Ricky Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Don't agree gav. We'll be held to ransom at every window. He'll be on more here now than spurs will offer him anyway. His new contract was a biggie.

BuckyRover Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 It doesn't set a good precedent to the youngsters. It's ok every once in a whole but not every 6 months
den Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 If a rovers player had the opportunity to move to a club that was offering better wages, JW always felt duty bound to offer him the same wages here - if they wanted to keep that player. Seems fair to me. That's when the club was well respected by everyone mind you.
American Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 speaking to a Spurs supporter at work. He thinks we'd be smart to take cash and Bassong - thinks that Bassong will be a great player is just starting to hit his stride and doesn't want to see him go.

roverandout Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 why do people keep comparing hoilett with defoe? defoe is a proven goalscorer, hoilett is not. hoilett is good at other things, ie creating goals.

Why the hell should we go back and give him a payrise just because Spurs have made an inquiry?

He and his agent will have negotiated his salary. Why the hell should we go back and give him a payrise just because Spurs have made an inquiry? I didn't say we should give him another contract. I'm just telling you how the club used to work. It might still work that way - I don't know.

Apparently and according to our Nicko you wouldn't believe what we pay Samba, he mean't a LOT, so I imagine that was done/negotiated back in January. Am I not right in thinking that the size of wage and length of contract determine the transfer cost, if this is the case Tottenham are looking at £20 mil. :!: :!:

As for the way rovers used to do things, it sounds fair enough in some ways, that if that player can earn more at another club, then rovers accept that it's the decent thing to do, if you want to keep him at the club. In other words, it's unfair to keep a player if he can earn more somewhere else.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 If you have something to interesting to say, then say it, - otherwise shut the **** up. You are quick enough to label anybody who tries to look on the positive side of current goings on or even take a balanced view as "Rovers Fans". You seem to rarely, if ever, have anything positive to say about anything just now. Apparently you log on solely to have yet another go at Venkys or Kean, so I'm afraid you are going to get a reaction. Live with it. You're a bit long in the tooth to play the internet hardman. Calm down, you're making a **** of yourself.
Backroom Tom Posted August 4, 2011 Backroom Posted August 4, 2011 reluctantnicko Alan Nixon Spurs offered Bentley and Keane for Samba. Rovers said no. Bassong plus 6m? Does that not value Samba at 4m? #jokers Would people have taken the Keane / Bentley deal?

We should be looking to get Bassong in to replace the departed Phil Jones.
bringdunnback Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Bentley wont be coming back to Blackburn, we've already seen Kean likes his wingers with pace, something which that pr*ck doesn't have. I would take Defoe in a heartbeat, proven goalscorer, doubt he will move to us though. I trust Kean on what judgement he decides and so believe that what ever the decision taken will be the right one.
jim mk2 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would people have taken the Keane / Bentley deal? Only if the club have identified a top-class centre half and are prepared to spend the money to replace Samba. To repeat, we cannot lose both P Jones and Samba without at least one replacement of equivalent talent coming in. Relying on Givet / Nelsen / Hanley to fill the hole over a complete season is asking for trouble.
JAL Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would people have taken the Keane / Bentley deal? Definitely NOT ! R.Kean is past his best, and Bentley has been here once before and wanted to leave, so thats a wide berth for him. Look forwards Tom not backwards.

Relying on Givet / Nelsen / Hanley to fill the hole over a complete season is asking for trouble. Yes. That is exactly what I am worried about. Nelsen, legend that he is, may not ever get back to his best. He could well come a cropper again this season and face time on the side lines. Hanley has potential, but sadly at this stage of his career asking him to perform consistently at CB for an entire season is very risky indeed. Should Samba jump ship, that leaves us solely with Givet who can be relied upon to play CB week in, week out. The reality is, we should have had a replacement for Jones lined up the minute Man U stuck their oar in. As a semi-related aside, is the Mongongu passport situation something that can be resolved in time? Or are we just piddling in the wind?
alexanders Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would people have taken the Keane / Bentley deal? Noooo way!
jim mk2 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Should Samba jump ship, that leaves us solely with Givet who can be relied upon to play CB week in, week out. I also see Givet, like Nelsen, as a "second" centre half and not the main stopper role currently performed by Samba. A replacement for Samba would need to be in this mould and there aren't that many good ones about. Losing P Jones was a big blow but the departure of Samba as well would be the worst development of this dire close season.
Give 'Em the Axe Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I also see Givet, like Nelsen, as a "second" centre half and not the main stopper role currently performed by Samba. Agreed entirely.

A cup of beans Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I would like Defoe to come to rovers BUT I just can't see him coming North sadly. heard defoe refused newcastle.. cos he doesnt like pardew! managed him briefly at west ham and they didnt get on. interestingly pardew also sold james and and few others that were big voices in the west ham dressing room, with strong opinions. he's doing it again... carroll, nolan, barton and enrique.
