davulsukur Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Does the Vaughan deal take Sunderland's signings to 12? 9 signings David Vaughan Keiren Westwood Sebastian Larsson Ji Dong-Won Craig Gardner Connor Wickham Wes Brown John O'Shea Ahmed Elmohamady It's alot. They must surely be shifting some players out.
Oklahoma Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 The list of unwanted players in premier league clubs is big. I wonder if Rovers can take advantage from that. Here is the list of unwanted players in Man. City: - Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz, Shay Given, Wayne Bridge, Nedum Onouha e Michael Johnson; If the price was right, i wouldn't mind taking some of them...

Everyone of them should take 50% wage cut. Getting rid of unwanted players is a huge task once they are signed on massive wages. Honestly, who can you blame? Clubs pay ridicoulos money for players. That´s why clubs like Rovers have troubles to sign even never heards.
roverandout Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 billy crystal, exiled rover, you cant deny then they have a much better squad than us. I reckon they will finish top 10 next season.
leerovers1980 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 carlton cole close to signing for stoke in 6 million move
Oklahoma Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Real Madrid unwanted list: - Drenthe (hope not, he is a trouble maker), Pedro Leon (try a loan, maybe), Sergio Canales (ask for a loan) and Gago (injury prone, we already have Grella to keep the medical staff busy)
LeChuck Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 It's alot. They must surely be shifting some players out. Don't forget they didn't spend the £24 million Darren Bent money from January.
gumboots Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Don't forget they didn't spend the £24 million Darren Bent money from January. But they can only have 25 players plus their under 21s available can't they?
LeChuck Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 But they can only have 25 players plus their under 21s available can't they? True. They didn't have a very big squad though. If you look at their squad now the size seems just about right. They'll probably trim it a little bit but it's not excessive really. Liverpoool, on the other hand, have a stupidly large squad. My friend pointed this out to me earlier... Reina Johnson Skrtel Carragher Auerlio Gerrard Henderson Adam Kuyt Carroll Suarez Doni Kelly Kyrgiakos Agger Konchesky Meireles Lucas Aquilani Cole N'Gog Maxi Jones Degen Ayala Wilson Insua Spearing Poulsen Shelvey Pacheco Jovanovic El-Zhar A bit excessive to say the least! They're not even in Europe.
jim mk2 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 BRUCE THRILLED BY BLACK CATS SIGNINGS By Damian Spellman, Press Association Sport Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has admitted his delight at the nine signings he has managed to draft in during a busy summer. The former Manchester United defender landed Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan on a free transfer this morning to go with the earlier arrivals of Ahmed Elmohamady, Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner, Ji Dong-won, Keiren Westwood, Sebastian Larsson, Wes Brown and John O'Shea, and he could hardly be more pleased. Bruce told the club's official website, www.safc.com: ``The balance of the squad looks very healthy. ``We lost six players from the squad and we knew we were going to have to be busy in the transfer market. To bring in nine players is unbelievable when you see what most other teams have done. ``I'm delighted with what we have done during the summer. The phone has been hot and the transfers we have got over the line are terrific.'' The fact that Bruce has made such an impact so early means the new arrivals will get a full pre-season under their belts on Wearside, and that too is a source of satisfaction for the manager. He added: ``We have added the players now, so we can work with them all throughout pre-season. ``I'm very pleased with what we have done. There have been no other clubs as busy as us and I'm looking forward to the season starting.'' New signing Vaughan has set his sights on the Barclays Premier League's top six after completing his free transfer from Blackpool. The 28-year-old signed a three-year deal a day after Manchester United duo Wes Brown and John O'Shea committed their futures to Bruce's side. Vaughan, who excelled alongside Charlie Adam last season as the pair fought in vain to keep the promoted club in the top flight, is relishing the opportunity to push for the upper reaches of the table this time around. Asked about his hopes for Sunderland this season, he told SAFC TV: ``Hopefully, they can move on and build on what they have done in the last few years. ``The signings that we have made over the last few weeks have been impressive, so hopefully we can kick on and at least be in the top 10, if not the top six, teams in the country.'' Vaughan