Athlete
They actually told us that they are looking for good strikers and good defenders, and that the deals will be finalized in the next 2 weeks (or decisions). So they did come out and communicate with us. It was in the Mirror, if I'm not mistaken. The thing is whether or not they can back up their statements can only be seen in the next two weeks. If they can, good for them. If they can't, the fans will burn them at stake. you must be one of the few who actually believe the rubbish venkys say...as most of us have heard enougth garbage.. RoverPedro
Soriano is 25 hardly a youngster. He has been stuck in the B team for a reason. Meh. Better than what we have now
Hi Mack
He would be a good young player to have but again hes unproven. We need a more experienced player. We cant flood our team with kids. No one ever won anything with kids. Oh wait yes they did!! Sign the bugger up!! Soriano Formica hoillet rochina kalinic olsson. Nice young attacking forward line there Heard Soriano was minutes away from signing for Swansea yesterday, that adds up to what Nicko has said. I just wonder if we get a "young" striker will this not stop Rochina's progression? what is the point in having 2 similar players who are both likely going to be backup? To be honest with Formica thrown in to the equation we wont be playing 2 up front if he forces his way in to the side! Also...wheres this leave Hoilett? thought Kean so him as a seconded striker this coming season......Confused myself now!

bluebruce
And no matter how much you try to justify his lack of goals we will still be in desperate need of a proper striker, one that can score more than 5 goals over the course of a season. Slag off our 'top scorer', you're having a laugh. Our owners promised that all the money from sales would go into the transfer kitty, now is the time to prove that they don't just make empty promises. Transfer window hasn't fully kicked off yet, there's still time to sign a striker and a central midfielder of quality. I'm not having a laugh, you're clouding your own judgement with preconceptions and pulling phantom stats out of nowhere. Last season Kalinic scored 5, yes. In 18 appearances. A goal every 3.6 appearances, and not all of those appearances are starts. There's nothing to try to justify (even before considering other factors like being dropped when he was bang in form), it's an adequate haul for a club struggling like we were. Gyan, for instance, was reckoned to have had a good debut season with 10 goals in 31, a goal every 3.1. Not miles apart from a lad who cost more than twice as much. And there's no need to invert commas over top scorer, he WAS our top scorer with Roberts. Except he hit the same goals in 7 less appearances. I think you'll find if you average Kalinic's haul over a full season, it comes to over 10 goals a season. So, yes, he does appear to be capable of scoring 'more than 5 goals over the course of a season', and he'd only be expected to improve if played more regularly. Not that I would disagree we need to sign a new striker, as the rest are either gash or just a bit gash and too old. Unless Rochina dazzles. I'd rather we spend within our means though, than just go nuts. But it's true we have to consider the owners utter liars if we don't spend at least 20 million. But let's give it time eh? slough_rover
The reason being Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Ibrahimovich and David Villa Well if he was a talent surely someone else in Spain would have signed him by now rather than let him rot on the Barca B team. RoverPedro
The reason being Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Ibrahimovich and David Villa Indeed. Also the fact barca hardly play an actual striker. Villa on the left right centre, messi on the right left centre. Pedro on the right left centre. They just float. And i doubt as yiu say soriano was goi g to push them out of the way

If they can, good for them. If they can't, the fans will burn them at stake. Why would anybody believe anything the three numpties said? Virtually everything they've said has turned out to be untrue. The hubris they've shown whilst ruining this fine football club has been completely shocking. I don't see how they can possibly make this work. Most in football think they are clowns and the sharks in the game will see them as ready for a fleecing ( mixed metaphores I know!). The only way out of this, to me, would be the most unlikely scenario of someone with a bigger wallet and higher morals taking the club off their hands. ChesterRover
If this foreign striker is somebody pretty much unheard of then maybe a bid for the Celtic target Knowledge Musona is on the cards? An unproven young Zimbabwean striker from Kaizer Chiefs pretty much fits Nicko's description.

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 6, 2011 Moderation Lead Share Posted July 6, 2011 Jeez! We don't even know if it's Soriano yet.... Though if it is him, it's one hell of an anti-climax given some of the names we've been linked with! WTF is going on?

But let's give it time eh? 7 in 42 total, that's a goal every six games. Sam didn't play him regularly, Kean (who wanted to play a different style of football) didn't play him regularly. I have been hoping he would come good for ages, but I've come to the realisation that he probably won't so I have decided to stop making excuses for him. 'Top scorer' because 5 goals is a ridiculous low amount of goals. If he manages to turn his spell for Rovers around and become a real force, then I'll be happy to eat my hat. And Roberts is no comparison, he's not a goal scorer. Over to transfers, it's probably Soriano as people keep saying. His record looks decent, but can he reproduce it in the PL? I hope we buy him a partner up front who's less of a gamble.

scuttler
Heard Soriano was minutes away from signing for Swansea yesterday, that adds up to what Nicko has said. The local press down here (s. Wales) reported yesterday that the deal fell apart because his agent wanted too much money to set up the deal- if that's true, will venkys be paying out? Could just be the Swans trying to save face if he fancies Rovers instead - if it is him, of course Not sure link below will work to the story (on iPhone): http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Swans-Barca-man-doubt/story-12883019-detail/story.html

He's been on the verge of a move to Hoffenheim for a couple of weeks. Finished top scorer in his league (from midfield) and has been scoring for national team too. Quoted fee was 1.5 million euros. Hope it would be someone a lot better though.
