Shetland was a favourite - I like the dark, broody stuff. The last series was slow and rather boring though, probably gone on too long. Some of the accents were undecipherable too, you have to really concentrate to make out what they are saying

Line of Duty is very good with all its unexpected twists and turns but it's so far fetched - virtually every copper is bent! Cressida Dick hates it because it shows the police in a bad light and is unrealistic. She does have a point

Bodyguard is another that promised alot but then got silly. I stopped watching after the 2nd episode.

I agree about " Bodyguard ", I lost interest in that one as well.

The most realistic police drama ever was  GF Newman's series " Law And Order ". That showed how real police corruption worked in the Met back in the day. Planting evidence, taking bribes, watching confiscated porn films in the canteen ! The Met said they'd never worked with Newman again after it was screened and the BBC placed an embargo on showing the series again that lasted for more than 30 years.

Lots of the actors were unknowns at the time but later became famous in " Eastenders " etc.

Don't remember that to be honest but I enjoy the Law and Order UK series, made about 10 years ago with Bradley Walsh. Very slick and watchable and I even watch the repeats.

I watched the 1968  " Water Splash " Rugby League Cup Final on BBC 2 this afternoon. Drama and tragedy all in a couple of minutes. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by it.

Just watched it, great programme. I’d seen that last kick before but hadn’t realised that the weather conditions had been so bad. Don Fox’s face, when being interviewed by David Coleman after the game, said it all. Poor fellow, wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

You won't remember it because the powers that be made sure it wasn't shown again until a couple of years ago. It showed how the police " fitted up " a bit of a bad lad for an armed robbery. Lifting his finger prints off a tea cup with selotape and then putting them on the stock of a sawn off shotgun that had been used in the crime. First time I'd seen that done. Blackmailing another criminal to give false evidence against the lad. Getting another criminal to claim the reward for solving a crime then taking half the reward.for themselves.  You name it, the MET were doing it.

My lot played away at Wakefield in a previous round that year. Wakefield had had to play on the Tuesday and the Thursday because of a fixture back log. We played them on the following Saturday. They offered us money to move the game back a few days but our players said " No Way ". We were losing 10- 0 but ended up drawing 10-10 as Wakey ran out of steam in the second half. We had a drop goal go over right at the death but the ref ruled it out !

They were fully rested for the replay and absolutely marmalised us. Still one of the best teams I've ever seen. Their last try started on their line on the right wing, went through every pair of hands until the left winger scored with a supporting player on either side of him. Awesome team.

One of our players had got married on the Saturday morning and had to leave his new wife to go and play in the afternoon. Then after the draw he had to cancel his honeymoon.

1. It was a response to gumboots, don't be so arrogant.

2. Boring in the sense that it drags like hell. Perhaps it's more interesting if you watch week-to-week as it was originally shown.

For reference my favourite show in absolute years is Line of Duty, which is all about the minutiae of police procedure.

Fancy that, different people think different things. Who'd have thought?

I know one thing we both like and that's your avatar. ?

Incase anyone is wondering what Gumboots and Mike E are responding to it's one of my posts that has been removed. Again. Probably by K-Hod.

Also Breaking Bad is not boring. If that's boring then what the hell is interesting? Does there have to be plane crashes, bombs and blowing up rooms with exploding crystals every 2 minutes to be interesting?

I hid it. You posted in a TV thread a reference to dying in hospital whilst singing god save the queen. It isn’t needed and if you do it again I’ll ban you for it.

Facebook rumours abound that there will be a 3rd series of Life on Mars. Not sure of the veracity of the rumours, or whether it is a good idea. I loved it, but the first series of Ashes to Ashes put me off that, though I hear it picks up in the 2nd and 3rd series.

I hope this isn’t true. Now we know the plot it would massively take something away from any new series I feel.

I'm a royalist in that I'd rather have the Queen than an elected President, but I didnt watch the Queen last night either. Pointless exercise just as the Christmas speech is. Havent watched that for many a year.

I'm a staunch Royalist and truly adore our Queen.

The Family below Her have tried my patience for years.

Meghan and the Markles take it to a new level .... as in the depths.

Not at all. As soon as people tell me I MUST  watch something, I lose all desire to do so. I find few things live up to other peoples hype. It's the same with books that I MUST  read, places I must visit etc. I rarely recommend things to others, beyond saying I enjoyed them. Not everyone likes the same things and that's good.

I watched Season 1 of Breaking Bad, and sort of agree. The hype surrounding it annoyed me before I even gave it a chance. "OH MY GOD, YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED BREAKING BAD???!!!". I mean, I wouldn't say it was boring, but it was sort of average... Some twists and turns, but couldn't help but feel that it was hyped up because of some loserly bloke becoming a drug-lord. Oh, and DRUUUUUGS! ? Just doesn't really float my boat.

I bet we've all had that sort of thing, though... I only saw the original Bladerunner about four years ago, shortly after a similar "OH MY GOD, IT'S LEGENDARY, YOU'RE NOT COOL UNTIL YOU'VE WATCHED IT!!!" Well, I watched it, and while I admit that the over-hype and iMDB high ratings sort of annoyed me into being forced to like it, I thought it was quite depressing and a bit odd. I'm half-expecting somebody on here to react to that statement. ?

I'm a similar sort of person. I can't stand Lady Contrived.......sorry Lady Gaga, as everything was a marketing ploy to distract from the fact she blatantly ripped off Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. Beyonce is another one. She can sing, but a load of her songs are really over produced tripe. To get back onto TV, I don't generally watch dramas so all these shows pass me by and I don't care if I'm out the loop.

Ok. I'm gonna say it & wait for the fall out!

I couldn't stand Game of Thrones!

There, I've said it. And yes I did try it. Watched 4 or 5 episodes from the first series & thought "nope, don't get all the hype. I'm not wasting any more of my life on this"

I definitely thought it was over rated, but I stuck with it until the end.

Beyoncé is next to royalty over here. I don't get it either. Her songs aren't very good. However, I'm a male in my 40's, hardly her target market.

As to TV Breaking Bad was good. Game of Thrones was better although it stunk up the joint at the end. For me neither can hold a candle to the Sopranos.

I do like Line of Duty too.

There's one on Amazon called Bosch. I don't know if it's available in the UK but it's a good detective series based in LA.

Game of Thrones was getting close to toppling The Sopranos as my personal GOAT... then the final season happened.

Sopranos for me is unbeatable, glad I’m not the only one that’s a big fan!
