Is there anyone who thinks we'll be stronger this coming season than last?

Since we avoided relegation only on the last day, its imperative that we strengthen. I doubt we'll even stand still.

Whoever thinks John O'Shea is a good signing, well to each your own! He'll get found out massively IMO. Wes Brown not as much, but he's got injuries to hide behind as well ;)

I'd probably listen to SAF over you but like you say......each to your own! And O'shea isn't getting 80k!

I think we'll struggle to replace the two Jones's. They were massive for us at the back end of last year. My only hope is that we get some firepower in up front to give us a chance. Tying down Hoilett, a reasonably decent striker and a solid replacement for Phil Jones is the minimum we need.

Not a chance. He's been made a scapegoat sometimes but he's a very good player.

You don't play over 250 league games for an Alex Ferguson managed Man Utd if you're not a good player.

ferguson is letting them go though. He may have rated them in the past but it's obvious he no longer thinks they are Utd standard. Now that doesn't mean that they can't do a decent job elsewhere, but I don't think I'd put money on it as they were decent at Utd but never more than that.

Currently, we are considerably weaker, our best 2 performers are no longer here. I dislike kean but I think even he knows we need an influx of quality to improve on our squad/team!

But having to get shut of the 'deadwood' before new purchases wasn't a MUST a couple of weeks ago. The goalposts keep getting moved.

Exactly! How many times have we seen statements attributed to Mrs Desai or her brothers where they have repeatedly stated things like"we are not a selling club" or "we don't need to sell before we buy "etc? Suddenly we seem to be in a worse position now than we were under the Trust. What is going on????

I think it is fair and accurate to say that some of the main performers at the end of the season were: Jermaine Jones, Phil Jones and Samba (there were others too obviously).

As it stands, two of those players will not be in our first team come next season – also, Samba’s future is uncertain at this moment in time. Also has Givet’s contract situation now been resolved?

Defenders, in this window, come become a massive priority for us.

I've heard similar arguments about our Keef and getting picked for the ROI (though not from yourself, and not about as many games admittedly) :D

@Darren_Can: Samba off to #AFC ? #BRFC are close to signing a replacement, Cedric Mongongou. #THFC are also keen on Samba.

Yeah it's off twitter.

I'd have thought this new guy would have been a replacement for Jones. Another young defender. Still, anything to fuel the rumour mill. I'm still holding out hope that he stays. I don't think Spurs would be a good move for him and there is an air of uncertainty around Arsenal at present.

There were others indeed, including Hoilett. Has he signed a new contract yet?

And very versatile too, central defence of full back, even centre mid!!

Not seen any confirmation.

As each days goes by and our aspirations levels fall re targets, it gets less and less likely.

If he was your son, what advice would you be giving him ?!?!?!

Though this could be 2 + 2 = 5

How is this for a theory.

Nicko releases list of players and transfer kitty - all of a sudden agents fees, wage demands and transfer fees go through the roof. Mrs D get extremely annoyed at what she perceives as a mole in the organisation - and starts a campaign of mis-information to try to identify the mole and also try to reign in the wages and fees being demanded for players. Given the confusing information coming out of the club - the forums various sources start to give off differing and worrying messages.

In truth it was never wise for the club to give a clue as to their budget - though I am sure that Kean's boast we would have the biggest budget for some time was probably to stimulate ST sales.

The basic facts are as they have always been - we will only know what Venky's commitment to the club is at the end of the transfer window. Even if Mrs D came out and re-iterated her commitment to the club (as she recently did) - many would doubt the sincerity of her words. For our owners - now is the time for action rather than words.

Everything else is hot air - if I must admit somewhat worrying.

I think you have nailed the truth there DMTP. It is either that (which I hope is true) or something else much worse and I hope to the living God that it is not so.

Nicko used to make this site worth reading but I get the impression that his sources are not so well informed as they used to be. Maybe Venkys have learned to be more economical with the info that they are prepared to share. You wouldn't blame them for that either.

I think that Nicko is feeding off smaller scraps and thus his interpretations have been less reliable - he has thus had to re-interpret the scraps on a regular basis. To us readers this comes across as Venkys chopping and changing their budgets and targets. Maybe the budgets haven't changed - just the interpretation?

I thought we would be a stronger team as a whole if we used the money from Jones (or the possible sale of Samba) to improve other areas of the squad. Obviously if this isn't spent we will be weaker.

If the only bit of action that happened this window was losing Andrews, even then we'd be weaker. So yeah I agree we're weaker as things stand (obviously).

Not seen any confirmation.

That he'll definitely be getting games with us.

Even with both Jones and Samba gone we are still weaker up front than we are at the back.... Both strikers and centrebacks need to be addressed affressively. My priority would still be a top striker.

Depends how much we have to spend - top strikers usually cost big money.

Gumboots has posted a link (on the appropriate thread) to a French Football Website which says we've agreed a fee with Mongongu. It looks like it was posted by them about an hour ago. Well done fella.

Errr! Just so that you will know for future refernce (not having a go at you)......Gumboots is a lady. :)

I'd be telling him that he's progressing nicely, the big move will come, take the 40k a week and continue in the same vein, I’d also have told Jones the same.
