Hughesy Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Sorry if this has been mentioned at all but heard on TalkSport that Harry Redknapp is offering Bolton Robbie Keane and three other players (Jenas, Bassong and Huddlestone) in exchange for Gary Cahill. Sounds a bit far fetched to me... Not if Dodgy Harry is involved - gets about £150-200k off his wage budget too probably.

mickbrown Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 His performances at west ham were nothing short of shocking. He seems to have lost the little pace he had. I would steer clear of him, with his wages your talking about investing around £8 Million(incl wages) on a player on the decline.
pancini Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Perhaps were signing him to keep Keith happy and keep him away from wanting join the mass exodus and join Forest. Keith has linked up well with Keane for Ireland on a few occasions
pick32 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Bassong, Keane, jenas and hutton for cahill Thats a good deal, wouldnt mind it for samba.
philipl Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I believe Robbie Keane is on £90k a week. There was some sort of ring fence which kept him on his Liverpool wage when he returned to Spurs which avoided breaking Spurs' strict wage structure. Pick some form of player exchange was mooted in a possible Spurs bid for Samba but I believe Spurs have never bid for him. The reality is player exchanges are incredibly difficult to do and hardly ever happen these days. Mickbown, I know Keane was terrible for you- we were very grateful for him hitting fresh air for that open goal in the 85th minute against us.
Majiball Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 He would be a direct replacment for the striker we sold windows ago. 50k is less than we would have paid for Jones, Santa, etc. Sensible trade. He would be a direct swap for RSC without doubt, as he will struggle massively. We have no midfielder so it will all come down the wings, watch him thrive on those crosses. Because if you want him up top on his own with a hole player our wing play will be wasted on trying through balls ala arsenal. Sensible is not a word I can associate with Rovers these days.
Hasta Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I've admired Robbie Keane throughout his all career. However having watched him numerous times over the last few years I do worry if old father time has started catching up with him. He didn't seem to break any pots at Celtic, couldn't get back into a Spurs side whose strikers were struggling for parts of last year and was being slated by West Ham fans long before he missed 'that' open goal. Could prove me wrong and be a steal providing we get the wages right but I'm nowhere near as excited as I would have been 2 years ago.

The same can be said for any striker we try and bring in unless it is a Rooney or Messi type player. We do not have the midfiled to sustain a striker who will not work back and get the ball himself. Sensible walked out the door with some of the players we are interested in.
Backroom Tom Posted June 28, 2011 Backroom Posted June 28, 2011 Apparently spurs have dropped their asking price to £4.5m. A bit lower than that and I wouldn't mind, it's about the same city may ask for RSC and I'd rather have Keane I think. I imagine the deal may go through at 4m
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 As much as I like Keane anything over 3 Million is pushing it!
rebelmswar Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 As much as I like Keane anything over 3 Million is pushing it! That's about the figure we should stick for.
Amo Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I believe Robbie Keane is on £90k a week. Most sources say £65k a week.
Blackburn Ravers Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Nobody at Spurs is on more than 70K a week
Amo Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Nobody at Spurs is on more than 70K a week I must say £90k doesn't sit right with me, considering Spurs have one of the more prudent wage-scales in the PL.

Yes Spurs have a rigid wage system which cuts off at about £75k at present. But Keane got £90K at Liverpool and didn't take a pay cut to return to Spurs although it might have been structured in some way.

The Evening Standard has a poece on this potential transfer and states Keane is on £65,000. It also goes on to say: Keane would probably have joined West Ham had they avoided relegation but he wants to play in the premiership. "i'm sure Tottenham will want to do business. i'll just have to see what happens" They also quote £4.5M as the fee wanted by Spurs. At the right money, we could do a lot worse.
beastlove Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Does anyone know if the Keane offer is true? It really doesn't fit with the names already linked with the Rovers. All the players linked with the Rovers have been 20-26 years old, foreign and with resale potential. Keane doesn't fit with the profile. Still might do a job but cannot see him being the answer to our goal problem.
Drakefyre Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Young foreign players will take time to settle and learn the language. Keane is, at the very least, a known quantity.

Neither 65k p/w nor £4.5 million are ANYWHERE NEAR the right money. Halve each and it might merit discussion, though I'd still rather look elsewhere (despite rating him and wanting us to try for him many times over the years).
JAL Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Only a bunch of clueless idiots would sign Robbie Kean NOW!
TheNews Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Fulham are also interested and would pay his £65k a week wages Not sure £4/5m is that over priced in todays market He is proven goalscorer looked back to his best for the Republic the other week and if we were to get him he would score 10+ league goals a season. Plus his a leader on the pitch I say match whatever Fulham offer and get him in
Iceman Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 If Fulham go strong at it, and shows him that they really want him, then he will choose them… We don’t have the desire or at least show a player, that we really want him. We far too hesistent, and this at times is our downfall. teams who show that they will do everything to get the player, normally makes the decision easy for him to sign.

How do you know that behind the scenes we are not making Robbie feel most wanted here? We could be pulling out all the stops to bring him in, just doing it privately.
