artisformallyknownas, what are you talkig about? dont need to spend alot of money to improve the team? we need at least 5 or 6 quaility siginings to even make midtable. Where do you think rovers would finish if we only spent limited money? because i know where we would finish, bottom 6. We have lost two of out best players from last season, we have no strikeforce and no midfield. Are you one of these that thinks rovers will be pushing for europe next season and go on a cup run? No wonder venkys arent putting their hands in their pockets when they hear posts like that. We need to improve a very average squad greatly otherwise i darent think of the alternative.

Fully agree, we need to spend money & spend it now!!

Not for the sake of spending money & making the fans happy but because we dont have players in certain positions

N'Zonzi is the only real midfielder we have & I dont see where any goals will come from next year!!

thats a minimum of a very good box to box midfielder & a goalscorer that we need

& I cannot see us filling those positions effectively without spending a minimum of £20 million!!

Free transfers?? Some of us seem to be still living in the Mark Hughes era, unfortunately not even Mark Hughes is living in the Mark Hughes era!!!

Says on SSN west ham consider Parker loan move.

After missing out on JJ and Witsel would Rovers be interested ?

Agree would be a top signing even if it's only a loan deal but can't see Big Sam doing us any favours.

Exactly!!!

If you spend £20 million plus in 2 players, you won't have much money for other players. And, since we also need some depth in the team, it's better to get the cheapest quality option available. Even if it is for free!!

You don't have to spend big bucks to buy quality;

Javier Hernandez

Van Der Vaart

Or even more amazing;

Steve N'zonzi

Chris Samba

The cheap options have to be preferred because they don't have the pressure. I'd much prefer us take a few punts on freebies and cheap deals, we might end up with the odd Goulon, but with good scouting/patience you can end up with the Samba's. Spending 30m does not guarantee you success, and there are too many example of others who have made this assumption.

Our biggest ever transfer fee paid is 7m. I'll stick my head on the block and say we won't break this record this summer.

totally disagree with you as a player you'd want to play in the best league in the world thats not in portugal fella

No, it's in Spain. :tu:

Champion's League football, and a very good chance of a Portuguese League Winner's medal, or mid-table obscurity/flirt with relegation in the most relentlessly hyped league in the world? If it were me it's the former every single time.

Doesn't guarantee it, but it certainly increases chances. It's all very well naming Samba as an example but you can't forget the likes Basturk, Goulon, Van Heerden, Villanueva, Danny Simpson, J.Santa Cruz and Bruno Berner who were all brought in on loan/on the cheap and were awful.

For every Samba you find, you also have to sign 6 or 7 Goulons in the process (what's that saying about kissing many frogs until you find your Prince?), that's the trouble. The more you spend, the more likely you'll get it right first time.

Oh with QPR signing Jay Bothroyd, there are now only three teams who are yet to make a signing..

Rovers

Villa

Chelsea

One of those teams doesn't need to sign anyone (although their fans would disagree) but us and Villa will be prime relegation candidates at the moment (with them losing Friedel, Young and probably Downing).

Italy

Letting Witsel slip through your fingers is unforgivable especially for £7 million.Someone at your club wants flogging.

maybe he didn't want to come to rovers has nobody thought that might be the reason, we obviously made an offer but if rovers were told he would prefer benfica why would we go back in and waste our time, at the end of the day you cant hold a gun to his head any tell him to sign for us, right now where not the most attractive team you would want to sign for, some people on here think as easy as putting a bid and being accepted and the player will obviously just sign for us it just don't work that way

Italy

exactly, roberto! ;) serie A is competetitive. i urge any1 to watch a review of last season.

spain is a gloryfied SPL. real and barca are world class, but there is v little else!

as for the prem.. best league in the world.. ?? (exciting i grant you but best)

dont believe the sky hype.. they generally only consider stats from when the prem started. theyd have you believe that football didnt count before 92-93 season!

i agree on witsel! awful decision.

It's not about Sky "hype" zaccaius, UEFA rate the Premier League as the best league in Europe.

oh please! the coeff doesnt equate to quality. i already stated the prem is probably the most exciting league. not the best.

yes but artist, why would you be happy taking a punt on freebys when we have money to spend? what possible reason would you have to prefer free transfers, which normally means cr*p, when we could spend money on a good player? the really good players cost cash, freebys wont take this club forward! If we go by what you say where do you think we will end up this season? As for your examples, yes hernandez was a gamble by man utd but they can afford to take gambles because they already have a very strong squad, we dont. Signing players on free transfers is just as risky as paying 9 or 10 million for a top player. I dont understand your point of view, it doesnt make sense unless your one of these guys who goes out shopping looking for bargains all the time.
