is then lol, and is this the player who nicko said we had signed ?
