XLM Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Why would we want Bentley? Seriously? We have a load of wingers, and are looking at another. Plus he's been crap since he left and doesn't seem bothered about it. A centre back would HAVE to be part of any swap deal.

That would mean any money set aside for Vieirinha and a striker could be used on a centre back. I just worry that Defoe wouldn't suit our system. It's incredibly tempting if true though.

We havent replaced Phil Jones yet and some are looking at offloading another centre half for a forward and a a winger, madness.
Kelbo Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Too right! We havent replaced Phil Jones yet and some are looking at offloading another centre half for a forward and a a winger, madness. Exactly, we'll have £10,000,000 and Dawson

I really don't think Bentley's got it in him to come back. It's been too long and injury has played no part in it. Rochina, Hoilett, Formica, Emerton, Pedersen and Olsson fighting for 2 positions on the wings, granted Olsson probably will play left back (and rightly so in my opinion). I really can't see how we need another, Vierinha included. But at least the portuguese lad would most likely be hungry, Bentley would probably be content to sit on the bench. Defoe is another matter entirely. He is of the quality to build your system around.
Ricky Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Defoe and bassong would be a better deal for us. Defoe and krancjaer would also be nice but would need a good amount of cash for a CB to replace Samba.

Bentley is a nob but he is a proven premiership player and better than what we have got. Personally I don't like defoe. His overall contribution is low and his goals rate is questionable - scores three in one match and then none for four games. That said he is better than what we have got. I think e best option would be Defoe and bas song - who is good
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 as opposed to our strikers, who score none in every match.
chaddyrovers Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2022138/Tottenham-bid-6m-Blackburn-defender-Chris-Samba.html
RoyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I wouldn't want Bentley back. He's been wick since he left and he's on huge wages too. Defoe would be a good signing in theory, but as someone else has mentioned, I could see him sulking around thinking that he's bigger and better than the club. Samba has years to run on his contract and we should be playing hardball with them, like they have been doing with Chelsea over Modric. Personally, unless they offer £20 million for him (which Everton are demanding for Jagielka and Samba is every bit as good) or £15 million plus Bassong, then we should just turn them down flat. This is one of the things that annoys me about Harry. He's quick to criticise other teams about their offers for his players, but then does exactly the same thing to other teams and hounds the team and player until they submit. Losing both Samba and Jones in the transfer window would be devastating.
Hughesy Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Get a deal going on 3 players. Bassong (£4m) & Defoe (£7m) & Krancjar (£6m) for Samba + £2-3m.
slough_rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2022138/Tottenham-bid-6m-Blackburn-defender-Chris-Samba.html 10 mill + Bassong would be acceptable. Or Bassong plus Defoe.
tony gale's mic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I really think people are underestimating what a huge body blow losing Samba would be. Even with Defoe and Bentley. Teams with a decent defence but a poor going forward rarely go down (Birmingham last season being an exception). Teams with a poor defence but decent going forward frequently go down.
Exiled_Rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Bassong, Bentley and Huddlestone and £2m or tell them to (Please don't use that word again) off.
JAL Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Rovers should be bringing in Bassong to play alongside Samba..... rather than swap both over.
A cup of beans Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Bassong, Bentley and Huddlestone and £2m or tell them to (Please don't use that word again) off. bassong yes.. huddlestone yes.. bentley.. no thanks.. after he whored himself to the world.. ??? whilst drunk on ssn. im still a bit angry at the jumped-up swine!
BuckyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 bassong yes.. huddlestone yes.. bentley.. no thanks.. after he whored himself to the world.. ??? whilst drunk on ssn. im still a bit angry at the jumped-up swine! I couldn't care less about that, forgive and forget. I dont want him because he has been rubbish since he left. I think he would rather take the money than knuckle down. I don't think he will ever get to the level he was at when he left us.
darwenblueswearehere Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Get a deal going on 3 players. Bassong (£4m) & Defoe (£7m) & Krancjar (£6m) for Samba + £2-3m. Spot on. And we should firmly tell them it's either this or go away.
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 6 million plus bassong? so by their reckoning bassong is worth about 8 million because samba is worth at least 14 mil, bassong isnt even a regular starter for them, tell them to sling their hook, defoe plus cash or nothing.
booth Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 £6m + Bassong. Outrageous. Get a deal going on 3 players. Bassong (£4m) & Defoe (£7m) & Krancjar (£6m) for Samba + £2-3m. They've put a ridiculous price tag on Krancjar though. Would be a nice deal that if we could do it though. We'd still need another class centre half to replace Samba though. Bassong wouldn't be that man, but would be good for the overall squad.
A cup of beans Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 £6m + Bassong. Outrageous. IS ANYONE SURPRISED ? we are dealing with 'arry! the man who buys and sells players..as often as he can, and a lot of the time his transfers involve the same players.. staggering. he's gonna try and offer us a poor deal.. cos he's a .... he's after lass again. strange how the south african centre half hasnt cut it for spurs isnt it?? did he ever play.. ??
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Bentley back? Yes please. An in form Bentley is better anything we have currently at the club from a creative standpoint and he can play in several positions. Bentley and Bassong would be great, not keen on the idea of Defoe or Keane coming.
Exiled_Rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 bassong yes.. huddlestone yes.. bentley.. no thanks.. after he whored himself to the world.. ??? whilst drunk on ssn. im still a bit angry at the jumped-up swine! You mean after a ridiculously unethical journalist shoved a microphone under his nose when he was enjoying his holiday with his friends? This is the lad that refused a pay rise because he wanted to leave. Unlike Santa Cruz who took the money, then bitched that he wanted to move to a bigger club approximately 30 seconds later. At least Bentley is honest.
roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 ribble, so you would take 2 medicore players instead of a proven goalscorer?
