  1. 1. Are you happy with the new sponsors

    • Delighted!
    • I'd have prefered a commercial sponsor, but this is a great alternative
    • Simply don't care
    • Waste a valuable income
    • No objection to charity, do object to the Princes Trust
    • Other (Please Explain)

Were we not sponsored by CIS at the time of Euro 96? I don't remember them making much beer but you seem to know better.

During the 1980s and 1990s, McEwan's sponsored six football clubs and one rugby league club:

Carlisle United – 1982 to 1988 (as 'McEwan's Younger')[27]

Darlington – 1984 to 1987[28]

Rangers – 1987 to 1999[29]

Notts County – 1991 to 1994 (Away games only)[30]

Newcastle United – 1991 to 1995 (Away games only)[31]

Blackburn Rovers – 1991 to 1996[32]

St Helens RLFC – 1995 to 1999

So while Euro 96 our sponsor was McEwan's since we all know Rovers never have their shirt ready in good time. CIS was the sponsor for the 96-97 season and I think longer.

I seem to remember everything being good and ready and launched in time that season ;-0

No seriously fair play i could have sworn it was a season earlier, however ur only basing your stance on our tardiness with the new shirt deals.!!

In fact i hadn't bothered previously but a little google turned up this little snippet:

Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) has signed a four-year deal worth several million with the club to run from June 1, 1996. As a result, CIS's logo will appear on all the players' shirts.

As such I think that confirms at the time of Euro 96 we were not sponsored by a beer company

Euro 96 Fixtures

Some how I doubt the shirt was on sale with a new sponsor and I guess new shirt design in 7 days

As has been mentioned no just by me but Rovers are nearly always late with their deals. I even remember being at a first home game of the season and it was the first day you could by that seasons shirt it was.

The fact is we were not sponsored by McEwans during Euro 96, we were sponsored by CIS. Someone asked what happened last time we were sponsored by a beer company, you gave the glib reply of Euro 96. That was incorrect, whether or not you could buy shirts is neither here nor there.
