davulsukur Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Was this not Mile Jedinak that has since joined Palace? I'm not sure mate, it very well might have been.
John Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Cryer suggested we were never in with a chance of the Witsel transfer.
Gav Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 "this is all that I can, and will, say." Nedum Onouha is a very good player, thats a good bit of business if we can seal the deal.
nicko Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Cryer suggested we were never in with a chance of the Witsel transfer. Benfica are paying just over £5 million, rising to just under £7 million. Witsel's wages will be average by Premier League standards. Absolutely NO excuse for missing out on him. Goes on the 'poor' pile along with Piatti. There is another execellent player, currently available, who you have a chance of signing and are doing very little about. This 'system' is not working.

Are they just scared to spend it for some reason?
Halstead Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Nicko have you heard anything on the apparent onuoha deal ?
davulsukur Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I worry if we sign onouha that means samba is off To be honest if signing Onouha and selling Samba aint all that bad. If we sell to Spurs then it gives us some room to trade for some of their unwanted players, Defoe, Keane, Kranjcar without having to replace Samba with some of the money.

Exactly the type of player we were supposed to be chasing. Piatti too. Goes in the 'what the hell?' pile for me. I am optimistic about Pavone, needs time but who knows could be a very astute signing.
nicko Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Nicko have you heard anything on the apparent onuoha deal ? Onuoha's fee is high. His wages are sizeable. There are other teams with an interest. I would be mildly surprised if this was on. Mind you, it's been a window of surprises. Mild or otherwise.

Agree with you but don't you think that, like Rovers, many other english teams missed on Piatti and Witsel? After all, they could buy them as well. And there was no oficial statement that Rovers wanted him.
leerovers1980 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Absolutely gutted about that. Slightly disgusted by it. As you say, no excuse. maybe the excuse is he thinks benfica is better for him, they can offer more than we can,(european football), just cause we been in for a player doesn't mean he wants to come here
LeChuck Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Agree with you but don't you think that, like Rovers, many other english teams missed on Piatti and Witsel? Nobody else is in such dire need for a central midfielder like Witsel as we are. Piatti I'm not that bothered about. He would have been a luxury signing, left wing was never one of our priority positions. Would have been a good signing had we more money, but there are more pressing matters.
broadsword Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Genuine source of concern now. All we've managed so far is to sell Phil Jones, waiting until he had had medical and talks before trying to negotiate the price up (absolutely rank bad way to go about things, amateur night that one). We've missed out on decent players that we desperately need, but we've managed to sign Tony Warner. And in the meantime lost the greater part of our fitness/ medical staff. Without wishing to panic anyone, it really does seem like we are falling to bits. Losing Phil Jones to injury last season was part of the reason we went on such a poor run. Now we've lost him, and we're not even spending the money we got for him. It's a disgrace.

nicko Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 And there was no oficial statement that Rovers wanted him. Rovers were after Witsel. Two kind of bids were made. Witsel's agents are 'advisers' of the club, so they would be aware of all developments. No excuse. Repeat. No excuse.

So we get them on a free, for the marquee signing.

Neal Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 just to let you know samba hasn't been at brockhall yesterday and today Roberts has been saying on twitter that he's going to send a search party out for him.

Matching an excellent player with Stephen Kean and the Rao brothers, does not seem to be the norm around here. Sadly for us.
