Onouha Samba Mongi Givet

Think Salgado could even play the J Jones role, if we cant sign Jermaine.

either that, or use either Onouha or Mongi(thats easier to type out lol), in that defensive midfield role. Both Onouha and Mongi has played in that role before

As frightening as Benjani and Roberts upfront?

A few days ago, people were speculating that we aren't going to get any defenders, that we let Phil Jones go without a replacement and that Samba will leave for Arsenal or Tottenham soon.

Now that we've gotten news that we might be getting Mongungu and Onuoha, the speculation shifts to we aren't going to get any strikers and will be relying on Benjani and Roberts up front.

I think it's best to give the owners time - if they really are getting the two defenders, then let them finish that deal first. Then they can concentrate on finding suitable, affordable strikers.

I mean, the owners have proven naysayers wrong with this defender thing, right? Who's to say they won't be getting strikers next?

Could you show me the quote where Venky's promised champions league football? I've heard it repeated many times, along with the 'venky lies'-line, but I don't remember seeing the owners actually promising us to be in the CL. I mean, was there a timeline involved?

Admittedly the promise is not a guaranteed top 4 position but Adrunha Desai said that they will do what they can to achieve a top 4 finish

“I am not promising that we will be a top four team but I can promise that we will try and that is what we will aim for."

LET

Venkys have also declared that their ambitions are very high & that Phil Jones & Chris Samba have been told that we want to match their expectations which is champions league football

Steve Kean has talked about Champions league football a number of times

My intention is not to criticize Venkys, it was simply to explain that Venkys are not making me optimistic, this may very well change within the week when we sign a big name striker for £20million but is there anyone on here that is confident that this will happen???

TBH i wouldnt want to see Mongi , Salgado or Onouha in our midfield we've had enough of players "filling in " at midfield we need 2 out-and-out midfielders Reo-Coker , Hitzlesberger or Joey Barton would do , but i was kind of hoping for someone better

Sorry who have we signed?

That's true. Sorry, I got caught up in the moment.

We're supposed to sign Mongungu and Onuoha in the next 48 hours, if rumors are to be believed.

But it could, as Alan Nixon pointed out, very well fall apart the next second (I hope I'm not jinxing anything here).

But you've got a point there. Until they actually sign on the dotted line, there's no point insisting that Venkys have kept their promises and bought somebody. I personally think they are trying their best, though.

Very subjective, actually. Some think he's a fine player, others think he's a bargain bin player.

I did hear somewhere that he was once linked to Milan and Arsenal, though? Or I might have misheard that.

That was me, you haven't misheard. He has also been linked to Juventus and Bayern Munich as well as Arsenal and Milan. He hasn't signed or kicked a football for us yet but he's crap apparently?!

Us down to earth folk and sensible folk will be the judge of that.

Looking forward to seeing him in Blue and White halves... If he signs that is.

I get blank looks when I ask about Onuoha...

Have to excuse me there is an amazing managerial story poised to break.

Not concerning your club I should add.

Oh. So it looks like we might not be getting Onuoha then. Unless Preston Blue is talking to someone completely outside your sources, it seems very likely it might not happen.

But what happened to Mongungu? Did it fall apart? I hope not.

Onuhoa can play as a Full Back, Givet can play as a LB. That would leave and inexperienced Hanley, injury prone Nelsen, Samba and Moggers. Seems alright to me...

By my reckoning Morris and Olsson will nail down left back and Salgado at right back. Just got a feeling this could be a setup for Samba's move.

If it is then at least we are doing things the right way round and getting replacements before we sell.

I have given Venky's a chance and im still giving them a chance.

Agree

My issues dont involve the lack of activity or the likelihood of our first signing(s) being relatively unkown.

Totally agree -do we really need to buy big?

My concerns lie with how Venkys are going about their transfer activity and how we are seemingly missing out on players such as Piatti not through lack of money or lack of interest from the player, but through incompetence and a desire to run all the transfers through a committee.

Agree - again question raising though

I've stood up for Steve Kean on many occasions and have defended Venky's for their performance so far, but that was conditional on them producing results in these summer months.

Venkys yes - SK no

So far all that seems clear is that they lack cohesion and a solid understanding of how the market works. This can be rectified quickly and given their proposed spending of £20m+ there is every chance that we'll have a vastly improved squad come September. However, it seems like the biggest obstacle to Venky's being a success in this window is Venky's themselves.

Totally agree - but you would have thought they would be at least at bottom line now in their understandings

Its no time to panic, far from it, and nothing has gone dramatically wrong so far, but I fear that this lack of focus will lead to a mad rush to get players through the door come the end of August.

Totally Agree - and this is what is the most worrying imo

Good post MML

Onuoha has been discussing a move with another club...

Do Rovers actually have the money to buy him?

Or Mongongu for that matter? I know it is set up. Monaco expect it to happen. However.

I look forward to finding out.

i dont mind m'bongo signing for a small fee IF this is to save some money for the important positions, ie strikers and midfield. If thats the case then i think its a shrewd move. But if this signing is setting the tone for the rest of our business this summer then im not happy with the way the schmenkys are going about their dealings. Signing m'bongo, a young centreback (monaco were relegated last season, hope that, thats not a bad sign, or a slant on the defender) with potential is good business but we MUST splash big money on a striker and a creative midfielder otherwise its going to be a long hard season.

P.s black burn do you have to make your posts into essays everytime, im getting strained eyes. Are you working undercover for the shmenkys?

Nicko have you heard anything regarding the rumors stated by Kamy that Venkys may be looking to sell up? I mean when you were mentioning funds were not what we first deemed them to be I think many on here assumed we had the Phil Jones money and maybe a little bit more.

Not being unable to pay what £2million for Mongongu.
