Summer 2011 Transfer Window - Part 3.

Funny people are condemning Pavone as a lousy striker because he missed the penalty and got River Plate relegated, but they forgot that he scored the first goal.

It's not as if he can't score goals, right? :D

No of course he can score. It's just that his record over the past four years suggests he doesn't score very many. He should feel right at home alongside Roberts, Benjani, Blackman and Kalinic.

oh please! the coeff doesnt equate to quality. i already stated the prem is probably the most exciting league. not the best.

But that is purely subjective on your part. The UEFA coefficient is supposed to RANK the leagues, so the one that comes top should be the "best" as such. Whether you agree with the outcome or not is down to personal opinion but so long as we're top media outlets (including Sky) are free to claim the PL is the best league in the world (or at least in Europe).

You don't have to spend big bucks to buy quality;

Javier Hernandez

Van Der Vaart

Or even more amazing;

Steve N'zonzi

Chris Samba

... I'll stick my head on the block and say we won't break this record [our transfer record]this summer.

That's like saying getting cash is an easy thing to do - we should simply have used the winning lottery numbers last week. Or another way, my grandmother smoked 60 a day and lived until she was 90 so smoking isn't bad for you - ignoring the many thousands who did die from smoking 60 a day.

It's easy to come up with winners in hindsight but ahead of time you have to be guided by something and with players that's usually the size of the transfer fee. The market is usually the best judge of skills/form/potential.

Buying the most expensive that you can afford is then the soundest policy - unless you have some inside track info on a player that no one else has that is.

If it's a level playing field and all knowledge about players is out there then buying cheap will just land us with a team full of mediocrity.

Totally agree with your head on block comment, which isn't a good thing though.

my gripe against sky is that they overhype the league and pay no respect to what came before it.

my views on the best league are subjective and personal opinions, isnt everything ??

anyway this is the transfer thread!

Got to agree about Joey Barton - we're past the stage of being able to care about his past. He would be a great addition to our midfield if we are going to miss out on JJ.

Also does anyone know if EHD has reported in for training?

You're off your rocker if you think them additions will cost approx £30m.

Mongongu - £2.5m

Onouha - £6.5m

Witsel - £7m

My bad missed onohua from my workings out.. Lets say 35m then.

So by your reckoning Jermain Defoe is worth £14m

with new owners comes change, people will leave there jobs and there own people brought in, it takes time, we need to stop this negativity and try and get behind the owners and believe in them ,moaning everyday isn't going to change anything is it, at least this week we seam to be making are moves for players

Er they had the time before buying the club to plan what they wanted to do. They have had months since owning the club and all they have done is remove people and not replace them. They have had countless advisors, got rid of the experienced people in the club who could have helped them.

Now we have a women in charge of transfers, who admittedly says knows nowt about football. A committee going round and round in cycles. They have even had an in house football agent (good or bad, whatever the opinion), who had contacts to various players, yet still missed out on a load of players who could have done good for the club.

How much time do we give them/ They have shown after months of ownership they do not know what they are doing.

You cannot have somebody in charge of transfers, who knows nothing about football. You cannot have a committee if each does not know what their roles are. The result is nothing but trouble. Until the owners give me something to be positive about - I'll bash em to my hearts content.

Exactly!!!

If you spend £20 million plus in 2 players, you won't have much money for other players. And, since we also need some depth in the team, it's better to get the cheapest quality option available. Even if it is for free!!

The problem is, we havent got ANYONE yet!!!

No free transfers, no loans, cheap options!!

Im all for getting lucky with players like Samba & N'Zonzi etc.

But the key word there is Luck!! we were lucky with those players,

Maybe we setup better with regards to finding gems but if thats the case why didnt we sign Valencia or Annan when we could have??

We apparently have our biggest pot of cash available for many years, why dont we spend it???

If Onouha does sign today and Samba goes to Spurs I would love Krankjar in a swap deal. I can't see Defoe venturing north and I think Keane showed at West Ham he has lost some of his magic where as Krankjar still has it all to prove at 26/27. We would then probably just need another def/mid and that elusive striker and we wouldn't be that far away from a decent side.

Still plenty of players yet to move and with the big clubs still looking to sign players hopefully we could pick of a couple of their youngsters. Shelvey and Spearing would be ideal from Liverpool as they will struggle for games with the amount of Midfielders Dalglish is signing.

Hodsgon and Kidd spent around £55 mllion in the 1998/99 season.

We came 19th.

the window is far from over, only fools rush in. We don't know 100% if any of Nicko's targets were legit.

I completely agree with you Chris but I am not basing my current opinion on what Nicko says, I am basing it on

1. Us not having made a single significant signing even though we have been told we will spend money & hope to have all our business done by next week

2. We have sold one of our best players without a replacement lined up

3. We have no medical team

4. We have no chairman

5. We were in a relegation battle & only survived on the final day even though we were supposed to be aiming for fifth!?!

I continue to say that I hope I am proved wrong but why should I have faith in the owners at this stage?

They need to prove themselves!!

... and people who don't know what they're doing dither until the opportunity is lost then stick their heads in the sand! (Or on the block!)

you could be right we don't know that yet though, most other PL clubs have not made any big signings yet and I'm sure will do.

maybe he didn't want to come to rovers has nobody thought that might be the reason, we obviously made an offer but if rovers were told he would prefer benfica why would we go back in and waste our time, at the end of the day you cant hold a gun to his head any tell him to sign for us, right now where not the most attractive team you would want to sign for, some people on here think as easy as putting a bid and being accepted and the player will obviously just sign for us it just don't work that way

Mate you talk way to much sense to be wasting your time on here!

I agree with you, but my problem would be that we have missed out on two very good players at two very affordable prices. Piatti and Witsel would have gone a long way towards solving the midfield problems that we had for much of last year, but instead we will have to identify two new targets and I am not sure if players of a similar age and quality will turn up.
