I was going to post the same message. Our best signings have been the cheaper ones that no one knew about. For example

Lucas Neil - lower league player

Le saux - Chelsea b team (chelsea were turd at the time)

Berg - Norway

Tugay - not playing for rangers

Friedel - failed at Liverpool

Samba - german b team player

Nelson - free from USA

Bentley - less than a million from arsenal

Nzonzi - French third division

We could go on.

Money does not always mean good players

Well said

*cough* 17m santa cruz *cough*

Hmmm.......are there any good Indian footballers on the planet?

I imagine that with Indians population and the growth of football in that country the answer is yes and lots of them. Football ability isnt defined by nationality!

That is true but when we purchased most of those players the squad was in a much better shape than it is now. Easier to take a risk. Right now we need players to come in and do a job straight away.

There will be if they do open their football academy. A nation of 1 billion must have good footballers.

I agree, this madness is unsubstainable. We should do our transfers in the right way. With the new rules on self financing coming in we have to be more realistic. The days when Abrahamavic and Sheik whatshisname from City spend millions of their own money on players are over.

Chelsea just blew 70 million in January, Roman funded that and City are spending big again

We should raid FC Cologne and get Lukas Podolski. They are cash strapped.

I can also see our former giant defender Kevin Pezzoni who stayed 5 years at rovers academy is a star there, the guy is huge and only 22. DOn't know why we let him go 2008?

We seem to be linked with name after name but not actually going after anyone - many ships have already sailed it seems

Could it just be that the players in question are madly over priced and the wages are too high?

mate, if i was put on the board when i was 17 i'd be buzzin, lol.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! My goodness, there is an error in Mullionvagrant's post.

Rao's son will join the board when he is 21, not 17. Click on my link for the original story. It was 21. Probably Mullionvagrant inadvertently altered it, but rest assured the lad will not be running the show when he's 17.

I think honestly we need centre back, right back/left back, 2 strikers and 1 midfielder.

we do not need major overhaul of the squad but I would say that we do need to get rid of some people like Grella, Goulan, Langinzi. Kean must decide whether he wants Kalinic to stay or go. I personally would keep him and play him more.

only 55 days to go of the transfer window. I would except some signings in the next week with Kean back from Austria.

Whoops Tee hee. Here's the link i badly cut and pasted (and yes it would seem miss quoted) from http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/82285/default.aspx? guess its the same article u posted rehashed. sorry just glossed over the last few pages of the board and didn't see your link (sorry if i stole some of your thunder) i've given up reading it too carefully at the moment its so depressing. Anyway this (and your link/same article) seems more positive and less doom and gloom so it should make lighter reading.

We bought Santa Cruz for around 3 million plus from Bayern Munich if I remember correctly.

You missed the point, we bought him for 3m he was good, We then sold him to city for 17m he was terrible.

I would add Andrews to that list. But the problem is who wants them...

even taking in consideration the 5 players you think we need, that would be £10 million each, if we had £50 million.

Cisse, so far a one season wonder, costs 13 million. So, less money for other players.

If we want a star striker, we will have to spend 15 to 20 million £.

So, if we want all those players, we have to be realistic and go for the best deal possible.

and he was a massive gamble with dodgey knees, a poor scoring record & no experience of the premier league!!

It worked out, we got lucky but that is a rare event!!

As John Williams stated a number of years ago, the top teams are where they are because they pay the best wages & transfer fees. Im not saying we should do a Leeds or Portsmouth but if Venkys want a minimum of top ten position they need to pay for a quality striker on top of a gamble like N'Doye

No, we should do like Malaga, spend like crazy and see what happens.

Maybe be like Leeds or Portsmouth.

The thing is that a team has to be built. Spending big on players doesn't make a good team.

And we have to look to the future and not just buy like crazy...
