The press wont like 'little' Rovers splashing the cash again, sounds like some of our own fans are getting cold feet at the idea too!

If we signed Ronaldo (The portuguese one), Messi and Cisse some of our fans would still f*****g moan...

Very good point Roberto and one that should be pinned at the top of this discussion.

Why is it? We can afford, we just need to do it the right way - Losing EHD & Grella would cover his wages

Do you reckon we'd be able to sell Cisse for circa £20m in 2 years time? That's what we'd need to do to break even on the deal.

Really? I disagree.

Signing a top rated striker could do many things....help to settle the players, help to get more fans on board, show people like Hoilett & Olsson we mean business, help to attract better players to share in the vision.

And more importantly score us goals that could help us finish much higher up the league, raising our placing money (£800k per position).

I said i think he will be on 60k, i never said deffinatley.

Maybe you need to read properly?

What makes you think that when you have information saying something different? Have you talked to his representatives or are you purely speculating?

To be fair mate, after seeing Leeds, Portsmouth, etc in recent years it's no surprise people are a little bit worried. Unlike Jack, Venky's have no real connection to the club and have in the past shown themselves to be quite naive in regards to the club.

Saying that, I am cautiously optimistic. We were prepared to offer Jones £80k a week, so I'm assuming we can afford the £75k Cisse wants. It just depends whether the owners think he's worth that kind of wage.

It looks like we're finally going to get a good, proper striker at the club though which is nice. Add a good creative midfielder in there to replace Dunny & retain Junior and we'll be looking alright for next season attacking-wise.

Even with all of our money, it is a 50 metre tape measure that we are trying to stretch to the moon.

Any signings are going to be long drawn out affairs involving Venkys' boys doing their upmost to shave off a few thousand wherever they can (There's nothing really wrong with doing that of course.)

My advice. Don't put yourself through it. Switch off the PC and go take the wife out for a meal. Come back in September for the big results show.

Buy Cissé and get Lacina Traoré as the up and coming striker to partner him. 5 goals in 13 matches in the Russian Premier League but at 6'8 he can become a force with a bit more nurturing.

traore is another player we missed the boat on. same with lewanowski sp. last summer you could have got both for less than ten mil. they have both contributed goals in russia and germany. both will no doubt have very good seasons next year.

would prob cost twice that to buy them now.

we need to find the equivalent up and coming players this summer.

The issue I have is that the same people who are concerned that Venky's may leave us in the short term are the same people who questioned whether they had the money, questioned if they had the ambition to take the club forward and questioned whether Venky's would ever actually spend big...

Now it appears that Venky's are actually throwing money around and all of a sudden the tune changes from questioning their financial ambition to criticising them for spending too much...

Jones has moved to United were if he's lucky he will be 3rd choice behind Ferdinand and Vidic. Rovers could have offered 1st team action alongside Samba, so he will have spoken to our owners and manager and worked alongside them for 6-9 months. He has come through the ranks here and his quality was such that he was always going to move on, but so soon? United come along offer his pathetic buy-out clause and he's gone, no hesitation, not willing to be the highest paid rover, even though we can offer what he needs, pitch time. If everyone at the club is so sold on the whole Venky's/Kean vision why are all the best players leaving/looking to leave, or not even signing?

He knows the vision and the staff involved and is offered a deal to dwarf Uniteds and he's off at the first shot..... Why?

Swapping players for others is fine but scoring goals is only any good if you can out score the opposition and such is the faith of our players in Venky's and Kean we will lose our best 2 defenders, leaving Nelsen and Givet to fill the void. We were promised building on the good previous foundations and all we've had is the heart and soul ripped out of the club and yet some in crowd cheer it and welcome it.

Fergie had Jones' ear for a while ...if you believe the stories.

He can attract the best players in the world..Jones would have been easy.

Nowt to do with what Rovers could offer, it doesn't even compare to what Utd can.

(In my opinion)

Champions league football, Winning the premier league etc. If Ferdinand gets injured, concidering his age and his injury history there's every chance, he'll get plenty of play time. Players have always come and gone and despite a very generous wage offer from Rovers he still left. Some of you will never give Venkey's achance. You firdst accuse them of not spending then when the do spend you accuse them of something else.

Thanks for you input Alan. Interesting times indeed. A goalscorer is clearly the difference between pushing into the top half of the table and floating around relegation.

Any idea if Cardozo has been looked at.

I hope so. Would be a good signing.

So - straight answer on Cisse - I will get a skelf in my large ass and say it is 50-50. But that is still more likely than most 'nines' on the list

Brilliant 50/50 you should'nt stick your neck on the line like that.

So Cisse will either join or he won't

i shall hang on your every word,

what wisdom you do have.

anymore nuggets of gold alan

samba going is 50/50 i suppose.

Being at Manchester United is the appeal. Playing champions league football is the appeal. We could have offered him more money, we could have been run under different management but you cannot deny that if Manchester United want to buy one of our players, that player will want to go there.

You're getting ridiculously carried away if you genuinely believe the 'heart and soul' is being ripped out of our club. If we lose Samba it'll be because a bigger team wants him, Arsenal. That's the nature of football. That happened under the Walker Trust and happens to every football club. Fabregas wants to go to Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to move to Madrid.. it happens to everyone regardless of management.

If we had lost Jones to an Aston Villa level of club (like Warnock/Friedel under our last regime or 'good previous foundations' as you put it) then I think your post would have some degree of validation, but to criticise the owners because they couldn't stop Jones from going to Utd is over the top. Its a shame but he wanted to go for footballing reasons we couldnt offer.
