RibbleValleyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 ribble, so you would take 2 medicore players instead of a proven goalscorer? Bentley is far from mediocre and Bassong would do a job (he's not as good as Samba imo). I just can't see Defoe fitting in our system so would rather look elsewhere for another striker. If Pav was an option I would take him over Defoe.

jim mk2 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Bentley back? Yes please. An in form Bentley is better anything we have currently at the club from a creative standpoint and he can play in several positions. Bentley and Bassong would be great, not keen on the idea of Defoe or Keane coming. Why would we want any of those players when we will have lost our two best centre - halves ? Losing P Jones was bad enough but losing Samba as well would be a disaster in my opinion. Those two plus J Jones formed an excellent defensive partnership at the end of last season and the loss of all 3 will leave an enormous hole in the team that is impossible to fill from existing resources because any combination of Givet/ Nelsen / Hanley is not good enough.
Scott18 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Kranckjar + Bassong + Walker or no deal Would love Kyle Walker as part of the deal but I think he's just signed a new contract with Spurs.
Mark Park Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would love Kyle Walker as part of the deal but I think he's just signed a new contract with Spurs. Even if the player singend a new contract , he can transfer,, like Phil Jones. And I think Rovers can offer more first team football than Spurs. Better wish samba stay and get those players

You know as well as anybody else that Samba will go because he has had his head turned. Nothing to do with the new owners or manager, Samba's noisy agent was making a nuisance of himself this time last year and for some time before that. Best we can do is get every last penny for him which is something Venkys may be good at. If he ends up at Tottenham then screw that appalling club for a few quid more.
philipl Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The doolally brigade need to wake up and realise the offer is £6m plus Bassong and relegation thrown in for good measure.
Bobby G Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I agree. Especially since the money wont be used to buy a new quality player. Its effectively a swap as far as the squad is concerned.
JAL Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The doolally brigade need to wake up and realise the offer is £6m plus Bassong and relegation thrown in for good measure. Seconded! Not one of the doolally brigade realise that Phil Jones needs replacing yet.
TheNews Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 What I do love is some on here rate Samba at £14m (Which I have no problem with) but then only rate Defoe at £6-8m Strange world me thinks or is it too much football manager being played. Think its time to get real
Roost Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would love Kyle Walker as part of the deal but I think he's just signed a new contract with Spurs. So has Samba!
Roost Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 When did Samba sign for Spurs? About a minute ago!! You know what I mean

Think its time to get real It depends what you think they are worth to Rovers. Personally I'd rather have Samba than Defoe, as I think man-for-man he'd more important to us. Could Defoe offer us something that Junior couldn't if they were both played in the same position.
Clitherover Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Defoe wouldn't come anyway, he refused Newcastle not so long ago didn't he? If he was to switch clubs i'd imagine it being to a London based one.

I guess in the same breath the same could be said the other way round, what is Samba worth to Spuds As from what I understand he will only be 4th/5th choice CB there after King (when fit), Gallas, Dawson then a a straight choice between Samba and Kaboul. Not 100% convinced he'd actually really want to go there tbh
chaddyrovers Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Defoe wouldn't come anyway, he refused Newcastle not so long ago didn't he? If he was to switch clubs i'd imagine it being to a London based one. I would like Defoe to come to rovers BUT I just can't see him coming North sadly.
ReganBRFC Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I'd love Defoe to come but agree he would never move up north. £6m + Bassong?? So they value Bassong at around £10m! Straight away would reject it. Maybe £6m + kranjcar or crouch I would consider it but only once we had signed a replacement (like we did with signing Robbo before letting Friedel go).
Ralfinho Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Kean should say 'arry I want between 8 - 10m PLUS give me a list of players you wanna offload, then kean has a choice of whom he wants to bring for the positions we need to cover
True Blue & White Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would Samba really want to go to Spurs anyway? Unlike Arsenal they are not in the Champions League and despite being in the Europa league, don't want to be. They also have 6 registered Center Backs anyway.
Ricky Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 They don't value bassong at £10m they rate samba at £10m. Not sure why we are discussing the offer, there is no way venkys are going to be shafted. The reason people are discussing other options is that they see a different combination of players and cash as more acceptable for us. In my opinion it wouldn't be worth asking for huddlestone if we are getting the Serbian lad. I would be happier if we were looking at bassong and either krancjaer or one of their forwards. We don't need Bentley as it looks like we're going for pace on the flanks, which is a good shout. Newcastle fans rated bassong very highly, think he'd be a good choice at the back. If spurs don't play ball we should hold out for a cash only deal and go for Dann from Birmingham.
otto man Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 No, did I say he was? I was asking if Kevin Gallacher was wrong to say he should've gone for for than 20. Quite simple, really. No you were implying that he was wrong because Gally disagreed.

Unlike Arsenal they are not in the Champions League and despite being in the Europa league, don't want to be. They also have 6 registered Center Backs anyway. This point has been lost in all of the swap deal speculation. Spurs are not in the champions league, but we know Samba likes a few quid in his back pocket, so we should up his pay and move on. If he’s intent on leaving, then swap deals are the best way forward at this late stage, but not Robbie Kean please.
Ricky Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Gav, surely we did that in January when he signed a new contract??
Gav Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Gav, surely we did that in January when he signed a new contract?? Yes Ricky you're right, but if a few quid keeps him, I say pay the man. I don't like it, but thats modern football these days.
Bobby G Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I think nicko has stated that we wouldnt believe what wages Samba is now on. Im guessing its circa 55k-60k a week.
