The club's advisors are supposed to be experts in their field with their fingers on the pulse.

WTF do they not seem to be in the right ball park where fees and wages are concerned.

Extremely puzzled.

if rovers want a proven goalscorer then we are going to have to pay big wages and transfer fee?

Rovers do need a proven goalscorer otherwise we are going to be middle table or lower. If we got a goalscorer then we should be in top half of the PL and pushing for Europe.

Apparently, that's where most of our £5m January budget went.

Now, if £40m (at least) is what we're looking at spending, add to that another £4m for Cissé's wages. This could get very expensive for Venky's.

If they say they want to be in the top 4 then they will have to pay it.

If we spent 90k on RSC's wages then what is the problem with offering 75k for a talented striker like Cisse? Money is huge all over now, it is what to expect. We can't move forward without paying big amounts like the others do.

It will be a risk to pay £12 million plus transfer fee and £75k a week, he is highly rated in Germany but unproven at the very highest level, tough call for Rovers because if he comes here at does well then then the risk will pay off.

Absolutely! Certainly a statement of intent from the owners. If we splashed out on this one, managed to keep our stars (Hoilett and Samba) then a couple of lower profile, yet solid players at centre back and midfield, I'd be happy for the summer.

You have to look at the whole picture, too. 75k in wages wouldn't be as scary if he was the only person we were signing. But we've got a host of new players expected to come in, most probably on pretty high wages (this is how we have to tempt players to play for us these days), and then I'm guessing the super high wages of a marquee signing, say forlan for example. Venks seem pretty structured and won't want the wages to go crazy.

we can't all of a sudden start smashing our transfer record and paying more for players and not expect wages to increase. if we aren't willing to increase our wage structure, its time to revert back to the bargain bins and have a root around for similar signings to those we have been making in the last few years

Surely it would be an idea to offer a deal that totals at 75k that includes goal scoring bonuses as an incentive. Also if Diouf is on a apparent 45k a week and this boy turns out to be twice the player then, is it not good business?

Miss it miss out....we did it with Osvaldo, we wanted him for £7m didnt pay it, now they are talking £17m.

Really?? 'Apparently' in your head?? Did you forget £3m for formica & £1m for Rochina??

WTF are you on about??

We were willing to offer Phil Jones 80k a week, whats wrong with offering a goalscorer 75k a week? Seems more likely to repay that wage to me than a defender. You want a goalscorer, you gotta pay the money!

If thats the going rate then thats the going rate.

If they are experts then it shouldnt be gamble, it should be a nailed on certainty, if they are shrewd businessmen then surely they can get the price down or the salary down.

He hasnt signed though so its just speculation from Nicko for now.

people are talkig about jermaine defoe etc, what wages do people think these guys will be on? the same. so no matter what top striker rovers are trying to sign, they will all be on big wages, if people are not willing to pay what is required then you will end up with second rate players. As has already been said a no-hoper like santa-cruz was on 90k a week, these wages should be no problem. If theyre serious about bringing in top players nows theres chance to prove it.

Not normally negative but to play in the champions league you need 11 on 75k per week, so not sure how kean thinks we would achieve this if we won't pay it for a star striker. Not sure it's a good idea for us to start going down this route, it was the wages that killed leeds not the fee's. We need to think big but maybe at a slower pace than the targets are suggesting we are currently.
