Summer 2011 Transfer Window - Part 3.

This is a good summer to strike and strengthen, guaranteeing a top-ten place for the next three or four years.

I would totally agree that three or four decent signings would give us the platform to ensure a top ten finish for a season or two. However, from what you are picking up, do you feel that Venkys would be happy with that?

If you take Aston Villa as an example, a new owner ploughed a fair amount of money into the club only to find that sixth place was the best he could achieve and that the Champions League places were always out of reach. At that point the investment became more conservative.

Do you think that Venkys are now realising that the Champions League, or even Europa League, and the additional income it can bring, is actually going to be beyond their resources and hence the hesitation to enter the transfer market in a big way.

While finishing 8th or 9th would make the fans happy, I wonder if it has the some allure to our owners.

Like Nicko said, some people just want Venkys to fail from the start.

Selective believing?

Nicko says that some people wanted Venky's to fail eh? and you believe that! Truth is, it was so obvious to most/a few* fans that Venky's were out of their depth and making decisions detrimental to the club. That's not fans "wanting" them to fail.

*warrevah.

Well it is all doom and gloom on here isn't it!

I think some people really need to block themselves from this site for their own sanity!

As much as I love checking mr nixons 11 clocker I cannot see how his information is gospel because 1. The only remember of the old regime are Martin and Rob who know little as to what is going on in Pune and 2. Nobody inside venkys fully knows what is happening outside of 2 brothers and mrs D! They are fed up of the information leak and have turned the tap off so to speak.

In relation to a prior post; not that it matters but Paul Robinson is the highest paid player at the club!

Chin up lads we will be making new signings, now I must dash - got a plane to catch!

Interesting post vintageadidas, I hope you are right !

If Kamy and nicko posted their sources, you would be in no doubt how reliable the information is that is being posted on this thread.

...this is a fluid situation

We live in hope.

philipl you hit the nail on the head in stating that the situation is fluid. Now that you've said, keep it in mind! Now I don't doubt that Kamy and nicko's sources are good, but, as you acknowledge, "this is a fluid situation". Meaning the info that Kamy and nicko hear and report one day can be very different from what the hear and report the next day. "Events, dear boy, events".

Further to this, you sometimes sound like you believe Kamy and nicko are flies on the wall of each and every meeting involving the movers and shakers at Rovers. The reality is, while more informed than any others on this board, their sources might still be feeding them scraps. And given the changeable nature of the picture they're presenting this scenario is not unthinkable.

I wish you actually would "live in hope".

That's a tad harsh. I don't think any Blackburn fan wants them to fail, it's just some of us don't think they have the tools to succeeed and are realists at the same time.

There is nothing wrong with being realistically optimistic but being deluded is another matter.

I think it's time for an analogy.

A student named Venkys is studying at the EPL University. He has been doing badly due to bad decisions and choosing the wrong subjects. However, he managed to scrape past and pass his first year despite three of his friends failing and getting kicked out of the university.

To graduate, he needs to complete an essay given to him by Professor Fans. Professor Fans had no choice but to follow EPL University rules and set the deadline for the essay on 1st September. So off Venkys go to find reference materials, academic sources and texts to do his essay.

At first, he seems very successful - he finds a lot of good sources published by recognizable companies. However, the library is not working and he has to go out and buy the books with his own money. He begins planning on what to buy, and to his horror, most of the books are absurdly expensive.

Professor Fans, however, see that it is 28th June, and that while Venkys has done his research he has written absolutely nothing for his essay, except maybe the title and an introduction. Gets angry and decides to give him an F. But it's not the deadline.

Venkys is still cracking his head over which book to buy and which source is best for his essay, which he plans to make it a masterpiece and a Grade A essay that will get him graduation AND Honors. But he obviously cannot buy any of those books. So he throws out the list and looks for cheaper alternatives.

Surprise, surprise, Venkys's father calls him and gives him a vague answer that his budget for buying books has been cut short, but does not give him an exact amount and hangs up. Venkys is stunned, confused and lost.

So he has an even harder time looking for books and buying the right ones.

Fast forward to 5th July. Venkys still have not written a single word on his essay. Now that might be worrying but he still has two months to write a grade A essay, or at least rush out a B grade one. Unfortunately, as he is lost and confused over how much he has to buy books, and what books to buy as a lot of his friends are pouring in with advice and telling him "buy that book", "no, buy THAT book!", it doesn't look like he will be writing an essay anytime soon. Professor Fans see this and decides to give him an F straight away, even though the deadline is still 2 months away.

Is it fair? Is Professor Fans justified in failing Venkys prematurely and kicking him out of EPL University? His prejudice against Venkys is based on what he has seen in the first year - Venkys making a bad decision with his presentation topic, throwing away a wrong book but managing to barely scrape by with an C grade, and thus he judged Venkys as incompetent and will be getting an F ANYWAY based on the first year. So why not save himself the trouble and give him an F right now instead of waiting for 1st September? But...is it really fair? Let's put ourselves in Venkys's shoes for a moment.

It's fine if nobody agrees with me, and I won't argue if you want to continue the whole Venkys are evil and must be driven out opinion, but I hope you enjoyed this analogy of mine. :D

I actually edited my previous post, but I guess I'll change it back to normal and use the stuff to reply to your current post. I am not saying we will succeed or get Champions League football in 4 years like Kean, nor am I saying we'll get A-list players.

