Thought Formica looked class against Morecambe in the pre-season game, but not been able to see today's game with being at work, glad it wasn't due to the difference in standard.

Sounds like the same issue that's plagued us for a while is still inherent- WE NEED A STRIKER!

Looking like another loss to add to your pile Steve.

Who cares that much? It's preseason. Rather we played well and lost than scabbed it somehow.

And if I remember rightly we were terrible under the fat man in last season's preseason. Haven't we always been drab thinking about it?

You can say that again!

On topic - I'm delighted to hear that Formica has improved from the earlier reports we had on him in the reserves. Sounds promising.

Hopefully Petrovic can provide more of an engine in midfield. Provided we can move Olsson to left midfield plus get Junior fit and performing then I think we could do just fine.

Funny how an hour of pre-season fare, in which we're losing, can brighten up a dreadful close season.

Prozone does monitor some of the stuff but the heart rate monitors and GPS give much more indepth data, i.e. max sprint distance at max output, recovery times and distance covered within these. Prozone is more statitical tactical data, ball retention, passes completed etc rather than physical data.

as said intuition and the player being able to play is equally improtant but anythng that can get an extra % out of player is a huge thing these days, its also used greatly to indvidualise traning programmes for players as it identifies where their physical weaknesses are.

Rovers used them against Morecambe and behind closed doors games, this is the first season we have used this technology though.

Another loss to a premiership team, hope Mrs D is taking note

Get a grip!

If she is taking note, she'll note that we've been set up well, played well but need a couple of signings.

Exactly the difference today a goal from Darren Bent (a consistent goalscorer) once we address this in our team then im confident of doing okay.

If we'd have won it would have only been a friendly ;)

Good display I'd say, some good approach play as always, no end product.

Formica looked promising, a really good display from him.

This ref is terrible.

x20. He had no control over that match - hence the little spat with Olsson. As for booking Blackman for being fouled....wtf?!

The game shows how badly we miss Hoilett. At the bare minimum we need another striker and another central midfielder. But if you're just bringing in two players they have to be very, very good quality or we're seriously going to struggle next season.

I felt Blackman was clipped there personally.

Two things abundantly clear from the game today are:

-We REALLY REALLY need a good striker or two

-Formica really looks like a very good player but seemed to get annoyed when the tackles came flying in

Odd.

We are in a tournament that we didn't want to compete in.

Shouldn't have entered then?

It's hardly the bloody FA Cup is it.

Think about what you're saying man.

Overall a positive outing for me, looked to move the ball about and play on the deck. Formica did well and wants to be involved all the time, Nzonzi looks composed and a much more mature player, we are still lacking an outlet up top but this isnt news and hopefully this is being addressed. All in all a much needed respite from the doom and gloom purveyors on here.

1-0, would have been nice to win but good performance and we were set up well by Kean.

Nzonzi and Formica both looked good, Pedersen and Emerton looked poor.

Good run out.

I think the events of last week are in Mortens head atm. Why Grella got on the plane I don't know. Blackman was very poor tbh.

Not a bad showing really a few half decent players in and we'll be ok this season.

One thing is for sure McLeish has Villas backline well organised, but that team are dirty @#/?s.
