broadsword Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 wouldn’t have happened under the old guard, Care to explain why? I do love it when people say he's worth more. 20m for a 19 year old defender with 30 or so appearances is without precedent. I guess Kevin Gallacher doesn't know what he's talking about then?

glen9mullan Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Spurs bid £2m+player according to Glen Mullan on twitter I did not say that at all, and the tweet had nothing to do with Spurs placing a bid for Samba, This is how rumours start
otto man Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Care to explain why? I guess Kevin Gallacher doesn't know what he's talking about then? Is he the only one allowed an opinion then?
broadsword Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Is he the only one allowed an opinion then? No, did I say he was? I was asking if Kevin Gallacher was wrong to say he should've gone for for than 20. Quite simple, really.
Gav Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Care to explain why? I was always of the opinion that we sold players for far less than market value under the old regime, maybe that was just me, but that’s how I felt.
TheNews Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I did not say that at all, and the tweet had nothing to do with Spurs placing a bid for Samba, This is how rumours start From what I heard a while ago from down my end is that Spurs actually offered £5m + Hutton + Keane (their value of £14m+ package) But conflicting reports also say Hutton is in talk with Villa So who knows
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 how anyone can turn their noses up at defoe is beyond me, its not like we're flooded with world class strikers, goodwillie isnt fit to lace defoe's boots.
Amo Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 how anyone can turn their noses up at defoe is beyond me, its not like we're flooded with world class strikers, goodwillie isnt fit to lace defoe's boots. I'd only swap if Spurs threw players like Defoe, Kranjcar, Palacios or Bassong into the bargain. Average Joes like Keane & Hutton? No ta.
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 dont know what people see in krankja, or however you spell it, but i would take defoe for sure not sure how good/bad a player bassong is.
American Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 No, did I say he was? I was asking if Kevin Gallacher was wrong to say he should've gone for for than 20. Quite simple, really. Yes, he was, based on the point Bucky made (see discussion on stopped clocks...). I think PJ will do great and would rather we have kept him and sold Samba (going by where we stand today, not necessarily next week), but then again, I had high hopes for Jay McE.
LeChuck Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I was always of the opinion that we sold players for far less than market value under the old regime, maybe that was just me, but that’s how I felt. £18 million for Santa Cruz? £17 million for Bentley? £2.5 million for an overweight McCarthy! We've always got good prices for our players, perhaps even inflated prices. Bellamy is a notable exception, but he had a release clause.

tony gale's mic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 How much did we get for Kuqi? £2.5 mill, that was fantastic.
heysham rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 It was borderline criminal what we got for Shefki
PAFELL Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I did not say that at all, and the tweet had nothing to do with Spurs placing a bid for Samba, This is how rumours start According to roversinsider - Kean has said to spurs give us - £10mill, plus Huddlestone, Keane, Defoe, Bentley - for Samba. Spurs manager said NO. Kean playing hardball with spurs over Samba. I doubt this as Kean still on way back from India.
Hekla Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 It said on SSN that Spurs offered Bentley and Defoe for Samba, is this correct? Apologies if this has been discussed.
roversfanben Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Sky now reporting it on their site: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11675_7079180,00.html
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 if its a swap deal for defoe i hope its true, we can easily replace defenders, we cant as easily bring in proven goalscorers, roversfanben, your in the know, is there any substance to this rumour of a bid?
Kamy100 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Have been told that the owners will fight to keep Samba and WILL NOT be allowed to leave on the cheap if they can't persuade him to stay. Spurs will have to do a lot better than £10 million.
arbitro Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 if its a swap deal for defoe i hope its true, we can easily replace defenders, we cant as easily bring in proven goalscorers, roversfanben, your in the know, is there any substance to this rumour of a bid? I'm not sure how we can easily replace Samba who has (and will be) the lynchpin of our defence. You're right about a proven goal scorer but we will need up to £10m to replace Samba in my opinion. If he goes and we don't replace him what are we left with? An ageing player, a left back who can fill in at CB in emergencies and a young and, as yet unproved player.
Balwer Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Have been told that the owners will fight to keep Samba and WILL NOT be allowed to leave on the cheap if they can't persuade him to stay. Spurs will have to do a lot better than £10 million. Would take Krancjar and Defoe and no cash personally, or 6m and one of them.
Iceman Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Defoe and Bassong for Samba. Gets us a quality striker, and a replacement defender. would then like to see Raul and another defender, perhaps Onouha. I can't see it happening, but we need to sort Samba out asap
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 your right arbitro, but im sure decent defenders wont be as hard to come by as proven goalscorers. kamy do you know if samba is swaying towards leaving or is he still fully committed to rovers?
