I think the E bit was the point of contention. To us English there is only one 'Premier League', but to foreigners there are several (Scottish, Russian etc) which is why 'EPL' only tends to be used by people with funny accents.

Having said that, the people that hate the term 'EPL' will use 'SPL' to describe Scotland's league and think nothing of it.

Because the SPL is called the SPL, the PL is just that.

Black Burn, you seem a very reasonable and quite informed poster. You are also very polite and fair-minded.

You are clearly not one of the mob.

All of this is in your favour.

However to go back to your book and exam analogy...

You can't study for one subject, do a crash course and then throw the books up in the air when you find it is too expensive.

You went to Uni for a reason.

You can either drop out or you can get your nut down and find a way of getting through.

The date for the exam is not September 1. That is when you spend August 31 burning the midnight oils and making wrong decisions. The fees won't be getting cheaper.

The time is now. Prepare, get your jotters sorted, work out your finances with a clear head and mix it with your rivals.

That is a fair analogy and the last line is what we would hope would happen.

However, using your analogy, we have got to get new books (or teachers) to study from having already thrown the old ones into the air. And I don't know if the Venky's can now remember why they went to the Uni.

Coming out of metaphor, where is the sponsorship and the global marketing and the branding and, and...???

I see Owen Hargreaves has made a Youtube channel to prove his fitness to potential employers.

If Rovers/anyone could get him on a cheap pay as you play deal for a year with an option, it could be the steal of the season.

Owen in training

Grella doesn't need anymore treatment table buddies. Even if he's on a pay as you play deal, he will be earning a basic wage.

Hargreaves should have retired by now.

Regardless of transfer targets, as far as the marketing of the club is concerned you make a good point philipl.

First page, top line, of their exercise book was to promote their own brand on the back of the clubs.

They have had since Jan to at least get that ball rolling.......... shirt sponsor anyone?

There seems to be a lack of direction at Ewood Park these days ...... worrying!

No...I'm not talking about the fans, I was referring to the inner confusion inside Venkys that Alan Nixon and Kamy were talking about.

If you buy their story that the club is in chaos right now, you also have to buy their story that we did in fact had 50 million to spend, but something went horribly wrong the past week and the budget has been cut short. You can't just choose to believe one thing and disbelieve another. That will be selective believing, which is unfair.

And I'm afraid that the window isn't "broadly panning" yet - it's only 5th July. Like I said, Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy were bought on 28th July 2007 and 2006 respectively. So why do you and some other posters believe, based in the lack of activity on 5th July, that we won't be getting anyone at all for the entire window?

Like Nicko said, some people just want Venkys to fail from the start.

But then again, to be fair, Venkys seem to be shooting themselves in the foot for now. As Nicko said, the ball is in their court. Whether they pick it up and score with the fans remains to be seen. But you don't condemn a criminal before he commits a crime. You condemn him after he commits a crime.

We have until September. While like most people I would prefer transfers to be done early, I think it's still too early to pull the trigger and send Venkys to the firing squad.

Yes, if what Nicko and Kamy said are true, then Venkys got themselves into the mess. Now let's see if they will get themselves out of it. If they don't, you can roast and grill them all you want and I will join you.

But if they do wake up and pull off great signings before the window closes, a lot of critics, naysayers and detractors will have a lot of apologizing to do.

Have read most of your posts and, IMO, you must have some connection to Venky's.

I would never employ someone like you - be brief and get to the point.

I see that Milan Jovanovic is free to leave Liverpool. It's a player that has been linked with rovers before and would improve our squad. He would be an top player at rovers and I think he'll be cheap.

Except that I've heard it said from many Liverpool fans that he is on absolutely ridiculous wages. If I tell you what they believe he's on you won't believe me, so I won't. That's why they want rid really.

You have a point there.

