i`ve said all along we should move for carlton cole. he`s a proven premier league goalscorer at hopefully a fair price, fee and wages wise.

The problem is Rovers are shopping in the basement level due to lack of funds.

I hope other clubs believe what you believe and hopefyully they will, because I don't.

Always thought it was a mistake to saywe had a very very handsome kitty, pushes prices up.

Everyone here (or almost everyone) has mentioned that the priority is or should be a goal scorer/ striker or something like that.

So, please, can you all make a suggestion of 2 or 3 players and what you think their price and wages would be?

And if you think they would come to Rovers?

It seems all of us think it is easy to find and buy this proven goal scorer, with experience (in the PL, if possible)...

i`d estimate west ham would accept around 8m+ for carlton cole and his wages would be around £50,000-£60,000 a week. if we can`t afford that for a first choice striker then we are fecked imo.

venky`s have to pull their finger out because so far imo they have done nothing positive for our club since day 1. they have only weakened us as a club overall with their decisions.

it`s past time they convinced us of their intentions for rovers.

Would not 50 to 60,000 a week make him the highest earner at Rovers? Rovers wage bill is already too high.

I think Cole is probably worth a gamble - interesting when looking at Cole’s stats is how many goals in the Premier League and Cup competitions though (key stats are surely are the PL goals).

That's a fair point. League goals only:

2010–11 .... 28 ...... 5

2009–10 .... 30 .... 10

2008–09 .... 27 .... 10

Still very good before last season. You could make a decent list of mitigating circumstances for last season too - Avram Grant's tactics, signing Demba Ba in January (who then became the focal point), playing for the worst team in the division.

I'd rather we paid £6 million for Carlton Cole than someone like N'Doye.

Assuming we believe Venky's when the said the whole of the Phil Jones money would be available - £16m is exactly a "lack of funds" , however because imo we need 4 or even 5 players to go straight into the first 11 , that budget has to be stretched out to cover it

that`s the going rate wages wise(and imo that`s low!) if you want a top striker. if we can`t pay that then we won`t get a proven player of the standard required. we`ll be back gambling like we did with kalinic once again.

I reckon it will be next week before we sign anybody with Kean in Austria with the players.

and all of them players represent a huge gamble imo.

i agree. but i think cole would go for more like 8-10m.

Why? The Chief Exec....hmm erm Kentaro will be doing all the work with the players, although I'm not sure how negotiating wages works out for them. Kean is hardly going to wow them with a action packed tour of Brockhall.

the need for a proven striker is greater than anything else imo.

yeh dont rate him highly but is there anything better out there for 6 million or do you think 8.5 mill for a player from fc Copenhagen that no1 has heard of is the way to go

People have heard of him. He is playing for the Danish champions in the champions league... Do you mean that he does not play in England and the only football I watch is the epl?

He would be a risk like cisse and kalanic . Since we cannot afford or attract a proven goal machine we are going to have to take a risk..

Like snipes says "always bet on black"

but would you really blow your budget on 1 or 2 strikers when the midfield is as poor's as ours

Sunderland have signed O'Shea who is 30 and Brown who is 31 on 4 year deals. I'm guessing fee's and wages would be very high for two older players who in all honesty have never really impressed me.

Pleased we steered clear of those two. Would have liked us to go for Vaughan or Gardner though, saying that they both got relegated last year so how good are they?

Understand what you are saying but bearing in mind that we had a very narrow escape, does that make Jones, Samba, Hoilett, Olsson etc less capable or desirable and, similarly, it does seem that we are after Monaco's 'lynchpin' who didn't manage to save them from the dreaded drop.

As regards the likes of O'Shea and Brown, spot on.

yeah but managers always meets the player for talks before the transfer is done.

Not always. It's common practice for managers to meet players and see what they think of them but especially in europe players are signed above the manager. You wouldn't want to miss out on a player because the manager is away and more than likely the manager has already said who they want, equally the player could meet up with the team in Austria to gage opinion if need be.

According to people on twitter liverpool thinking of bidding 6million for Hoilet. Anything less than 10million and i would just let him run his contract down.

Not in the least surprised and frightens me to death.

As mentioned earlier today, we have done absolutely nothing, so far, that is going to influence our young talent, or other talent, that Ewood is the place to be.

Once clubs sense that we are 'on the run', we are going to struggle enormously to hold on to the likes of Samba, Hoilett, Olsson & Robbo etc.

Contracted or not, let's not kid ourselves, once a player wants to go, the game's up.

The better teams squad players, who would be brilliant for us, will be shifted out at a lower price towards the end, as clubs try to get rid of wages etc.

Spurs: Krankjar, Jenas, Bassong, Bentley, Defoe, Crouch, Dos Santos,

Chelsea: Benayoun, Borini, Zhirkov,

City: Bellamy, Bridge, Onuoha, Jo, SWP,

United: Park, Evans, Gibson, Anderson, Macheda,

Arsenal: Diaby, Vela,

All players that would be an improvement on what we have got, and by the end of summer, some of them will still be at their current clubs and available for a reasonable price.

Yes. So true. Someone mentioned wages but the transfer fee would be less. So it should be ok

I accept your point that the new player coould fly to Austria to meet Kean.

I just wish we could make a couple of good signings in the week or so. We should try to make all of our signings before we go to India but I don't think we will.

It seems to me that the deadline for these owners to prove themselves keeps getting put further and further back. First it was the end of the January window, then the end of the season, then it was the summer, now it's the end of August and come the 31st August it will be lets wait until Christmas.

Precisely, Pb, precisely. Mind you, I don't know what's going to happen on Judgment Day, a bright light in the night sky above Ewood? Or above Pune?
