somebody else mentioned it , but it wasnt debated ... would anybody take Barry Ferguson back??

The one thing you have to consider when you talk about Birmingham players like Johnson, Dann and Ferguson is that they appeared better then they are last season because Birmingham played very defensively and deep.

That meant that Johnson and Dann was rarely exposed on pace (remember Junior tore Johnson apart) and could defend with their backs against their goal which they are good at. It also meant that Ferguson could enjoyed good protection from his midfield colleagues that hide the fact that his legs are pretty much gone in the same way as Dunn. He would never work in a 4-4-2, where you need engine players like J.Jones to function.

So despite their good defensive records they went down with fewest(?) goals in PL.

No idea if it had been locked by accident but I opened it again.

I guess we're due to start another one soon so it may have been locked pending a new thread.

I assumed it had been closed because there is nothing to discuss.

This is unfair. Diouf is one of the few players we have who does not give the ball away and passes the ball to a team-mate in tight triangles - backwards, and sideways and forwards. The ability to retain possession in midfield and up front is vital to keep the pressure off our defence and was sorely missed after he went to Rangers last season. None of present forwards and midfield players can play with their backs to goal - for instance, in the case of Roberts the ball bounces off the concrete blocks in his boots and Kilinic does not have the physical strength or technique and just falls over.

Diouf has lost the pace to beat defenders as a winger but remains an excellent footballer - and we don't have too many of those. If the manager can see Diouf's qualities and give him another chance he would be a better signing than any of the Carlos Kickaballs we've been linked with so far.

So we pretty much agree on what are his abilities. Would you still have one of the highest paid players for his ball retention only? That is as a winger, I don't see Diouf as a target man where ball retention really matters.

You really have to factor in the wage and offield antics if you gonna want him around.

For all the cheap shots against Kean, defending Diouf is probably the cheapest yet.

Cheap shots? Name me another Prem manager who would have publically thrown him to the dogs for such a flash in the pan moment simply on the say so of a ###### like Warnock. Every manager worth his salt will defend a player in public. What goes on in his office is a different matter. As far as I am concerned Diouff was disposed of cos he was not in support of Allardyce's sacking and not is support of his replacement. I wonder what your feelings would be if other players had persisted in his public opposition to the change too?

Ferguson is vile, wouldn't have him back here under any circumstances.

I wouldn't think he would want to come to Rovers anyway. To call him 'vile' is a tad too much in my view. I'm not sure if there has been bad things done by him such as done by Barton / diouff and others, have done, for him to be called vile.

Cantona was - in my view a cracking player. I would have loved to seen him at Ewood Park during his playing days - sadly his behaviour was a disgrace - yet he is hailed by many as a legend etc.

So now he has gone AWOL, which probably suit all parties. Hope I never see him in a Rovers shirt again. Big Sam might have use for some good ball retention in the Championship.

Amen to that :tu:

When is his contract up? If it's not this summer the we may as well have him as a player as simply pay him up. .... unless there's a fear of him undermining Kean's 'authority'.

Ferguson was part of a 3 million sting on us. He can (Please don't use that word again) right off.

I'm thankful for what EHD has done for the club, as at times he was terrific, and he was a great asset to the team. Though, since Hoilett and Olsson have emerged onto the scene as they have done, it might be time to move him on.

I see no need to turn this into another Kean vs Allardyce debate, though others clearly do ;)

Don't see your point mate at all. If you mean "is there not space for new signings after these players left?" then I would probably agree, but still, only a simpleton can say that it is better to spend 10m on a player, than 5m... or even 0m! Price tag does not mean quality every time.... And we are owned by Business people not fans

The Transfer windows have proven time and time again, that prices change. Look at David Bentley. We signed him for nothing, and sold him for 17m. This summer we could probably get him back for next to nothing. The impression I am getting from the mainstay of the fans is "Spend cash or I won't renew my ST" Spending money is irrelevant, Buying quality is relevant

I would much rather see us wait in the wings, rather than spending 47m on 3 "decent players" (Downing, Henderson and Adam?) Would you be happy Chris if we waxed 12m on (for example) Adebayor on 100k a week?

There is plenty of quality out there, Its just going to take a lot of ground work to get them to step through the doors, because believe it or not(something that a lot of you seem to have forgotten), even if we offered big sums and wages to likes of Defoe, they would have no interest in playing at Ewood.

I bet i'm going to get slated for this point of view. To me it's Reality

Finally, someone who is taking sense!!!!

I agree, the first lesson in leadership is to protect your subordinates, second lesson is know when saying zilch is the best policy. Moans, complaints, bitching, etc. go up, never down. Never complain or berate a subordinate in front of others.

Last but not least, know what the hell you are doing.

If Kean was in infantry, he would have had a spool of wire on his back months ago.

He's useless, can't run, can't pass. Plays all his football in a small a square near the touch line. Waste of wages quite apart from being an obnoxious human being. Oxygen thief in my opinion. Get shut!

As bad as that was, (though to be honest I cannot recall it now) when compared to other 'bad behaviour players', he hasn't been that bad. I also would not want him at Rovers,by the way.

Venky's master plan or maybe im just optimistic?

I think and hope that Venkys are getting these free players because as it has already been stated on here, they were getting annoyed with their transfer list getting leaked, so maybe they are still working on the 'money transfers' and using the free transfers we are signing as cover up. Makes you think that they are trying to divert attention away from the big targets so others clubs dont get wind of our deals and we sign them cheaper?

Another theory i have is that they are waiting till nearer the end of the transfer window to start bidding for these money signing because everyone knows that prices get reduced nearer the end. Kentaro maybe has had a word in their ear? They are a big agent company im sure they know when the right time to buy players is.

Always the optimist!

Prices always go up at the end of the window hence the quote "panic buys"

Did you listen to the interview on talksport about Pavone and RSC. Person reckoned we would be better sticking with RSC than going with Pavone. Not impressed if this is the best we can do.

I know it's scary and a good majority of you do not wish to believe me, but unless this takeover happens in the next two weeks, we are going down.

It's what some have said since they sacked Allardyce, BPF.

How poor is that !

Think the whole lot of them might as well resign now, if they cant do any better. Just pass the responsibility onto someone who's got far more knowledge and common sense of football than this bunch of Indian no hopers.

VENKY'S OUT !