I didn't mean to be supportive of Venkys and Kean and I apologize if I seem hostile to people who have criticized them. I'm just playing devil's advocate because if you want to be realistic you have to realize you can't just kick the owners out and change the manager and expect everything to be all right. So the only thing left for me is to stand by them until the regime change, which a turncoat like me will support the new regime and ridicule Venkys along with everyone else.

And yes, that is a mistake on Venkys's part. They should have started off small. I won't deny that.

You must be American because you use the term " EPL" and spell with a "z" instead of an "s". In you're English you need to study harder at that university of yours.

Few people want "regime change" for the sake of it, just for the present regime to be more honest with supporters and show some degree (geddit?) of competence in the running of the club.

In the end it's results on the field that matter. A good start to next season and the criticism will abate; a poor start and it could get ugly.......

Hargreaves should have retired by now.

Isn't tendonitis something you can fully recover from though? I know it put him out of action for a long time, but if he's over it then he should be able to resume his career.

He's so good, and so perfect for what we are missing, that I'd be more than willing to offer him a contract if he could pass a fitness test.

The Piatti news is a major let-down.

It is the classic example of waiting too long, being too smart, not speaking to the right people...and letting someone step in first.

Valencia were nowhere to be seen in that race two weeks ago.

Now the lad will go there - and even if Rovers came in with a proper bid it would fail.

So it's an A for considering him but a Z Minus for missing out.

I've heard he's on around 100k! Football is officially mad.

That's a tad harsh. I don't think any Blackburn fan wants them to fail, it's just some of us don't think they have the tools to succeeed and are realists at the same time.

There is nothing wrong with being realistically optimistic but being deluded is another matter.

Completely agree with this.

No Rovers fan wants the owners to fail.

Chin up lads we will be making new signings, now I must dash - got a plane to catch!

Off to Austria with the players?

Eh???? No they spent £4.5m on "fees alone", you have to add in wages to get over £5m which was my point.

But you dont know if we had to pay loan fees for Jones & RSC....And do you want them to spend that £500k for the sake of it? Perhaps we could get another Keef Andrews....

Didnt Kean mention our summer budget including ALL money from Sales + anything left over from Jan??

As for Krancjar – perhaps we should just approach Spurs and kick start our new squad?

Samba wants off…..so we will give you Samba + £6m

For Pavluchenko, Bassong & Krancjar  Main striker, new midfielder and defensive replacement all done!

Fair play GAV.

However, if Venky's did sell, what the bloody hell would happen to the club? For better worse The Trust's 'safeguards' ensured we were not sold to a pryamid scheme con artist (Syed), but I doubt Venky's would care who they flogged us to.

The safe guards didn't stop Rovers being sold to chicken farmers / those involved in the chicken business, who know nowt about football and the business of running a club.

A sale of the club and the speed at which it could be done, would depending on who came in for the club. When man Cit sold to their current owner, it didn't take long for them to start trading in players. Others would know this better than myself, but was not whu sold fairly quickly? If a sale of the club was done say this summer. The squad Rovers have now would be ok till january. But would then need to strengthen in most areas in order to survive.

Too much like Formica, thats why we let it go I believe.

i feel physically ill after whats been going on. The owners quiet obviously talk a good talk but cant walk the walk. I would have been content if they had come out and said months ago that we would be spending only around 10-15 million then jones was sold and i thought we would be spending a bit more. Keane somes out, being the brainless moron he is and says we have the biggest transfer budget we have had for years and that we would be looking to bring in 2 or 3 top quality players. Now it seems the schmenkys have moved the goalposts, we are now talking about freebies and loans, i feel cheated. If they cant backup their claims, they should walk. We would be better off with the trust at least they didnt make any big noises and pledges. If the shmenkys dont deliver in this window then their reputation amongst rovers fans will be lost for good.

seriously something wrong with you fella if you feel physically sick .Its pre season and noone knows what's happening but if its making you ill then I suggest going to the doctor and ask him to let you get out more .Either that or your lying.

I have to say, I was thinking the same.

BR - you do make some valid points, but you need to find a way to be concise and still get your message across.
