Would anybody go for Shane Long from Reading?

If rovers are going for FC Copenhagen’s Senegalese striker Dame N’Doye for 6 million then why not going for Newcastle striker target Mevlut Erdinc from PSG who is available for 7 million.

Erdinc is only 24 years old and has a good goalscoring record.

Confirmation that Venkys are not selling the club, will buy players but not after any big names.

As Balaji Rao said, we'll be buying one or two strikers, a few midfielders, so I think we can all relax now that the rumor has been effectively squashed. Just give them some time to prove their words.

If they don't back it up, their heads will be in the gullotine. But as long as it's not 1st September, don't burn them just yet.

Oh, and no big names. No name game. And they admit that they will be pumping in money, but not disclosing the amount. I reckon some of us will see this as a smart move, at least.

Things are looking much more positive now, aren't they?

just think they been advised by the wrong people and have been brought back down to earth and realised all this talk of bringing in big names is a bad thing to do, we need to rebuild from the bottom and get rid of the deadwood of the wages and bring in young and stars of the future, I think the final straw with venkys was the leak of the list of players they were looking at and something behind closed doors was done about where this leak came from

I favour sensible, financially sustainable investment in the squad. Selling players from time to time to bring in new young players will always be part of the mix for the Rovers. If the last month has brought this home to Venkys, then all well and good. However it's difficult not to conclude that a) they've learnt the hard way and B) they need a proper management team in place, both on and off the pitch, to get best value and to avoid last year's slide towards relegation.

Hopefully some of the dafter posters, who think we should be chasing players for huge fees and unrealistic wages, might share in this new reality.

Any development on the Witsel bid/rumour? Looks a class act, is young so good potential sell-on value. If JJ will cost £10M then he is a better option.

Obviously I meant Witsel is a better option, not JJ before I get some smart comment :-)

I agree, this madness is unsubstainable. We should do our transfers in the right way. With the new rules on self financing coming in we have to be more realistic. The days when Abrahamavic and Sheik whatshisname from City spend millions of their own money on players are over.

We should be chasing players that will improve the squad,Mongongu will NOT do that, wouldn't mind N'Doye at rovers but Copenhagen want big money,i want to see our transfer record broke,a good striker these days costs 10 million plus.

Witsel has a very good offer from one of Portugals top clubs...not sure who! Looks like he's on the boat that we missed. Along with Piatti and a few others!

Only problem is that rubbish disposal is very often difficult and expensive, particularly where the items are contaminated.

If Nicko is correct, we have gone in the space of two weeks from having about £50m to spend, to about £26m to nowt and we now have to sell first !!!

Unfortunately, I suspect that he may well be right.

We are in deep, deep trouble.

Bit mixed on this. At least venky aren't trying to do a pompy or Leeds. Wages are a killer. Ciise wanted 75k per week. Over a four year contract that is 14 million. Total cost is 25 million for a guy who had one good year in Germany.

On the other hand it would nice to sign decent players

I hope this clears a few things up and puts a few fans at rest!!!

Please read and take note.

"I am not into any name game. I want to concentrate on the proper game and get ahead. We are buying one or two strikers and a few midfielders," Rao said in a telephone interview.

"We have to pump in money if we have to buy players. But I can't disclose the amount. The money that came out from Phil Jones' transfer is also there for the club and will be used in the transfers."

Rao added that the owners planned a long-term involvement with the club from the Lancashire mill town.

"This is a life-time association. My son is also very interested with it and will take over soon when he grows up," he said. "He is 17 and will be on the board when he becomes 21" (for all those who read this earlier bad cut and paste job its 21 not 17!!!-apologies for the error)

"Within one-and-a-half years we are coming up with an academy and a stadium in Pune. It will be known as Blackburn Academy Pune."

Sounds positive! There ate sure to be some good players to come from India sooner rather than later..,law of averages suggests as much! Let's just hope that'll mean we are at the head of the queue!

I already posted the link to that piece of news a page earlier. I won't repeat my comments, but here's the link again:

I see a lot of people upset that Mongongu and N'Doye could be coming to Rovers.

And, while I understand that they are not the superstar players we wanted, I feel we are being to harsh on them.

How many of you ever heard of Samba before he came to Rovers?

Or Benni McCarthy?

Or Nelsen?

Hope a lot of you forget your personal disapointment and are able to support any of those players, if they do sign for Rovers

I was going to post the same message. Our best signings have been the cheaper ones that no one knew about. For example

Lucas Neil - lower league player

Le saux - Chelsea b team (chelsea were turd at the time)

Berg - Norway

Tugay - not playing for rangers

Friedel - failed at Liverpool

Samba - german b team player

Nelson - free from USA

Bentley - less than a million from arsenal

Nzonzi - French third division

We could go on.

Money does not always mean good players

For me, as i said yesterday, I am disappointed with Mongongu and N'Doye simply because our expectations have been raised!!

Venkys have said that they will do everything in their power to get into the top four

Samba, Benni & Nelsen never got us into the top 4 & Players like Mongongu and N'Doye are also unlikely to!!

Samba is wanted by one of the top four. If mongongo and doye turn out like that I would be happy

Even if we had the £50 million, Rovers need a lot of players because we have a lot of weaknesses.

So, in order to buy 2 strikers, 1 centre half, 2 midfielders, 1 right back, 1 left back (just an estimated guess), we would have around £7 million for each, excluding wages.

Now, tell me, would you rather spend £7 million on each player or try to save some money in some positions and spend the biggest amount on a striker?

a good striker for £7 million is almost impossible to find...
