Rochina and Formica were supposed to be stars of the future. That was the plan. However even now - after half-a-season at the club - you could not put money on them being in the starting line-up.

I think there is now a realism that some experienced players make a difference. Jones proved that fact.

So that would explain why the manager fancies Keane.

Fabiano is one of those Venkys Brazil jobs.

Bellamy has not really been mentioned apart from some mischief-making at Man City.

The bottom line is you need good ready-made players to be a top-half team and some good young ones to develop.

Twas ever thus.

You have money - so 'cut out the crap and stop the excuses' would be my message.

Oh ye of little faith!

how do you this Iceman???

the 1st July was on Friday, deals rarely get done over a weekend. Think, that we will start seeing a few movements this coming week. might not necessarily involve Rovers, but if a few teams start signing, it might just get the ball rolling

From listening to the podcast, I am hopefully that the owners, Kean, Anderson and Huber can sort out the problems between about who we should sign for each position we need to fill.

All I will say to them all is we need to sort these problems out and decide who we want to sign and improve the quantity of our squad and move up the league.

From the podcast they said that we will probably sign Luiz Fabiano.

Also they said that Witsel and Keane are the most likely to sign for us in the next couple of weeks, and possible the Cisse deal aswell.

Them three players would be excellent additions to the rovers sqaud and would improve the quantity of rovers.

Then maybe sign Onuoha and sort out Samba future whether he's going or not!

Fabiano has signed for a Brazilian club already and I really hope we don't get keane . Would be happy with whistle and madeofmanUre

Been a while since you looked at things from a rational point of view, cause you'd been supporting every single decision the owners/management have been behind. I said when Ba was available that I dont care about any prior injury record, he scores goals and has been mostly fit for the last 2 seasons. On a free, even with large wages I'd taken a chance on him. Easily twice as much better than any of our strikers. Then we couldve looked for a 2nd striker in a more relaxed way.

Im sorry but had you read the transfer thread and my posts then you will see I was probably the one calling for Ba to be signed most. Injury record or not he scores goals. Cisse seems a very similar play - the difference being a £12m fee on top!

I just hope we sign some decent players....more than anything we need JJ or someone similar, and 2 goalscorers.

Yeah I know this but he has not played for Sao Paulo since signing for them cos of Injuries. Nicko has done an article about rovers are interest in LF and it would cost 6 million and he is available.

I thought LF went back to Brazil because he was homesick.

Where is this podcast available Chaddy?

Here it is

Answers the point made above about Fabiano as well.

I think Chaddy is taking what is said right at the end under pressure questioning from Wen Y Hu without the balancing with the very heavy qualifications Kamy used earlier in the pod cast.

For instance, if you listen to the bit which focusses on Robbie Keane, you will hear there could be as much as a £6m gap between what Rovers offered and what Spurs would like. That does not sound to me like an early signing given the way Levy digs in and plays a long game when selling players.

My gut feel is that with the PL still watching Rovers very closely, a SEM player will NOT be first signing which pushes Witzel back in time if he is a target.

I do see Kamy's reasoning for Fabiano winging in though.

Worrying that Jermaine Jones seems to be slipping off the radar- I know he is Copa'd but I'd hope we were at least trying to get him.

According to Wikipedia (not the best way to start any conversation/post) Fabiano signed for Sao Paulo for almost €8m and has a 4 year contract. If we want him therefore he wil be very VERY expensive and at 30, probably not worth it

I agree Andrew. That why I would prefer Cisse or Rondon.

I hope we just make a good signing this week. Not Warner and Anderson.

Nobody is going to pay 6 million pounds for Keane. He is on big wages at Spurs and will Spurs wanting 2 strikers, then at least 2 of their strikers are going to leave. So I think Huber will get it down to about 3 million with a 1 million pounds in clauses and league position.

Venkys must now realise that owning a football club costs more than they originally thought. They could also be confused about the wages a footballer gets and the wages in India.

It would not surprise me if Venkys chose to find a buyer for the club. But at the moment they are running around like headless chickens.

Venky are one of the fastest growing companies in the world and made the top 100 small companies. The are massive in India and south america. Do you really think they are thick and do not understand exchange rates? Or made the 40 million pound investment without doing background research. I imagine that they are clever than anyone posting on this forum. They are very good business people and we should give them sometime to make signings.

I will worry when wigan or Bolton make a decent signing before us!

He fell out with the manager apparently.. might of been down to Seville playing hard ball the previous summer and rejecting large bids for him (18m is the reported bid for summer 2010 and seville wanted 25m).. strange they then just let him go for 7.6m euros at christmas.

Anyone remember the quote in LET at christmas?

“We did talk with Sevilla about Luis Fabiano. It was after we did not sign Ronaldinho, but we are not interested in signing Fabiano now,” said a spokesperson for Blackburn.

“We want to sign a young striker but there are no plans for transfers now. We still have more time.”

Source: Lancashire Evening Telegraph

Since moving to Sao Paulo he has not had a game due to injury.. odd how a striker can go from the 20m region to this situation.

Not holding out much optimism for this move.. smacks of a disater imo.

Not signing Demba Ba is looking like a poor decision to me.....if they are not happy spending £12m or whatever on someone like Cisse then he would have been perfect on a freebie.

Ba failed a medical at stoke. H e is the new grella. From what I have read it is cisse wage demands (75k basic with add ons , about 3.5 million per year) which is the issue. That is almost double what spurs pay modric. Do you really suggest we break our wage structure for someone who has had one decent season in a major league

Yeah I know he did, he did however pass his medical in germany, West Ham & Newcastle.

£75k is not massive for a player if hes one of your stars. We paid £90k a week for RSC last season.

for half a season. Previously nobody has been on more than £50K to the best of my knowledge.

Personally I think it is over the odds.. its well above average for any player and way above for someone who has not proven himself consistantly.. RSC was a quick fix who is on an inflated wage at moneybags city. He would basically be earning shed loads more than some world class players in the EPL.. and thats money that could be spent elsewhere.

Still he looks just what we need.. but not sure he is worth it.

Giving one player £75k a week then opens the door for other players to bargain for higher wages.

Saying 'no, noone at the club gets paid that so you're not having it' is much easier than setting different precedents for our 'stars'.

It could start a slippery slope to exponentially increasing our wage bill.

I do think that we are going to accept that this is how much top players are gonna cost but we can't just destroy our structure on a stubborn player.

We need a squad not a one man machine.

Goalscorers of the best ilk cost money....do you think Fabiano would come here on less than £75k a week?? Never!

Then sod it, let's get somebody of the second best ilk. Or somebody who isn't established but may be of the same ilk (like Cisse was last season...personally I'd have been taking a look at the lad Freiburg signed to replace him, Dembele...I say a look because I haven't seen him, just heard good things). We HAVE to live within our means. Our means are not suddenly 75k p/w wages because we sold Jones. And as others have said, the precedent is as dangerous as anything else. You don't seem to have answered that point at all.
