dunc Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 We didn't even have Bohinen then - he arrived in the October (1995) and we negotiated with Zidane in the summer. This 'who needs Zidane' never happened, he turned us down because his mate Dugarry didn't fancy the move and we'd arranged a deal for both. It was Jack Walker who said something on those lines about Zidane. The player in question was Matty Holmes.

patrickvalery Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 hope its not jenas hes crap Jenas would shine for us. It seems that spuds might be decent hunting ground this close season. Harry has said he needs to sell to buy and god knows he loves to buy! The closer to Sept 1st it gets the more twitchy (no pun intended) he'll get. Some of his dead wood might be available at a knock down price. I'd happily see us go for any of Jenas, Huddlestone, Bentley or Krancjar.
Tardyrover Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Nicko, you sure you've been tapping the right phones?
JAL Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Does Onuoha class as home grown? He has played for England U21's? @ 24 he's the right sort of age player we should be looking at Good signing if he can stay injury free and focus on his game even more. As for £6m, if we sold Jonesy boy for more than double that can we really complain about this reported fee. Next move a quality centre mid please before we get to putting the icing on the cake up front. Good news hearing Mrs.D ruling out the ageing Robbie Kean.
Hi Mack Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 It was Jack Walker who said something on those lines about Zidane. The player in question was Matty Holmes. JW said"we don't need ZZ we've got Tim Sherwood" Matty Holmes was bought that summer but nothing to do with the ZZ stuff! End of chat!

That is not correct, I have this from Zidane himself, Zidane and Dugarry were both coming to Rovers, Juventus came in with a late bid for Zidane and Dugarry wouldnt come without Zidane, thats as it happened. Met Zidane in Ibiza a few years ago and though he speaks little English, his wife who is Spanish and has family in Ibiza does speak some English and he commented on my kids Rovers shirts saying he almost signed for us, have great picture and autograph of the great man with my kids!!

2PAC 4 Blackburn Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I hear we holding contract talks with a 3rd choice backup GK called Tony Warner. The excitement!
Ralfinho Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Anyone not think its gonna be hoilett on a bumper contract?
Mullionvagrant Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Anyone not think its gonna be hoilett on a bumper contract? i'd like to but unfortunately its prob the GK

Was there also not the quality left back Lizarazu leaving Bordeaux with them at the same time ?.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Off on a tangent...Don't know if Nicko can answer this but but with regards to us looking at bringing in a left winger, I thought Kean was talking about Hoilett being most effective in the second striker/hole position. In which case, would we not be looking for a right winger (obviously there was the Larsson link) as Emerton isn't really going to set the world alight?

Not in the same league i know. But i fear we may look back on Piatti with a similar sense of regret in a few years.
Kelbo Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Was there also not the quality left back Lizarazu leaving Bordeaux with them at the same time ?. Not altogether sure of that one, it was Dugarry I remembered and asked the question.

Just when i thought the Myles Anderson, Tony Warner transfers could not depress me any more, this fantastic yet heart breaking post comes along to really put a nail in my coffin. Think where we could have been...........
Billy Castell Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Perhaps it's Rebekah Brooks as a cleaner. Buggeration, I should go to bed now, as I have to be up at 5, but I'm very curious to see if there's an 11 O'Clocker. Maybe Nicko can PM me the name at 10 if I promise not to tell . Anyway, for what it's worth here is my reaction to the possible candidates: Happy: Jones Witsel Onoura Cisse Piatti Huddlestone In two minds: Robbie Keane Warnock Bellamy Reo-Coker Underwhelmed: Shorey J-A Riise Downright unhappy/disappointed: Warner (solely as a keeper) Benjiani RSC Shorey
neophox Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Nicko told that it could broke beforehand so it has to be Nedum Onouha or another lad from Man City. He can't mean Warner as he said that its a cash fee...
Grabbi Graeme Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 So do I hang about waiting for the news or go for a couple of pints, yeah the pub it is then, the alcohol may help me cope when I find out who it is
