If we were to spend £5m or so on JJ, this guy would be a much better option for an extra £3m or so. Younger, fitter, less prone to injury and bags of potential. Looks to have more going for him going forward than JJ too. Would be a shrewd signing if we got him in.

I think Nicko said Witsel didn't show up for training. He's hoping it's a sign that we're actually moving on a deal. At this point, I won't get excited until I see the kid holding a blue and white jersey up.

Would love to get excited about Witsel, another cracking player and perfect foor our midfield. However let's remember that Kentaro couldn't persuade Seb Larsson to sign and he was on their books (also didn't have big clubs sniffing).

Axel Witsel instead of JJ who had an average Gold Cup would be a very wise move.

Witsel would be an amazing signing. We should pay whatever it takes to make this happen, he's a far better investment than Jermaine Jones.

On a side note...surely it can't be long before Belgium are challenging World Cup/Euro titles? They've got a hell of a young squad there - Lukaku, Hazard, Fellaini, Witsel, Defour, Vermaelen, Kompany...

That's as good as good as any European team after Spain. Give that team a couple of years and they should be right up there with the best.

but then we sold P Jones for a lot of money and decided that we should go after other targets? Which also might be explained by the fact that Larsson went to Sunderland not long after the sale of P Jones.