What I am saying is that Venkys found out the hard way that A-list players do not want to play for Blackburn unless you offer them exorbitant wages - which can be a risk if you aren't in a strong position at the moment, and thus have resorted to buying B-list players. Hence the change in budget. Unfortunately, the change was not specified, which is why everyone in charge is running around lost and confused.

It might be a good thing that they have changed their mind and are starting off small instead of trying to get overly expensive players like Cisse. Maybe we will purchase Cisse in future should we succeed in getting a better position next year or even a European place, but I doubt that will happen. Still, my point isn't what we're going to get in future, but that the modus operandi changed in the middle of everything, and without a clear definition of how big the change in the budget should be.

Like I said, whether we will succeed in getting Champions League football in 4 years is another matter.

Just remember that Kean came back from is visit to Pune like the cat who'd got the cream. He said he'd been promised more money for transfers than Rovers had ever had before, he'd presented them with his list of targets, they'd been OKed and that we'd be in the Champions league in 3 to 4 years.

Venkys said they "would do whatever it takes" to make Rovers a force in English football again.

Now you've been very supportive of Venkys and Kean and quite hostile to people who've criticised them.

Can you not see why some feel they have been deceived?

If they'd determined to start off small as you say above, nobody would feel like that at all.

Black Burn, you seem a very reasonable and quite informed poster. You are also very polite and fair-minded.

You are clearly not one of the mob.

All of this is in your favour.

However to go back to your book and exam analogy...

You can't study for one subject, do a crash course and then throw the books up in the air when you find it is too expensive.

You went to Uni for a reason.

You can either drop out or you can get your nut down and find a way of getting through.

The date for the exam is not September 1. That is when you spend August 31 burning the midnight oils and making wrong decisions. The fees won't be getting cheaper.

The time is now. Prepare, get your jotters sorted, work out your finances with a clear head and mix it with your rivals.

You have a point there.

I didn't mean to be supportive of Venkys and Kean and I apologize if I seem hostile to people who have criticized them. I'm just playing devil's advocate because if you want to be realistic you have to realize you can't just kick the owners out and change the manager and expect everything to be all right. So the only thing left for me is to stand by them until the regime change, which a turncoat like me will support the new regime and ridicule Venkys along with everyone else.

And yes, that is a mistake on Venkys's part. They should have started off small. I won't deny that.

Whilst we always have excitable fans on here around transfer window time, and that ramped up a ridiculous amount around the time we were being sold, I have to say that some of the things posted, and the way they were posted, certainly had me questioning the motives of some posters on here, and whilst I would never suggest they wanted Rovers to fail I still have my doubts about whether they wanted Venky's to succeed.

As Gordon's signature used to say - the moral of the boy who cried wolf was that eventually there was a wolf. Maybe it's finally at our door? We shall see

Nothing round here makes any damn sense.

Since the last game of the season we have gone from having a healthy budget, to a warchest, to an empty chest.

The manager has gone on record as saying we have the largest budget in years.

Thats a bold statement, and surely must be followed up.

He then jets off to India for a week and discusses targets, budgets etc. With the owners. He comes back and is ready to enter the market with his Warchest.

Then everything goes pear shaped as we have no leader (DoF, Chairman) No can make any decisions regarding transfers, again this doesn't add up. Why did he go to India to discuss transfer targets and budgets, only to then go back to the u.k and have people make objections?

Now the Warchest has been greatly downsized for whatever reason.

Firstly i can't believe that the owners "didn't know what they were getting into"

During the sale of the club the trust and their advisors, along with JW would only sell the club to someone who could continue the good work. They will have done alot of homework on the potential owners of BRFC.

As Venkys would have done on the club, in order to make sure that they were not buying something that would bankrupt them.

Players wages, transfer windows, agents fee's, current income from all aspects of the club will have been discussed and researched.

Now, somehow they didn't know what they were getting themselves in for?

Nothing adds up with what people with any inside knowledge are posting.

Nicko, some fees are just ridiculous (if what is in the press is true) so I understand they don't want to pay £10 million for JJ, or £12 million for Cisse or £6 million for Keane (and not considering their wages).

So, I think it is normal to take a step back and just have another look to the market instead of wasting money in those players.

They will have to spend to improve the squad but I expect them to do it with reasonbly...

I'm sorry, but I shortened it to EPL because it would be unwieldly to type English Premiership League University over and over again. Hope that didn't offend you.

I think the E bit was the point of contention. To us English there is only one 'Premier League', but to foreigners there are several (Scottish, Russian etc) which is why 'EPL' only tends to be used by people with funny accents.

Having said that, the people that hate the term 'EPL' will use 'SPL' to describe Scotland's league and think nothing of it.

i feel physically ill after whats been going on. The owners quiet obviously talk a good talk but cant walk the walk. I would have been content if they had come out and said months ago that we would be spending only around 10-15 million then jones was sold and i thought we would be spending a bit more. Keane somes out, being the brainless moron he is and says we have the biggest transfer budget we have had for years and that we would be looking to bring in 2 or 3 top quality players. Now it seems the schmenkys have moved the goalposts, we are now talking about freebies and loans, i feel cheated. If they cant backup their claims, they should walk. We would be better off with the trust at least they didnt make any big noises and pledges. If the shmenkys dont deliver in this window then their reputation amongst rovers fans will be lost for good.
