EWOODACE1 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I was of the opinion when he won player of the season that he wasn't as good as people made out. The end of last season completely changed my mind though. He benefitted from having someone who could play in the middle of the park and looked a lot more comfortable on the ball and put the occasional pass in and made the occasional run. He can't hold the midfield on his own yet but he's an exciting prospect. He needs that engine to work alongside. Selling him would be daft even at 10 million because we don't know whether we can bring anyone in as a sufficient replacement. We can't sell half the squad and rebuild it in one window. In a year or two when he's really leaarnt the game he'll be a corker. ill admitt that he did impress a lot more to the end of last season. but i think having jj next to him helped him a lot. i also think that it helped jj as he wasnt that impressive until nzonzi come in along side him. the main factor i believe to our turnaround was pj. he brought a lot of self belief back into the team and kept possession.

That means we will be back ot young hopefuls who might give us a season or 2 until a bigger club comes in and past it has beens who might or migght not work out. There is no guarantee that this model will keep us in the premier league - you need to keep some players to persuade others that we have a team worth playing for. Also too great a turnover of staff is not a good thing for any business. You need fresh faces but you also need those who know the ropes and can help younger new players to settle in. It helps if some of them are not old has beens who can't find a better final pay day or those who have had no offers to go anywhere else, but those who have chosen to stay because they think it is the best place for them at the time.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm absolutely sick and flurkin tired of this,we are told one thing from Venky's and then they change the story at a blink of an eye. I doubt we will spend even 10 Million this close season..just b1oody weary of the mis-information we are being fed.

pick32 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 According to people on twitter liverpool thinking of bidding 6million for Hoilet. Anything less than 10million and i would just let him run his contract down.

I doubt we will spend even 10 Million this close season. I wanted to give them a chance as I thought they might be quick learners if they really are successful at running their other businesses, but I am gradually losing all hope and all patience with them, and, whilst not being an out and out supporter of their tenure, I have been one of the moderates who preferred to hope whilst hope still seemed possible. However, the way this transfer window looks like going (and it could still all change very quickly, but I'm not holding my breath) I too am growing increasingly angry. It's worse than under the trust because then you knew they would spend next to nothing on bringing players in, but this lot have promised some signings but all we seem to hear is players being linked with other clubs. there IS still time but every day brings another erosion of confidence and a bit more anger.

When Venkys were going after the ridiculous signings such as Ronaldinho Beckham Riquelme etc etc, everyone was moaning "they are making us look a laughing stock, get realistic!" and so on, now they change their targets to more realistic ones and ones which I personally would prefer, and you still MOAN MOAN MOAN WINGE WINGE WINGE. GET A GRIP. You are just looking for excuses to drag down the owners without giving them a chance to prove themselves, you can moan on the 31st of August if we have not signed anyone.

Bang on the money. 31 of august is the time to judge. Before then anything can happen. But as like you say we could sign some class players and people would still moan we didnt buy anyone better. Its boring and to be honest makes me dislike being associated with fans like that.

LeChuck Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Sorry but this "31st August" stuff is balls. We need to hit the ground running. That means a good pre-season. That means getting players in early and gelling everyone together. I agree that it's too early to be going mental about it, but we need to sign players at least a couple of weeks before the first game of the season.

bluebruce Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Excuse me if this has been mentioned, it's hard keeping track. But Balaji's recent comments contradict Mrs Desai's again. He says we are looking for strikers and midfielders, but she said we are looking for strikers and defenders.

rover23 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Sorry but in the grand scheme of things, the 3-4 games in August are not the be all and end all. Fancy rushing into a deal to sign any striker, we end up with N'Doye, who by the looks of it will be another Kalinic. Or we could wait, and put up with not signing him yet, wait, and if Cisse drops his wage demands, we could have a striker who could potentially score 10 more goals than N'Doye in a season. No point in rushing as long as we get the best end product.
Oklahoma Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 8th and a cup win has been promised True and, as far as we know, still possible. So far, I think we only missed one player: Pablo Piatti. The Witsel link is weird. Comes from Belgium and claims Benfica made an offer. I highly doubt that for two reasons: - it's not a priority to get a defensive midfielder when you already have 3 in preseason training and you only use one in the team. - Benfica need to buy a left back first. They won't spend without buying someone to replace Coentrao (ansaldi, maybe) Excuse me if this has been mentioned, it's hard keeping track. But Balaji's recent comments contradict Mrs Desai's again. He says we are looking for strikers and midfielders, but she said we are looking for strikers and defenders. defensive midfielders maybe?!??!!?

Is that realistic, as in players who are decent and affordable from a reasonable transfer kitty? Or realistic, as in bargain basement buys, crocks, lower league players, etc? I don't think many would complain about the first of those options. It's the second that I think is worrying some fans. Is there any confirmation that Venky's are rich enough to run a Premier League club yet? That's something that worries me personally. Some people have said that they were told they could run Rovers cheaply and still be a top ten club, and now they are waking up and smelling the coffee. I'm not saying that's true but that's fueling the fires of people believing we are now looking for dirt cheap deals for players not fit to grace the Premier League. The other bothersome aspect is that if we are looking for bargain basement players, why are we missing out on some genuinely good freebies that are going at the moment? Vaughn has just gone to Sunderland on a free. Decent player, and there's a few more about who could do a job.

That's the point I was getting at. While 10 million (for example) may be good money for N'Zonzi, it's not considering how depleted the squad could be. There's only so many players you can sell in one go and keep a premier league team, no matter how many quality replacements you can bring in. Players are people too. City proved that in the first season they were spending money. You can spend as much as you like but you need time as well for the players to gel. Not that we'll be spending quite that much!
LeChuck Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 No point in rushing as long as we get the best end product. Who said anything about rushing? We've had weeks to find players, and have more weeks before the season starts. Buying just before the close of the window would be rushing, surely? The chance of a player who fits the bill becoming available at the end of August who was unavailable at the start of August is pretty damn slim, to say the least.
chris Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 8th and a cup win has been promised Pretty sure they said they want to invest to achieve at least 8th and a cup which this town deserves. I don't think they promised. At least they don't promised to sell star players and reinvest 40% like we are use to.
Athlete Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Selling Nzonzi is madness....... Sacking Big sam was madness...... Buying the likes of Anderson and warner all madness Quality post ha ha except kean isnt king more like the butler Welcome to planet Venkys where Kean is King!

The better teams squad players, who would be brilliant for us, will be shifted out at a lower price towards the end, as clubs try to get rid of wages etc. Spurs: Krankjar, Jenas, Bassong, Bentley, Defoe, Crouch, Dos Santos, Chelsea: Benayoun, Borini, Zhirkov, City: Bellamy, Bridge, Onuoha, Jo, SWP, United: Park, Evans, Gibson, Anderson, Macheda, Arsenal: Diaby, Vela, All players that would be an improvement on what we have got, and by the end of summer, some of them will still be at their current clubs and available for a reasonable price.
LeChuck Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 The problem with the vast majority of those players is wages, not transfer fees. They're not going to accept lower pay no matter what time of year it is.
texasrover Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 on a side note, i feel like i get up every morning to news of a different player that sunderland have signed. I'm not saying we should be going as nuts as they are, but at least they're being proactive about transfers. Another week has come and gone.
rover23 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 The problem with the vast majority of those players is wages, not transfer fees. They're not going to accept lower pay no matter what time of year it is. Spurs are very frugal with their money. Levy refuses to pay high wages.. most of those guys are on £40k a week.