was much sought-after as his contract at Bloomfield Road expired, with West Brom making a move before Sunderland pushed home their interest. However, he insisted the lure of the Black Cats' ambition proved enough to win his signature. He said: ``I had a good season last year with Blackpool and there's no reason why I can't do that here. ``Obviously, there is a bit more expectation on Sunderland and the players, but hopefully I can prove to the fans that I'm good enough to play for the club. ``I could have possibly gone to a different club with less expectation, but I wanted to try to push myself and prove that I am good enough to be here. ``It took me a long time to get to the Premier League and I didn't want to drop out after one season, so it was one of the main factors of coming to Sunderland, and the size of the club was also a big factor. ``The club is really well supported and the structure and the training facilities are top drawer, so from a football point of view, it was my best option.'' Bruce said: ``David was excellent throughout last season, including both games against us, so it's only natural that he caught the attention of a number of top clubs. ``We are delighted that he sees his future at Sunderland. His experience, grit and energy in midfield will be valuable assets to us and we are now looking forward to him joining up with the squad for pre-season training.''
Backroom Tom Posted July 8, 2011 Backroom Posted July 8, 2011 City have demanded 20 million euros for Jerome Boetang, madness utter madness.
tcj_jones Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Well done Sunderland, another nine mediocre players to maintain your lower-mid table position. Seriously, not one of those signings is inspiring. Sunderland is a great example of how not to run a club (I know that's rich coming from a Rovers fan currently) and just goes to show what a great team Hughes / Allardyce and Williams were, working so brilliantly on a shoe-string. Just imagine the wages the likes of Wes Brown and John O'Shea are on... True. They didn't have a very big squad though. If you look at their squad now the size seems just about right. They'll probably trim it a little bit but it's not excessive really. Liverpoool, on the other hand, have a stupidly large squad. My friend pointed this out to me earlier... They're not even in Europe. Wow, I didn't realise just how much dead wood they were carrying. I reckon they'll struggle to shift any of that, which could have a big impact on who else arrives this summer.
Teacup Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Wow, I didn't realise just how much dead wood they were carrying. I reckon they'll struggle to shift any of that, which could have a big impact on who else arrives this summer. Don't they have like 12 midfielders? Won't argue with Kenny though. Maybe he knows something we don't
Hughesy Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 What about Lucas @ Liverpool? They want rid, he's brazilian and far better than our centre midfielders?
tcj_jones Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Didn't know that they wanted rid? I thought he was supposed to be highly rated these days and that he was one of their better performers last season...
budha Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 He signed a new contract at late March/early April, so I highly doubt they want get rid.
Nelsta Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Owen Hargreaves - west brom. Scott Parker - Aston Villa. According to SkySports News.
True Blue & White Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 What's happened to Scott Parker's rep in the past few weeks. At the end of the season he was going to one of the big four, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool were being mooted but now he's being linked with Villa.
John Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Wolves agreed fee for Brum's Johnson, 7 million apparently.
Ricky Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Roger Johnson would be a great signing for us. £7m seems fair for him.
Inta Beaver Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Roger Johnson would be a great signing for us. £7m seems fair for him. I can't believe we are not going for him. The bid of £7m has been accepted.
roverandout Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 because they want to spend £2 million on somebody called m'bongo.
Ricky Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Woodgate signing for Stoke. Got a mate who's working up at the training ground who has just put it on Facebook.
Backroom Tom Posted July 11, 2011 Backroom Posted July 11, 2011 Now seems to be the time that targets that could do for us are starting to move to our rivals. I know what the response will be but if Hargreaves is willing to take a low basic wage it could be worth a gamble and if we could get a good price for Samba I'd take Johnson at £7m (wonder if we could get Krancjar and £7m for Samba ) We need to get a wiggle on or we could get left behind.
