roverthepond Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I hope that we keep samba. He's exactly the type that we need to keep around. Really good player who seems to like it here. We can find a scorer without giving up our best defender.

glen9mullan Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Have been told that the owners will fight to keep Samba and WILL NOT be allowed to leave on the cheap if they can't persuade him to stay. Spurs will have to do a lot better than £10 million. This is also my understanding that there is no fixed figure or fixed player on the table from Spurs. They have made a strong enquiry and want Samba, Rovers do not want to sell the player Spurs have made a list of players who they would be willing to throw in as bait to get the player however at this stage Rovers are keen to repel Spurs adavances.
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 your right arbitro, but im sure decent defenders wont be as hard to come by as proven goalscorers. kamy do you know if samba is swaying towards leaving or is he still fully committed to rovers? The answer to that question - like it or not - is this: In Samba's view, which team matches his ambitions, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, or AFC Other? This is also my understanding that there is no fixed figure or fixed player on the table from Spurs. They have made a strong enquiry and want Samba, Rovers do not want to sell the player Spurs have made a list of players who they would be willing to throw in as bait to get the player however at this stage Rovers are keen to repel Spurs adavances. So you could say: Kean keen to spurn Spurs' spares?
Baz Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Have been told that the owners will fight to keep Samba and WILL NOT be allowed to leave on the cheap if they can't persuade him to stay. Spurs will have to do a lot better than £10 million. He's under contract, so unless he has a clause we should just say no. Its too soon to the start of the season, we are still looking for 1 centre-half never mind 2. However, if we do agree I want his replacement lined up in the boardroom ready to sign before we give the final approval. Otherwise we'll just get quoted silly money for every player. As for swaps I'd only take Pav, Defoe isnt the right kind of player we need - we need a big strong frontman.
Kamy100 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 your right arbitro, but im sure decent defenders wont be as hard to come by as proven goalscorers. kamy do you know if samba is swaying towards leaving or is he still fully committed to rovers? It is pretty clear that Samba would like to leave Rovers, but I think he had set his heart on a move to Arsenal, but that is now very unlikely to happen so Spurs are really the only other alternative at the moment, again I think that he would like to join them. BUT he signed this new contract and there seems not to be a fixed fee clause in there, or if there is then it is at a very high amount. From what I am told Rovers and particularly the owners are in no mood to let Samba leave and will do everything to persuade him to stay but if he wants to leave then they will not be messed about by Spurs, as they have proven with Jones and Kalanic they have a valuation and will not budge from that so Spurs will have to put up or shut up. They may throw players into the deal then that will be down to Kean to decide if he wants any of the players they are offering.
SamTheShrew Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 We don't want any of Spurs crappy cast-offs. Hopefully Kean is man enough to realise who is useful and who are on the way down a la Keane
Roost Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I think we could do well out of this if we stay as strong as we have done with PJ and NK. I rate Samba but not as highly as others may do, and i think its easier to replace him than it is to buy a top class striker. Bassong is good and if we can get him, another player (Kranjer)(sp) and some dosh then thats a good deal. Dont forget the january window when he was hawking himself about - he wants to leave - so lets make it the best deal possible for us.
Roost Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 i will take defoe in the blink of an eye. Bassong and Defoe would be a result - i just cant see wobblyed striking that deal
Tooogs Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 SSN reporting we have been offered cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe. I would bite their hand off!
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 i would do a straight swap defoe for samba then. Bring a decent centreback, upson wouldnt be the worst.
FourLaneBlue Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Getting two good players in for one who is not particularly happy would be a fine bit of business. Bassong + Defoe for Samba would be good business. They would both receive all the love they need at Ewood to be able to return to form.
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 dont want bentley back, he thought he was too good for the club and has surely gotten worse since he left.
rogerjonesgloves Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Bassong and Defoe would be a result - i just cant see wobblyed striking that deal Got to pay them though. I would have thought both would be on iro £70k a week. Wild guess.
Backroom Tom Posted August 3, 2011 Backroom Posted August 3, 2011 Got to pay them though. I would have thought both would be on iro £70k a week. Wild guess. Neither would be on close seeing as Spurs have a strict wage cap
BuckyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I wouldn't want Bentley back. He did naff all at Brum. Hes finished
rogerjonesgloves Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Neither would be on close seeing as Spurs have a strict wage cap So what are we talking?
Gav Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 SSN reporting we have been offered cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe. I would bite their hand off! Whilst i think 'Billy big time' Bentley wouldn't come back due to his ego, and would we really want him back? it looks good written down Tooogs: cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe
Backroom Tom Posted August 3, 2011 Backroom Posted August 3, 2011 So what are we talking? Must be less than £50k each but close to it I imagine. Defoe plus Bentley plus cash is ridiculous, deal of the century for us but it would never happen.
koi Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 As much as I'd love to see Defoe here I just cant see him wanting the move.
m1st Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 We have to play hardball in any negotiation with Daniel Levy & 'Arry. As others have pointed out, Samba's contract is nowhere near expiring so, if Spurs want him that badly, then they're going to have to dig deep. If it were up to me, I'd start from the premise that if Phil Jones was worth £16 m [minimum] with no %age to a previous club, then Samba's worth at least £20 m [cash; or no less than £15 m + Bassong (who, if I remember rightly, cost them £5m from Newcastle) to replace him] to us.
JAL Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 SSN reporting we have been offered cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe. I would bite their hand off! So which one of these can play the centre half position ?
adopted scouser Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 If Samba wants out I'll drive the bloody car. Bentley back would be ace, but would Defoe turn into Dwight ? Sulking around the place 'why am I here'
Steve Moss Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 According to roversinsider - Kean has said to spurs give us - £10mill, plus Huddlestone, Keane, Defoe, Bentley - for Samba. Spurs manager said NO. Kean playing hardball with spurs over Samba. I doubt Kean said anything of this sort, also. However, if he did, more power to him. SSN reporting we have been offered cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe. I would bite their hand off! Samba for any two (of our choice) of the Spurs "castoffs" would be a great deal. Wages might be an issue, though. We don't want any of Spurs crappy cast-offs. Some of the Spurs "crappy cast-offs" are better than anything we have at the moment. It's all relative.
Exiled_Rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 SSN reporting we have been offered cash plus David Bentley and Jermaine Defoe. I would bite their hand off! And then who would you play at centreback? Seriously - unless they're offering that + £10m (and we used that to sign a quality centre half) we'd only weaken the team.
