Do you reckon we'd be able to sell Cisse for circa £20m in 2 years time? That's what we'd need to do to break even on the deal.

And your point?

Nicko is exacly right. The market and indeed players wages are ridiculous right now and unless there are rule changes (which there won't be) this won't change. I hope the owners are ready to invest in a few quality players along with a strong focus on the academy (which they seem to be doing) to bring quality through and generate money through sales.

I was livid when the first team took over the academy. Sure, the first team should have the best facilities available but Jack intended us to have one of the best academies around and that's the way it should be.

Technically, we didn't break even on most of the best signings this club has made in the past decade. Did we break even on Andy Cole? Or Tugay?

Indeed Fraiser. If we shipped out Grella and Andrews Gunnarsson would be pretty useful. He'd be better than those mentioned, and can actually pass. On second thoughts, I'd make a move anyway.

I also think Thorn could be a good manager. Coventry have been playing some good stuff since he took over from Bothroyd and had Coventry playing good attacking football. Losing Westwood and King is a big blow to the team, and if Gunnarsson goes too, then it'll test Thorn's mettle.

The issue for us is that income, because of crowds/season ticket prices, is less than most.

I'm not sure about the costs for Cisse myself, but it could be argued that if he fires us 5 or 6 places up the league next season with his goals then he pays his own wages in a way.

Still a massive sum of money per season though.....

Nicko is there any reason why the deal that you said had been 'done' hasnt been announced yet? This is the one on top of the young baez lad

I believe the chap is on holiday. Perhaps he is not that major a name - and they don't want the first capture to be a lesser one.

Just a guess, but fits with info I have got.

Goals = points and points make prizes!

That's why there is a premium on strikers.

It's down to the owners on how big a gamble they are willing to make.

Bill Fox wouldn't gamble even though we used to get so close to the promise land.

Perhaps Venky's will.

A North Ender tells me it's 40%

Similar to the sell-on clause for Garner who moved to Carlisle then Forrest.

Seem to recall we made £1m out of that.

Good--even better! I don't necessarily believe the story though. One week they're after Junior, the next Treacy. Big come-down that!

Id take Vucinic over Cisse for sure. He justifies the figure and wages much more and they are only about 1 year apart in age.

We might not have to choose, we might get both....... :P

Hoilett Cisse Vucinic

WOW!

Nicko, In your opinion do you think we will sign Cisse?

I would not want to be doing the negotiating on that one - or ANY one of the strikers you are after.

At the moment prices and costs are being established, some time given to each and then moving on.

Cisse - and Vucinic for that matter - look ideal for what you need. A centre forward to hang your hat on.

There are others but they are a bit more risky to be a Premier League number nine.

But there are new names popping up - who were not on the previous list - who could catch the imagination.

So - straight answer on Cisse - I will get a skelf in my large ass and say it is 50-50. But that is still more likely than most 'nines' on the list.

There may be a lot more to dicsuss tomorrow.

Got to go.

Newcastle, Wigan and the mighty Burnley (snigger) all interested

Lets have an auction!

Indeed, however the risk is, what if he fails?

He hasn't played in this league though, and someone suggested that the german league was as strange as ours last season with big teams struggling and lower teams doing well (don't know how true this is myself, no real knowledge of the bundesleague.) so did he just enjoy a purple patch in a strange season?

We could pay that money to someone who has played in this league and reduce the risk a little.

There's a risk to every transfer.

Look at Torres!

Yep, but Abramovich soaks up their mistakes, will venkys suck it in and soak up ours?

I wonder if the venky's are thinking that its a little more expensive than they originally thought

Owning a prem club!

By the way, the first person who says 'sell-on value' will get my toe up their rectum.

Too late!

See deluded Blue & White's post.

'We'd have to sell Cisse for £20m in two years to break even'

No surprise there.

That's not true. Wages are an overhead, as long as the total comes in below our turnover then the wages are covered.

We just need to recoup the investment made in the transfer fee.

Another way to look at it- if Cisse scores 20 goals and pushes us into 6th the prize money difference between that and 15th is huge- a top class pl striker is worth 15 million plus so we should get a decent return.

Bobby I think the age difference is more like 2 years between Vucinic and Cisse- keep both for 2 years and how much is a 28 year old worth compared to a 30 year old?

Posted

Buy Cissé and get Lacina Traoré as the up and coming striker to partner him. 5 goals in 13 matches in the Russian Premier League but at 6'8 he can become a force with a bit more nurturing.

Nicko do you feel that we should be interested in Diego? He was awesome about two years ago and would be relatively cheap because of his recent problems.

I read this mornign that Liverpool are offering him a way out....................
